Starting to think that whole generation of players were nothing but a bunch of rats LOL. JM, William, Patricio, Adrien

Anyways, this imminent signing of Goncalo Esteves gets me really excited with our scouting recently and should not be looked over. He's legit one of the best of his generation.

We've signed some good young talent recently for free so far:

Marsa (central defender, Barça, 19 yr old)
Esteves (RB, Porto, 17 yr old)
Catena (CB, Roma, 17 yr old)
Fatawu (winger, Steadfast FC, 17 yr old)
Vando Felix (winger, Leixoes, 18 yr old)

All have a lot of potential

Bit extreme to call William and Patricio rats because they had a reasonable reaction to being assaulted while trying to do their jobs… would you stay at your job if that happened to you?

At least we got transfer fees from them.

Podence and Leao are my two most disliked of the bunch....

During his youth career, he spent 2 years at Porto and 8 with us. In total he's spent 15 years in Sporting. He's been here since he was 11 years old. Sporting made João Mario.

People want to talk about how bad he was for us this year, that's fine. But don't forget his initial run with us before he transferred to Inter. His contributions were huge for our team. He was fantastic in 2016. The year we should have ended the drought.

You didn't answer the question though - would you stay at your job if people invaded the office and assaulted you?

Care to share what changed your opinion?

It honestly really really irks me that people can't seem to sympathize with them at all. Patricio was literally in tears man, he gave everything to this club and the fans hate him. They hate him because they physically and verbally assaulted him and he left. It's surreal to me. Anyone in his shoes would have done the same. The man is still a club legend in my eyes.

I can see JM’s reasons for going to Benfica on a human level, eg he’s had his most successful time as a player in Portugal and if we can’t afford him that leaves his options quite limited. His family may love being in Lisbon too

But that doesn’t make me any less disappointed and annoyed after the year he’s had back with us and been a big part in our success

Perhaps calling them ALL rats was a bit strong, but for me it's all about the club. The club comes 1st above anything. I hear these players everyday post and say how it's an honor to wear the shirt and defend the club, and I just wish they had a bit more respect for the club that brought them in when they were 10 or 11 and gave their family stability, instead of break the contract and put the club in a dire situation. We got players and even a coach now that are Benfiquistas, and I don't even care because they're professionals and have defended the club. But I don't wanna make it a debate, especially since we won a title and more than ever we need to support the club.

But I can answer your question with another question: would you return to the same office a month later if the company offered you twice or maybe 3x the salary? Because that's what some of them did and to me, that nullifies any legitimacy to break their contract. Just my interpretation of things.

Health and safety, among many other things like family etc, come before the club for me. Respect goes both ways too, how can you expect players to respect the club when everyone from the fans to the club president are publicly humiliating them at every opportunity? These are human beings. The club put them in a dire situation, why is it not fair that the players do the same thing?

Patricio has never shown anything but respect to the club, even after he rescinded, even after ‘sportinguistas’ hurl insults at him at every opportunity. He has remained calm, cool headed and has been incredibly respectful to a club and fans that quite honestly don’t deserve his respect.

there a higher chance that I would return for sure, of course. I would think I was due much more money if I was attacked on the job, wouldn’t you?

it’s honestly so black and white for me. These are human beings who were attacked on the job by their customers. I don’t know how anyone can fault them for leaving.

bas dost was quite literally whacked on the head by a steel pipe and he’s a rat for leaving? He takes more money to come back, remember - he was literally whacked on the head by a steel pipe, and now there was no legitimacy for breaking the contract??

Back to the point of this thread, Rumour is that Ruben Vinagre is on his way, although some say its a loan + option to buy, others are saying its an actual transfer for 10M euros for a percentage of his rights. But it seems almost certain he will be a Sporting CP player.

Also A Bola has an interesting rumour. Al Mustrati (yay another Braga player) is on our agenda as a potential replacement for Palhinha whose interest has gone up after the Euro. He has been linked to Benfica for a while, but Braga were asking for something like 20 million for him...

A lot of the reports in England are suggesting that it’s an actual transfer for Vinagre rather than a loan to buy

So if Ronaldo went back to Portugal and decided to play for Benfica, you wouldn't be hurt by that? Because technically he grew up a Benfiquesta.

Are we comparing Joao Mario to arguably the greatest player of all time? Has Ronaldo already played for Porto?

Maybe Joao Mario won't go to Benfica now... their president was just arrested

Dude, no one remembers a 9 year old João Mario playing for Porto lol. You're saying it won't hurt as much because he started his youth career at Porto. Ronaldo started his at Nacional. So you won't be hurt about João Mario but would be for Ronaldo? Lol

Reading reports Inter has informed Sporting that Benfica has made a 7.5 mil offer as we have first right of refusal...and Sporting are going to match the bid? This story gets crazier every day :ROFLMAO:

What? Is Nacional a direct rival to Sporting? To me, the fact that he is from Porto, played for Porto, grew up a Porto fan makes it less impactful. Ronaldo is from Madeira, played for Nacional and I would be very surprised if he is a fan of any club at all. I genuinely don't see how these situations are comparable at all. It's like how no one cared when Maniche played for Sporting. Or when JP played for Sporting. You're comparing a journeyman to the greatest ever, its a dumb comparison man.

To be clear - I don't care at all. If you want to be hurt by JM playing for Benfica, go for it. I don't care. And that's fine.

So we are paying 10 mil for 50% of R.Vingre's rights? How does this deal make sense for the team? I have not seen much of him but he can't be a 20 mil player?

Man if Mendes stays one for year our RB and LB spots are stacked lol

Lol, and I'm trying to say it should be less impactful for Ronaldo as well, considering he's not from Lisbon, didn't start with Sporting and grew up a benfiquesta. But whatever, we can agree to disagree. No one cared about Maniche signing with SCP because he played for like 6 teams after he left Porto then came to us. Lol

I'm not necessarily hurt but he's a Judas in my opinion.
