Jim Curtin also praised midfielder Leon Flach in my conversation with him: “Leon has been in talks with Gregg [Berhalter] and his staff to represent the #USMNT in the Gold Cup this summer.” #DOOP— Larry Henry Jr (@lhenry019) May 28, 2021
Curtin just said that "you could see a debut for one of the young guys, I'll leave it at that" in a sideline interview. Paxten Aaronson debut incoming! He's the only one on the bench who hasn't debuted yet.
He did, and looked good! Obviously a kid still, but very much another Aaronson is more than just name. Very much looking forward to his development.
What Seattle has done so far this season without Morris and only limited minutes from Lodeiro has been impressive.
Yeah, Lagerway’s resume with RSL and Seattle is perhaps the best for an executive in MLS history. Arena can build a 1st team as well as anyone, but Lagerway prioritized academies also.
Some Union Youth updates the past week+: Looks like U2 had a friendly with DC where many HGs played and scored: ✅ High press✅ Intercepted pass✅ Slotted far postHomegrown Cole Turner with tonight’s @PhilaUnionII game winner vs @dcunited! pic.twitter.com/5ixjpOKWSH— Philadelphia Union (@PhilaUnion) June 5, 2021 Fellow grad Caden Stafford draws the PK and McGlynn made it 1-1 in the 70th. https://t.co/LMcpghliWY— Philadelphia Union II (@PhilaUnionII) June 5, 2021 Miscic on USL team of the week after scoring again: Selmir Miscic on the Team of the Week https://t.co/IAmmnTicEX— Matt Ralph (@MattRalph_) June 7, 2021 I believe Miscic is still only 18 but with all the other HGs around his age that are still with the Union he may not be in the long term plans. But seems like they will be able to flip him for value if he keeps this up. For Stafford, I always liked what I saw from him in U2 but not sure if it's enough for a HG contract.
More stats: Leon Flach is off to an extraordinary start: 3rd in tackles (34)3rd in tackles in which team won possession (23)2nd in on-ball pressures (223)1st in press success rate (86 %)- number of times squad gained possession within 5 sec. of pressure. #DOOP https://t.co/4FlzBAWp7E— Joe Tansey (@JTansey90) June 10, 2021

The only debate someone from Dallas can have about this is that they have had more successful homegrowns which is solely because they invested in their academy earlier. Outside of that Philly is better in every way: more elite prospects, better scouting/recruiting, better coaching, better residency, and better schooling
One ranking doesn’t stop 15 years of talent development, buying useless 30 year olds and overpaying them while playing them over your homegrowns does
For real, if Dallas hit on like one-third of their foreign signings, they'd have won a chsmpionship in the last decade. Philly is unique in the league at being great at developing domestic players and finding value abroad. Flach merges the two, since he is USMNT eligible.
I think it’s both. Dallas is having trouble integrating players, but the Union have better players within their academy right now. I don’t yet think Union has yet produced better pros.
The 20/21 Cavan Sullivan highlight film- grab some popcorn. I guess the only question is when will this kid make a first team appearance- 15, 14 ?? He's still only 11.
He was the only 2025 u17 eligible player (2008’s and younger) to be called into the regional YNT camps. When asking Philly people if he was deserving all of them were unanimous in saying the call up was merited. Cavan has to have the work ethic and professionalism but the talent is no doubt there
nothing is better for the future than kids of didnt quite make it pros turned coaches matriculating through the system.
Not better than Weston but he is one of the ones that never played for Dallas. I'd put Aaronson as the best player to come out of Philly or Dallas excluding Weston.
It's probably pretty close after Weston. Cannon came out of Dallas. Is Aaronson better than him? I can see both sides of the equation.
