Was it really a good idea to play a QF match in Baku?? Its mid 30's there right now, and the match is being played at 6pm their time: https://www.google.com/search?q=bak...AEAoAEBqgEHZ3dzLXdperABCrgBAg&sclient=gws-wiz
Oranje has not beaten Portugal in Euro or WC. Maybe it’s time to exorcise the demon...or go home and get a new coach
I was thinking this too. Its about time we send these guys packing. They are on paper not a better team than we are Its time to rectify that record
Netherlands have Group C well in hand...all you have to do is beat North Macedonia and that is 9 points out of 9...winning all 3 Group games because it could happen. I definitely say Netherlands have to be considered a dark horse heading into Round of 16.
He's likely playing out is contract with Barca this season. He's injured so often that I wonder if any team would take a risk of paying big €s for him.
Portugal have a terrible record against France, they only beat them once in the last 37 years (in a total of 9 matches): https://www.flashscore.com/match/KEMJOu8H/#h2h/overall
Denmark came through and trashed a very slow Russia team to take 2nd place. They play Wales in Amsterdam now.
With 3A confirmed (Switzerland) and 3F nearly confirmed (unless France hammer Portugal by three goals)... I believe, all plausible combinations lead to Oranje vs. Portugal in R16. Fireworks!!!
If France beat Portugal, Portugal stay on three points. If there is a winner in the Scotland/Croatia match, the winner ends up on 4 which would be enough to qualify as a 3rd place team. If Poland can defeat Sweden they can end up on 4 points also. I think it's still complicated.
The most likely scenario is Netherlands 3F, unless Portugal loses by 3 or Slovakia beat Spain and Sweden not to lose to Poland. The bottom bracket is relatively easy compare to the top half.
Portugal vs Netherlands gives me Nuremberg 2006 flashbacks of Germany 2006...where there were so many yellow and red cards
Belgium's choices are 3rd place teams from A, D, E, or F Why wouldn't they draw Portugal? Edit: I guess I just don't understand how the posted matrix of results works.
Yesterday at 8:20 PM This shows it's not certain at all that we meet Portugal. If they lose against France with more than 1-0, they stay on 3 points, which means that they need a Spain loss, as a draw would mean Spain also has 3 points, but zero goal difference. However if either Scotland or Croatia wins, Portugal and Spain are out with 3 points as then one of those has 4 points and progresses. In that case we would face either Scotland or Croatia.
In other words we need France to do what they seem not to be doing so far, score a lot of goals!!!! If Portugal and Germany both win, France then end up in 3rd place!
They already decide ahead which combination based on which 4 teams qualified. Once you know which 4 3rd teams qualified then look at the below table. Switzerland is qualified (4 pts) as they are ahead of Ukraine and Finland (3 points each). Hence only below combinations are left.
Thanks this is helpful. I don't think Finland will make the cut because of the -2 GD and only 3 points. This mean we draw the third place team from either Group D or F. Assuming a Spain win, it could be the winner of Croatia/Scotland. Group F is crazy right now as it could be any of the four teams depending on the final match day. I hope we get lucky.
