Johnny subbed out to start the 2nd half with Internacional down 1-0

For a deeper central midfielder, he really doesn't see the ball a lot.

He had the first chance of the game and put his shot wide. There should be video of it somewhere.

Johnny certainly has some skill. But as a deeper/central midfielder, he plays so much differently than how Tyler Adams, Weston McKennie, or even Kellyn Acosta plays. Adams, for example, seems to generate touches 80-105 times per 90 minutes.

For Internacional, Johnny is much lower.

    America MG - June 28
    Minutes: 45
    Touches: 21

    Chapecoense - June 25
    Minutes: 34
    Touches: 19

    Atletico MG - June 17
    Minutes: 67
    Touches: 48

    Bahia - June 14
    Minutes: 90
    Touches: 26

    Fortaleza - June 6
    Minutes: 17
    Touches: 10

Yes, part of that is due to the formation Internacional plays but I am not sure Johnny is going to thrive for the USMNT unless the team changes its formation. He doesn't seem to cover the ground the other midfielders do. Is he really going to thrive in a national team role where he needs to get on the ball over 2x the amount than he does for his club?

I could be very wrong. I've only watched a few of Johnny's games at the club level. He could be good, but he's quite a bit different than the other USMNT midfielders. Normally it's fine to have different players but I am not yet sure if he is going to fit into Berhalter's system, while also being a good fit for other types of teams.

My exact feeling when watching the several Internacional games that I have this season. Makes a couple nice long range passes here and there, but really isn't involved in making the midfield "tick" at all for his club.

Johnny’s turnover starts the counter that leads to the stoppage winner for Palmeiras. Obviously a lot of other players on Internacional screwed up too. Bad loss and Internacional is playing like crap these days

Side note….. Jonny’s former manager from March to June of this year and who didn’t seem to fancy his play, Miguel Angel Ramirez, is rumored to be Charlotte FC’s inaugural manager. Safe to say Jonny won’t be landing in Charlotte next season. ;)

A real man doesn't screw his formers. Go Johny Go! Screw your current managers whoever they are, exactly like you did Kreis.
