Yeah, the stadium had a soft opening with the USWNT match and traffic and parking went about as well as predicted by Crew fans. And yet here we are an hour after game ended and they say they have no more buses. Hundreds of people standing here waiting for @Pavemint rides. pic.twitter.com/GN4Ixcq2th— 𝙼𝚊𝚝𝚝 𝙿𝚘𝚠𝚎𝚕𝚕 (@mattpowelltx) June 17, 2021
Reportedly $70/ticket for all away tickets and they have to be bought in blocks of 25(?) for supporters groups arranging groups of fans. For comparison the best ticket at a Rapids game (excluding suites to concourse tables that include food) is $51 and the away section is $25 before group discount for SG's travelling en masse. Now I expect the Rapids to be on the lower end of the league, but 3x as much for Austin is ridiculous. Not to mention that the Rapids FO went out of their way to make sure we could host a couple hundred Austin fans despite COVID difficulties for our home opener this year but apparently the Austin FO wasn't willing to work with C38 when we contacted them about tickets for a small group who was panning to travel to the game.
Union Will Play Wrexham AFC On July 29th https://wmmr.com/2021/06/18/wrexham-to-philadelphia/ This should be a fun friendly.
Having seen a National League game, I don't know what the Union are getting out of this. Despite the recent investment by Ryan Reynolds, I don't think Wrexham is a name that's going to sell tickets and they aren't going to challenge the Union on the field in any way. Though I am having fun with Wrexham going to Chester to play a game, but not that Chester. (Wrexham has a cross-border derby with Chester FC who are just a few miles up the road from them but on the other side of the Welsh/English border. Well, the club offices are in England, the pitch is in Wales as the border runs through the stadium.)
Tickets will reportedly be free. Fans are asked to bring food to be donated to Philabundance. Also Rob McElhenney is an owner of Wrexham, and is a Philly native.
It'll likely mostly be subs and academy kids I'd think. The Union have a 3 game week starting that weekend (8/1, 8/4, 8/8) so I doubt that starters are going to be thrown into a 4th match. With them not running a USL club this year they still run U2 and have been scheduling them with friendlies.
Now official: Mexico will have to play its first two home World Cup qualifiers in an empty stadium as punishment for homophobic chants by its fans. Already an investigation is underway into additional recent instances, which means stiffer penalties could be on the way. pic.twitter.com/JaG633YNMS— Subscribe to GrantWahl.com (@GrantWahl) June 18, 2021
The dyke appears to be significantly west of the current border, at least in northeast Wales. Wrexham is east of the dyke but fully in Wales.
Jamaica and Canada looks like they lucked out...don't think it affects Mexico much seeing as they were probably heavily favored in both.
Still think the harsher penalty is no more friendlies for them in the US. They make more money on their games here than in Mexico, hence the plethora of "home" dates in the States. Also, punishment for the chant is one thing and a good thing. Now how about the persistent missiles/ projectiles from the crowd?
