1402705539008716805 is not a valid tweet id It sounds like the Bundesliga it will be. Because he gets to choose as a free agent, so long as a BL club would want him as a starter. Which you gotta think they would at this point. He'd be a huge upgrade over Timo Horn at Koln. He's had a low 60's save% the last 2 seasons. Horvath's is over 80% in European inter-league comp. Looking at somewhat of a bigger club, Frankfurt's keeper Kevin Trapp has posted a mid 60's save %. I think he'd be an upgrade, but question is would he get a chance. The safe bet would be to go to a club like Koln, then build his rep.
Which is good, because Bundesliga keepers are kind of shit statistically. Post-shot xG doesn't care for them. For comparison, of the 20 Premier League goalkeepers who started at least half of their club's league matches this season, 14 outperformed PSxG. Of the 18 in the Bundesliga, only 5 outperformed PSxG. The worst offenders in the Bundesliga on a per 90 basis among non-relegated teams were Burki (replaced by a now-injured Hitz at Dortmund, both to be replaced by Kobel), Sommer (Gladbach), Horn (Koln), Gulacsi (Leipzig), and Trapp (Frankfurt). It's hard to say if Horvath would be an upgrade on any of them, because we have so little actual gametime to analyze, but it'd be cool as hell if he got a shot. Leipzig, especially, would be awesome.
Funny because that is the club that immediately came to mind when I read his quotes in that tweet. Stuttgart have a 32 year old career backup that’s been there for 4-5 years and has never played above Hoffenhein II and Furth II levels. They also have another backup, a 26 year old, who has around 30 games in BLII with Nurnberg a few seasons ago. One would think they are in the market for a GK. If I were Hortvath and Matarazzo...... I’d have my people call your people. It wouldn’t surprise me to see Jiri Pavlenka leave Bremen after being relegated. He has previously been linked to a few EPL and Bundesliga sides in the past year. If he does, I wouldn’t mind seeing Ethan go there. They will probably be candidates for promotion and will retool if they can by selling a few assets.
Premier League aint going for him anyways so it is easy to reject it. That said I look forward to seeing where he lands. I've always been high on him, and he seems like a good guy.
Trapp has a solid reputation among Gk’s in the BL and has battled Leno for that #3 spot for Germany for years. It usually one or the other who’s been that #3 in major tournaments. Both were name to Germay’s roster for the Euros with Ter Steigen out injured. I don’t see Horvath uprooting Trapp at Frankfurt.
It would be fairly shocking to see Horvath join FC Cologne and replace Timo Horn who has been at the club since 2002 and played over 300+ games for the club and is only 28.
There's a lot of big clubs in the 2. Bundesliga this season. It's not beyond Ethan's pedigree to play in the 2. Bundesliga. I'd be happy to see him in either the Bundesliga or the 2. Bundesliga at a place he has a realistic chance of claiming the No.1.
I'd hate to see him drop down a division. He might thrive in that division but it could also be several years stuck there when he's in his peak years now.
If it comes to dropping a division or being a clear back-up, he just needs to get on the field But I think he could hold out for a top division contract and if he at least has a realistic chance of being able to compete for the spot he should give it a go. With everyone broke this year being free should help him land something.
As long as he's the designated starter, better to go to a BL1 relegation struggler than a fallen giant challenging for promotion, especially a fallen giant that's chasing promotion for the umpteenth season in a row (HSV says hello). Those giants have fallen for a reason and the atmosphere in the locker room can be pretty toxic. There's also the fact that relegation strugglers don't have the greatest defences, which means plenty of opportunities to showcase your shot-stopping abilities.
I wonder if his personality might hurt him a little bit with becoming a starter at club level since he seems so quiet. He performs great when given a chance, but managers might overlook him or worry he can't command a backline.
So long as he shows up when it matters, they may cut him some slack. He inspires confidence with a subdued attitude unlike Howard who was always shouting and cursing at his backline.
honestly oustide of off the rails clubs like real madrid im not sure personalities matter all that much
It's beyond his pedigree. At young ages, he's shined in European inter-league play that's far above that level. Did the same in Belgium when he's gotten the opportunity. Just was a victim of circumstance. Plus he probably should be the US' #1. The US' top keeper shouldn't be playing in a bum 2nd division. I think it's organizational malpractice if many top 5 league clubs don't offer a starting job. Suck at scouting and can't a stat sheet.
They probably wouldn't give him the chance, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't. The BL's keepers are a weak crop in part because they've narrowed their scouting network to the Germanic countries pretty much. Got too high on themselves after Oliver Kahn and Manuel Neuer were so impressive. Then it practically became a prerequisite you were just Germanic. The US' #1 can beat out Germany's #4. We shouldn't have an inferiority complex about that too. I mean give me Friedel & Howard over Kevin Trapp every day.
A keeper's job is to organize his defense, particularly during set pieces. So personality does matter for the job, he has to make the other guys listen to his instructions (and know what he needs from them).
MLS is above BL2 from GK point of view. Much better forwards and, probably, weaker defense. And higher salaries as well.
Sounds pretty Nuts but never hurts to have some supporters mentioning your name https://www.spurs-web.com/spurs-news/opinion-why-spurs-should-sign-ethan-horvath-this-summer/ Sure hope his agent is calling every club in the Bundesliga right now.
