Copa America 2020 (in 2021) not in Colombia & Argentina, but maybe Brasil? (Pre-thread)

I want the kids but we are behind a lot of countries in terms of managers and players working together to fulfill ideas, so having games that aren't qualifiers to get our core squad on the same page as the manager is probably more important for us then most. If we didn't have a manager with one game and barely any time to test guys with his tactics I'd think different, but since we are where we are I think we should be looking at 2/3 games with core at least.

    Yeah

Copa is a perfect opportunity for Rueda to develop his process

I hear that. Even if you keep the core squad with the unit I think you should use the extra slots to bring in the kids and use them to implement some load management for the veterans.

The Atalanta and Porto guys played a lot of minutes between European and cup games and you want them to get their legs back and rest mentally too for next season (that's hoping none of them get sold either so they don't have that disruption). Mina is so often injured you want to treat him the same way...

Yeah I agree, bring in the young kids to train and work with the group, and don't over use any of the core group. Rotating is good too to get different guys in to get time playing under Rueda in game. Generally having time in training with these guys is probably more important then games at these points, time to talk and go over stuff can be done without just playing the same guys every game.

Campaz being there is really good, always need that dynamic option to stretch games off the bench and with Diaz looking like a starter its a good card to be able to play.

For those of you who think the tournament should be cancelled...
...I just heard that CONMEBOL would lose about $125 million dollars if the tournament would not be played due to official sponsors and television network voided contracts.

After all the money lost the last fiscal year due to Covid cancelling the tournament is just not an option.

The list of 28 players does not have to be submitted until June 10th.

I heard Brazilian coach will quit if this cup happens haha. Too bad we already have Rueda :)

    In all seriousness.

I want this cup. Call James, Alzate and maybe Fuentes/Fabra or another LB.

I don’t see Rueda dumping any of the guys already called unless they have covid.

So any idea of Mina or Sanchez being sent back isn’t happening. Mina probably needs the rest but he is our biggest impact player on free kicks. Sanchez needs a transfer this summer and to recover form before club games start again. He needs to be a starter by next set of qualifiers/the Actual WC

I mean I would like if we dropped all over 30 players minus Ospina and Cuadrado. Tho def would like Cuadrado to be taken out I don’t like him at all. And his diving antics

actually the cup might help so that Rueda can get this team working more like a machine and fix their mental lapse. This isn't the 1st time Argentina done this crap to us.

So after a pretty strong statement by Casemiro following their game vs Ecuador, Brazil players have put out a statement saying they are unsatisfied with the copa being played in Brazil for humanitarian reasons. Not for political reasons. But they will not be boycotting and will play in the tournament.

    Very interesting to see Otero.
I wanted him to be called when he was playing with Mendoza in France.

Lerma got dropped since he will have a 2 game suspension haha but Perez is still in.

Once again it all comes down to a trust issue.
Rueda briefly managed Chara back at Nacional so there is already a relationship there and he knows his tactics.

I would have liked to see cantillo make the cut or some of the other Boca players. Cantillo is already in Brazil - one less flight ticket to worry about ;)

The midfield he picked is kind of weak

9 attackers seems a bit much but
Diaz, Chara and Otero are attacking mfs

mf 8 (dropped Lerma and didn’t bring James…. He is still on time out)
    1. Cuadrado (don’t like him but he is our it guy till James is back)
    2. Cuellar (want to see him and Barrios to see if it works. Seems Rueda wants one or the other)
    3. Uribe (dude needs to be more consistent)
    4. Barrios ( time for him to win back his spot)
    5. Yairo Moreno (not sold on him but can play LB if needed)
    6. Cardona …. Was not impressive vs Argentina needs to show what he can do with no James

    Werid
    7. Perez (haha still made the cut)
    8. Baldomero (does his mom know him?)

are they better than Alzate? Or other domestic options? If he was looking at MLS what happened to Auesta?

im not sure if Rueda knows Alzate. Funny to see Sebastian Perez here but im a fan of his so complaints. In my mind Chara, Otero and Diaz are all wingers. Happy to see the Genk trio in. Anyway, I think we'll get eliminated in the 1st elimination round. Hope im wrong

Any potential matches in the quarters will be difficult since that is the tougher group.

If we get Paraguay though I think we can beat them. Chile would be interesting because Rueda knows them very well and knows their weaknesses.
Argentina and Uruguay would obviously be very tough but I am not sure they are automatic losses.
And if somehow Bolivia surprises that would be ideal since we almost never lose to those guys.

I see no reason to add Yimmi Chara other than speed. Maybe Reinaldo wants him as a super sub after everyone ran their asses off?

adding Atuesta would of been awesome, surely the USMNT will pick him up if he gets overlooked.

we're not getting past Argies or Brazil, Uruguay is 50/50 depending on our form. Paraguay we should be able to beat and i'd put Chile in the same situation as Uruguay.
