Now even pundit types are weighing in on American soccer branding... 1395013136881758208 is not a valid tweet id
Thread So I spent last night flipping through a 1999 USL media guide, and I’d like to present a healthy number of actual team logos from this era.A thread. pic.twitter.com/AQpCeUsdr1— claybraham lincoln (@ClayLaSoul) May 25, 2021
Leander Schaerlaeckens: The Kit-industrial Complex For some American soccer clubs, designing the best jersey is its own sport--and business So many soccer teams with badly designed crests and generic jerseys just refusing to get that easy merch money...
I've endured a lot as a Fire supporter. After they changed to the "Real Salt Lake Michigan" (mine) logo I pretty much gave up. I am on life support as a fan. If they miss the mark with this rebranding, I am done. You may think this is petty but I have been with the team since before they even existed (see: near catastrophe of naming them the Rhythm) and I have endured a lot (Paolo Wanchope, the move to Naperville, the move to Bridgeview, Peter Wilt's dismissal, Andrew Hauptman, Juan Carlos Osario sneaking off to NY, Dave Sarachan, did I mention Andrew Hauptman?, and the list goes on) and there have been some AMAZING moments and people....but those are all dated. I've been off of BigSoccer for 14 years due to nearly realizing full-on apathy...but I am giving them this one chance. The fans are what made this club. Give them something to believe in. Peter Wilt was amazing with how he understood and related with the fans. Start with the rebrand and then get to work on the talent, because this team is nothing short of unwatchable. The brand matters!

It's average to a bit above average, I would say. It's too round and clean to look like a true soccer crest to me, but aside from that I think it actually looks pretty nice (probably somewhat helped by the comparison to other recent absolute flops). It's still pretty simple, but there's enough detailing and design in the red loops that it's actually interesting to look at, and the slash through the R is a relatively unique touch.

Agree here. Also, it's another damn circle. Still a pretty good design on its own, but what happened to crests being actually crest-shaped? MLS is going to look like it's a button-collecting league soon.
It's fine, there are 8 circles out of 29 teams, that's not too many. Atlanta Charlotte Chicago Miami Montreal NYC Philadelphia Portland As a Quakes fan, I can assure you it's very possible to f*ck up a rebrand even with a shield-shaped crest!
Yeah it's only about a bit under a third, but 8 (or 9 if we include the upcoming Revs rebrand) out of 29 is still a hell of a lot higher than for most leagues... Plus, of those 9 circles, most have been in the past two or three years with relatively few more traditional crests during that time. It seems like a fad most brand consulting groups have bought into wholesale, and a lame one at that.

I think they actually nailed it! It's a 9/10 for me. Now they need some ball players that want to win.
You know what, it pretty much is for me too... it takes a week or two to fully take it in, but it's pretty damn good.
Not bad at all for a lower division team (aiming for USL League One)... it puts many much bigger teams to shame with their lazy or unprofessional branding (crest and/or name). The name is a mouthful but love the mountains on the top. Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC to Launch Name and Crest The club’s colors will be navy, white, and tan, representing the “naturally occurring beauty, along with the noble fortitude of the community and the breathtaking tones of the mountainous terrain.” The club’s crest features a white background with blue, and a tan outline. There are five hail stones of varying size with lines tracking their path. The hailstone linework somewhat mimics the shape of the original Telstar, the official ball of the 1970 World Cup. Navy and tan linework at the top of the crest show an outline of two distinct mountain peaks.
