Anything to avoid spending in the summer. Then in another season we'll be hearing about how he is finished and how we can't get rid of him. Lucas has been a great servant.. I have defended him on here as well as criticized him on here. However his time should have been done. Which shows what kind of level planning we're doing. We sell a talent most of us here valued well over €40M last summer, who turns around and is now worth double less than a year later (shocker!) and who would meet a need for next season. Hey at least we forced Bale and James to stay two summers ago and told then we wouldn't let them go..... even though our manager wanted nothing more.
Fair enough, but since you think everyone is going overboard linking names to the club, who can the club get in your opinion that you think are realistic options to " fill in" said spots, if we get the squad down to only useful players ?
I hope so, if not him then some other players, we simply can't go into next seaosn with this same attack.
Manchester United are in talks with Paul Pogba over a new contract. The midfielder either has had a change of heart and wants to stay at the club or there are no offers for him because of the current financial climate.(Source: Sky Sports) pic.twitter.com/McKSE9zgev— Transfer News Live (@DeadlineDayLive) June 10, 2021
Yet people constantly blow the "Hakimi can't defend" thing way out of proportion. We've been playing a 30 year old winger as RB, he would do just fine.
That multiple player swap deal sounds ridiculously far fetched. The logistics involved to work something like this out are absurd. Dortmund will probably sell Sancho, but they're getting actual money for him, not players other clubs want to get off their wage bill.
If Hakimi's best comparison as a defender is a 30 year old winger that tried this defender thing just last season then the man REALLY can't defend.
Who said Lucas is the best comparison? Hakimi was not that bad for us in the season he played for us and he was a teenager. Dude is a good player. Good RBs are extremely hard to find, someone like Hakimi is even harder.
That's who I see him getting compared to. Fact is he doesn't really stand a chance against a healthy Carvajal. So if we assume that Carvajal will have another rotten season, sure good to think about it, but if we spend all that money on a guy who can only run fast and kick it hard while Carvajal is more or less healthy over the entire season it will be a colossal waste of money and time.
Carva played 31 league games in 2019-20. Hakimi was used to playing that many games as a starter at BVB. His agent had a strong tone about playing time last summer. An injury plauged season by Carva and fans making themselves believe that Hakimi would have taken a rotation role based on a recent quote when it was convenient for him to say that. Morata does that a lot after every transfer. Why was Hakimi's agent harping so much about his role being key last summer then?
Well, we can consider all that drama to every discussion or we can go back to the basics. Is he a good player or not. I think he is. Is he worth 60-80 million? Of course not.
If Mbapoe thinks that’s his PSG are winning anything important soon I would ask him to think again. From what I understand they are going with a mid of verratti winjaldum and paredes as starters next year.
Ideally we would have kept him back then, but whether we should have kept him back then, shouldn't be a a factor in bringing him back on a transfer fee + big wages deal.
It's moronic. As if what we are missing is more defensive FBs. No, we need attacking ones... heck one who could also play as RW in emergency. We sold for €40M last year and when some of us complained about the price the same people told us it was a good price. A year later the same people are trying to convince us the player is trash. The reality is we are being poorly ran.... ran right into the ground (in terms of on-field, personnel management, etc)
It's not even about bringing him back at this point, it's how the hell was it intelligent or good planning to sell him for €40M yet do everything to keep the other bums we have forced into this team?
The reality is the only teams doing anything different than Real Madrid does have the limitless funding cheat code enabled.
It was "good business" if you take it out of context. If you take into consideration that we've kept Marcelo, Isco, Asensio, Lucas and Odri while selling someone who would have provided Carvajal healthy competition and eventually replaced him when the time came, then it doesn't sound like such good business, does it?
I’d refer honestly to @Saeta Rubia post above. Isn’t the difference that Hakimi was the only one of those guys that wanted to go?
Bild says Bayern willing to sell Coman for around 65 ME as they have no intention of matching his 20 ME gross wages demand.
We going to have a Euro's thread or follow the games on this thread? I wasnt fussed a week or 2 ago about it but I am buzzing about this tournament now!
