Only time I got to see them was after standing in the pouring rain for like 2 hours smoking weed in a field outside Indianapolis trying not to kill my phones battery so I could get back to the airbnb. I need to see em again dry. Then again concerts never live up to the hype

    This is the greatest…thing, ever.

The clapping with the music is just a really nice touch.

Yes, any disco gives gas & nausea. Somehow, that just doesn't end (except for the obvious front & back ends of the aforementioned maladies).

You kids don't remember that us geezers fought battles to keep you safe from disco. Where's the respect?

You are right. Most folks of my generation dont know about this. I know about it because Im a huge eurodance fan. And I dont know when but at some point Ive read up all the available literature on it and obviously the founding source was 70s disco. That lead me to read everything up on disco, how it died out in the US, how it survived in Europe. How disco was taken to the extremes in the US and thus -when it had peaked- was entirely replaced by rock as the main source of music the youth listened to.

But this came with a downside: catchy, danceable tunes with little text went out of fashion. In short, giving up on disco is the reason why all the main DJs, producers, composers of today are coming out of Europe. Of the world's most successful DJs 4 out of 5 are from Europe. The same likely applies to producers. Max Martin has either written or produced every major pop song between now and 1996.

In Europe, with like 40 different languages, you got to compete on catchy melodies and tunes in order to make major sales. In a US without language barriers, you compete on lyrics, which is why the best songwriters are from the US. As an American artist you just then have to fly in into Amsterdam, Stockholm or wherever to get a decent song melody produced over the lyrics.

So, if it wasnt for spotify or the internet you couldnt blast this jam all over your house while cleaning, just because you dismissed disco as "not manly enough" 40 years ago ;)

For me despising disco had nothing to do with it "not being manly enough" or anything to do with masculinity. It's that it is entirely vapid. I understand that's the purpose of it, to be a mindless buzz beat to forget one's troubles. That's fine. If one enjoys it, then do so. On the other hand, when it was being force fed down our eustachian tubes and other parts of our ears at the price of more substantial music sacrificing airwave access and now bandwidth, then I've got a problem.

Hmm... you think it is vapid. I always perceived dance music as something that's supposed to entertain. Nothing more. You know there can be disco music which is clever and not just meant for jumping around like a rabbit. The question is if this purpose is reached or "clever enough" for you since the American music market/taste is so lyrics-heavy anyways that anything below Bob Dylan will be considered as crap.

But yes, with "not manly enough" I was not referring to you in particular but the generation back then. Rock successfully painted itself as the man's man music. That didnt happen in Europe

exhibit a regarding "clever" song topics, "growing up without one's father"
