We're close enough now with the tournament being 2 weeks away that we can get this thread going.

I still don't get the English hype every damn time a Euro or World Cup comes along

no clue haha.. but i know i love that we are coming in under the radar.

Mancini ball might be the best fluid attacking football of any of the euro teams this year... yet i cant tell you how many "previews" from english pundits about us i've read that say were going to lean on the defence and we lack creativity

I like flying under the radar as well. People think we have nothing going for us... Let them think that. So far, all I hear is football is coming home... I heard that same statement for the last 50+ years.

Probably just because the English speaking fans bet heavily on the English and oddsmakers just shorten the odds to ensure they diversify risk if they have to pay out. The house always wins.

Berardi has to start opposite Insigne, right? He’s earned it with like 5 goals in 6 games. Use Chiesa’s pace later on in matches to get in behind the tired legs of defenses.

Locatelli will likely play all three group stage matches. If he and Italy perform, I would keep Verratti on the bench. Might seem controversial, but why rock the boat and start with someone that will not have played in something like 6-7 weeks by the time the KO rounds begin? It’s a month long tournament, not a fantasy league. If Italy is playing well and reaches the KO rounds with some confident performances, don’t change anything.

I’m conflicted on Emerson or Spinazzola starting at left back. Spinazzola has obviously had the better club season, but whenever I see Emerson play with the national team, he looks much more comfortable in that traditional left back role. Spinazzola typically plays in an advanced left back position at Roma, which suits his characteristics because he is a handful for the opposition when provided with space to run into, but I feel as though his impact is best suited for matches where Italy is constantly on the front foot and in the opposition’s half. Instead, Emerson links up very nicely with Insigne and can play intricately in tight spaces along the sideline. He’s also more suited to the traditional left back role. I definitely think Spinazzola will see a lot of time and Emerson doesn’t have the minutes in his legs to play 90 every three days, but I think the latter should start.

    Starting 11:

    - - - - - - - - - - - Donnarumma - - - - - - - - - - -

    - Florenzi - - Bonucci - Chiellini - - Emerson -

    - - - - Barella - - - Jorginho - - - Locatelli - - - -

    - - - Berardi - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Insigne - - -
    - - - - - - - - - - - - - Immobile - - - - - - - - - - - -

*Chiesa & Spinazzola should both get a lot of time and should start the Wales match, if Italy handles business against Turkey and Switzerland.

Chiesa will be more useful vs. the big teams that will hold the ball and attack us. He thrives vs. teams that give him space. Berardi on the other hand is perfect for the current system.

I can't see Verratti not playing at least one group game. Mancini has stayed loyal to him throughout and according to reports, he's ready to play. I can see Locatelli starting Friday, but I'd be shocked if Marco didn't come on in the 2nd half and/or start Game 2.

Otherwise, agreed on Chiesa coming on in the 2nd half. Him and Berardi are interchangeable during the group stages.
Same with Emerson and Spinazzola. I can see Mancini rotating both.

Another question is: does Chiellini start all 3 group matches?

Confident that Italy do very well and can even win it if a few pieces fall into place along the way. Mancini has been there and done it. With his level headed approach he can keep the squad natural as the competition pressure grows. Half the battle.

I see the market in Uk has 4 million matched. 1m on France. Second place is England with 0.75m and third Italy with 0.5m. I got Italy at 13/1 last week and they are now in to 8/1 and the biggest movers. With 3 games in Rome we expect to see them get the job done. They should be moving to joint 2nd favs in a weeks time. Good vibes for Italy

Bad news about Pellegrini! He is almost out of Euros! Castrovilli now in his place! We said our midfield is so powerful but luck is not in our side! We lost Sensi, Pellegrini and Verratti is not yet ready! I still believe we can make it!

Yes, I like Castrovilli a lot! I really wanted him in the squad and now it’s his chance! It’s a long road (I hope) and we will need almost everyone!
