MASL owners are meeting this week. I am guessing that its in Dallas since that is where the owners from the Eastern Division are right now.

it will be interesting to se what expansion teams, if any, are brought in for next season. remember, only 7 teams actually played last season, and roughly half the league sat out.

Below is an article just posted on Front Row Soccer by Michael Lewis:

MESSING ON THE MASL TRIUMVIRATE: ‘This is a labor of love for us because we believe in the sport so much’

    https://www.frontrowsoccer.com/2021...e2m85Tju1tj0pJ3kzPQctLL6oTDpExe2m7AOja0HN2bf0

    Two things of interest:

    1) The article mistakenly lists "Orlando Fury" as having played in the prior season (as opposed to Ontario)
    2) There is active discussion of potentially changing the league's name back to the Major Indoor Soccer League or MISL.

"There are several challenges to tackle, big and small.

One appears to be the name of the league, the Major Arena Soccer League. No doubt the game is played in an arena, but it is indoor soccer.

Tozer, Dellacamera and Messing have strong ties to the original Major Indoor Soccer League, which ran from 1978-92. Messing indicated that the trio would look into the league’s name.

“We’re going to be known as an indoor soccer league. That’s what we are,” he said. “It’s going be a main topic over the summer.”"

jesus, is it ever going to end with expansion and some of you? solidify first. some of you are so enamored with potential teams when the issue is how do we stop the bleeding first? existing teams have to be on firm footing. expansion is just throwing stuff at the wall in hopes something sticks.

if this triumvirate takes the same approach as everybody else over the last 20-30 years, we get nowhere.

Doesn’t the USL own the rights to the name “Major Indoor Soccer League” ?

Yes they do. Just goes to show how little smarts Messing brings. The problem with their product isn't the name.

I may have read it too quickly but I don't think he said anything about the MISL name, I think he just said the sport should be called "indoor soccer" not "arena soccer".

You are correct. The poster implied it, but it is simply Shep saying he prefers indoor soccer over arena soccer.

Six of one, half a dozen of the other Shep.

I always figured arena soccer was meant to differentiate the game from futsal, which is also soccer played indoors.

Not exactly an issue in the halcyon days of the MISL.

somehow that confusion didn't come up for the first 30+ years of pro indoor soccer in this country.

probably because as relatively few people as there were who really cared strongly about indoor soccer, virtually no one knew of or cared about futsal in all that time.

but i am sure once that pro futsal league starts up four years ago, it will (have) become an issue.

They would have to spend a ton of money on the Name Major indoor soccer league. Fist they would have to prove that they are completely different from what the USL already has in place Then pay to have a brand new logo designed. I agree we need to get rid of the name Area ,

Are the Soles totally going out of business or playing in a Mexican league?

The article simply says that Sonora's membership is being transferred to Chihuahua.

I saw that. I was wondering if Scooge knew anything about the Soles' (business entity) plans (this isn't a relocation of the Soles' business operation as they sold their franchise to an existing MASL2 club).
