Embarrassingly for a CONCACAF resident I just came into this thread for the first time.

So impressed. This is really great stuff!

Unbelievable turnaround, and one front-runner is out - Atlas lose on away goals, as Querétaro scored twice in the later stages of their quarter-final 2nd leg:

    Atlas 2 - 3 Querétaro (Agg: 4-4, Away goals: 2-3)
    Joana Robles 21', Adriana Iturbide 34' / Liz Rodríguez 25', 76'p, Adriana Orozco 85'

So the No.7 team are the first semifinalist. That match was played early on Monday, with three more QF games today.

In Guadalajara, some great stuff by Club América to win the 4th v 5th quarter-final. An Eva González golazo made it 0-3 overall to put it beyond doubt, though Chivas responded with two late goals - another near-miss season for them.

    2nd leg:
    Chivas 2 - 2 América (Agg: 2-3)
Alicia Cervantes 74’, Isabella Gutiérrez 84’ / Marlyn Campa 59’, Eva González 66’

Elsewhere, last year's finalists both won their quarter-finals at home:

    Tigres 4 - 1 Pachuca (Agg: 6-2)
    Stephany Mayor 3', Katty Martínez 13', 20', Belén Cruz 68' / Andrea Balcázar 51'

The semi-finals are starting on Friday (4 Dec) - América v Rayadas, and Querétaro v Tigres.

Coronavirus cases in 2020: Few teams have been unaffected, as reported here. During the season, 13 players at Atlas caught the virus, and 14 at Cruz Azul.

At the Azteca, the first semi-final became a penalty nightmare for Daniela Espinosa, with a miss and a save, and América lost their chance without the successful spot-kicks. Rayadas scored through Burkenroad, Evangelista, Monsiváis (now on 16 goals this season) and Rebeca Bernal.

Another strike by Katty Martínez for Tigres, and she has a phenomenal 22 goals so far. Querétaro have had a great season under coach Carla Rossi after she arrived from Tijuana, but this contest might be a bridge too far. The sideline camera didn't catch Martínez's goal for 1-0, but there's a clip here. For the 2nd, Stefany Mayor set up Natalia Gómez Junco.

Semifinals, 2nd leg: Rayadas reach another final, but will they repeat their heroics of a year ago? This time they avoided a harder road to the final, due to the upset loss for Atlas, who were higher-ranked in 2nd but eliminated.

(Note, if 1st-leg video above was blocked, see some of Rayadas' 4-1 win here).
And the goals in the vuelta:

    Monterrey 3 - 2 América (Agg: 7-3)
    Evangelista 12', 74', Burkenroad 82' / Jocelyn Ojedel 33', Dayana Cazares 88'

Much has changed in the year 2020, but the final follows the old ways - the championship will be decided in the northeast, in Nuevo León, with the Clásico Regio. At the university stadium, Tigres won their semifinal with more breakthroughs by Mayor (13') and Gómez Junco (63').

Tigres are already the No.1 club at providing a lot of media, and they streamed the 2nd leg live. Their Youtube channel also has their recent home games in 30-minute highlights.

    Tigres UANL 2 - 0 Querétaro (Agg: 4-0)

⬤ The final begins, and it's an overtime shift for the ref with so much penalty-box controversy. Eventually, it was Tigres who gained the advantage:

Lizbeth Ovalle gets the vital goal due to Godínez's error. Because it's the final, her strike is not worth extra as an away goal this time.

Tigres will hope to finish the job at home in Monday's final 2nd leg. From before the final, a preview and team info are on the FMF State of Mind blog.

    [IMG] Clausura 2020/21

The start of 2021, Matchdays 1–10:

Atlas made the early running with successive wins over América, 2-1, and Tigres by the same score. Alison González was once a champion with the opponents, but she got both goals for Atlas:

    Atlas 2 - 1 Tigres UANL
    www.youtube.com/watch?v=vL-FLYWJkGw
    [IMG]

The biggest shock was a dismantling of Rayadas after they scored 10 goals in their first 2 games. They lost to the team they knocked out in December's quarter-final, Pumas:

    Pumas UNAM 3 - 0 Rayadas Monterrey
Fabiola Santamaria 38', Laura Herrera 63', Marlyn Campa 90'
    www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lk4HpQzB1pQ
    [IMG]

Week 5 had a promising result for Atlético San Luis, their first ever draw with Tigres (0-0)... which was completely drowned out by the thrilling gol shouts in Atlas 3, Pachuca 3, and this one:

    Querétaro 3 - 3 Chivas Guadalajara
    www.youtube.com/watch?v=brUi0tyCKmA
    [IMG]

Pumas UNAM were leading the table until the 8th match, when they lost to América, 3-1, and then Tigres knocked Pumas down with a 4-0 win in Mexico City the next week.

Elsewhere, relatively new team Juárez got an incredible first win of the year, 4-3 at Rayadas. And the newest team, Mazatlán, moved up to 10th place in the 10th match by beating Necaxa, on the special occasion of the league's first game with fans for 12 months:

A goal by Mariana Ramos made the final score 2-0. (Match report: Esto.com.mx) - Attendance: 2,180

Matchdays 11–17: Playoff places were decided this week as the top 6 clubs coincidentally met their nearest rivals. The 8th playoff place went to América, who knocked out Cruz Azul in 9th due to last week's game:

    América 2 - 1 Cruz Azul
-Dani Flores 28', Janelly Farías 51' / Rebeca Villuendas 83'
    www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfY8t_7skrU
    [IMG]

Toluca took 7th place with some important close wins, including at the 3rd-placed Atlas, 2-1.

Chivas are back near the top of the league:

    Chivas Guadalajara 5 - 0 Rayadas Monterrey
    -Isabella Gutiérrez 51', Carolina Jaromillo 52', Joseline Montoya 60'p, 67', 90'
    www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGeg67rfBnc
    [IMG]

They had a chance to overtake Tigres and win the league yesterday, but Chivas fell short. Tigres take 1st place with a victory 4-3. Second place is Chivas' best ever finish in the standings although they won the 2017 title - now the team goes into another quarter-final, the disappointment in December will still be in their minds.

Quarter-finals: The top 4 all won without trouble, making it a very strong semifinal lineup with two Clásicos.

So, we have a semifinal Guadalajara derby, Clásico Tapatío, between Atlas and Chivas (Friday 17:00 CT / 22:00 GMT), then the northern Clásico Regio, Rayadas Monterrey vs Tigres UANL, the previous finalists. Their league meeting was a 2-2 draw six weeks ago. The return games of the semis are on Monday.

    Semifinal 1st leg, crazy stuff...

    Monterrey 2 - 2 Tigres
    Burkenroad 52', Monsiváis 71' / Nancy Antonio 47', Blanca Solís 90+1'
    www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWkeXaRSXQc
    [IMG]

Tigres just about take the advantage in the last minute with Solís's equalizing away goal, but it could hardly be closer! Monterrey's keeper Alejandría Godínez will be suspended today with her red card - Rayadas would need to repeat their dramatic win at Tigres of last December.

The other semi, Atlas-Chivas, was an exciting game too but nobody made the breakthrough, so it goes back to the Estadio Akron at 0-0.
Monday's return games are a doubleheader, starting with Tigres-Rayadas (19:00 CT, 00:00 GMT) - Youtube may have live coverage.

And Chivas win, to reach their first final since 2017:

The fmfstateofmind blog has a roundup of the semifinals and news in Latin America. And Chivas' postgame interview with winning goalscorer 'Licha' Cervantes and head coach Edgar Mejía (on a laptop!).

Chivas host the final 1st leg on Monday night, 24 May (21:00 CT, 02:00 GMT). Return game at Tigres the following Monday. After Tigres' 4-1 (Agg: 6-3) semifinal, they could win the first double championship of Apertura-Clausura in one season, but every final so far has been a close match, going back to the first one when Chivas beat Pachuca 3-2 on aggregate:

    https://www.fmfstateofmind.com/2021...-foreigners-u17-television-maternity-nwsl-wsl

    Liga MX Femenil announces changes
The league will allow foreign players, establish a U17 division, and look to increase business partnerships in a bold new vision laid out by President Mikel Arriola.

iga MX Femenil will look a little different next year and in years to come, as the league made several announcements regarding things as varied as player rules and cooperation with other women’s soccer leagues. Liga MX Executive President Mikel Arriola announced several changes to the league earlier today.

    • Teams can sign up to two foreign-born players starting in the next tournament. The league stared out only allowing Mexican-born players, amending the rule to allow Mexicans with dual citizenship to play starting with the 2018 Apertura.
    • A U17 division will be created. Previously teams were only required to field a first division team, however some had youth teams to develop players.
    • Televising all Liga MX Femenil matches. Currently six teams have deals with TUDN, six with FOX Sports Mexico, three with TVC Deportes, and one each with Claro Sports and TVP. Atlético de San Luis does not have a television deal for their femenil team, although ESPN broadcasts the men’s team. This is in Mexico only, however TUDN broadcasts their games in the United States and Chivas has a deal that allows NBC/Telemundo to broadcast their games in the US and via CHIVAS TV worldwide.
    • Adhering to the FIFA rule for substituting and registering players in the event of a player pregnancy. No formal policy existed previously, and this brings Liga MX Femenil in line with FIFA guidelines where teams can register a player during the season in the event a player needs to take maternity leave.
    • Forming alliances with the National Women’s Soccer League in the United States and FA Women’s Super League in England. It makes sense that as women’s soccer becomes a more global game that partnerships and alliances will form between leagues.
    • New competitions. In addition to the U17 division, Liga MX Femenil will establish a Campeones Cup, ostensibly between the winner of Liga MX Femenil and NWSL starting in December 2021. In June of 2022 they’re looking to establish a four team “international tournament”, although how many Mexican teams will be in and where the other teams will be from was not announced. In July 2022 will be the first Campeón de Campeones, which will again inferring from the name be the winner of the previous Apertura and Clausura facing off against one another. And a Balón d’Oro Femenil established in July 2022 as well.

I'm surprised they would try to form alliances with FA WSL. Was expecting like leagues in South America and the Caribbean besides the NWSL. I'm excited about the Campeones Cup. Course would love to see a CONCACAF version champions league for women's side.

I'm afraid Telemundo ironically blocks its highlights around the mundo. Including Mexico. (And TUDN and Chivas geoblock vids in the U.S., the rights are weird. Liga official channel is usually worldwide)

But what a game, and what an ending. Most exciting league, bar none!

    Final 1st leg
    Guadalajara 1 - 2 Tigres
Anette Vázquez 50' / Stephany Mayor 13', Greta Espinoza 90+4'

Chivas: Blanca Félix; Damaris Godínez, Michelle González, Miriam García, Jaqueline Rodríguez; Miriam Castillo, Victoria Acevedo; Anette Vázquez (Gabriela Valenzuela, 69’), Carolina Jaramillo, Joseline Montoya; Licha Cervantes (Isabella Gutiérrez, 76’). Tigres UANL: Ofelia Solís; Natalia Villarreal, Bianca Sierra, Greta Espinoza, Cristina Ferral; María Sánchez, Nancy Antonio, Liliana Mercado, Jackie Ovalle (Blanca Solís, 74’); Stephany Mayor, Belén Cruz (Katty Martínez, 66’) - (Match report: FMFstateofmind)
