Hello guys, an interesting discussion you have about Miedema and Arsenal. Don't you think that this is actually an easy (kind of move) for everyone involved? You don't need to be a genius to realise that Arsenal kind of following the Men's team path. Jumped on the Women's Football wagon quite early, build probably the best team in England and used to be one of the biggest clubs in Europe. Fortunately or unfortunately not anymore. Looks like they are miles behind Man City and Chelsea now, battling with the emerging Man United team for a CL spot. And if you are one of the best players in the world (Miedema) in your prime, you probably want to win as much as you can and make as much as you can, and unfortunately, it's not possible to do at Arsenal anymore. Why would you renew your contract, if you can sign a better contract with a better club? And Arsenal knows that as well, that's why they want to get as much as possible out of this situation (as people mentioned already). If you want a real shot to win a League title and challenge for CL Title, you have to play for one of those teams: England: Chelsea, Man City Germany: Bayern, Wolfsburg France: Lyon, PSG Spain: Barcelona If you not playing for one of those clubs, you don't have a shot to win the CL title, simple as that. In addition, if you playing in one of those leagues (above) but not for one of those clubs, you don't have a shot to win the league title as well. p.s Good move for Lyon, you get one of the best players in the world, by sacrificing a less valuable player. Not sure why anyone surprised about this situation. Actually quite a similar situation in Men's football, straight swap Pogba for Ronaldo. Even though this one is much more complicated because of the age difference and different scale of finansial aspects involved (in men's football).
Yeah, Lyon made a good move for Miedema. Definitely a big upgrade for a striker. Lets see how they will do against Barcelona next CL.
Good points--and I agree about Arsenal. The club simply doesn't have--or won't commit to--a budget that's a big as those at Chelsea, ManCity, ManU. We've seen it with the men's team for years and we see it with the women's team as well, with the above teams going out and getting Bronze and some top U.S. players while Arsenal signed Catley, who is a good player (but I'm not sure if she's elite) and she was out injured all year. That said, if I were a top player, I'd want to play in the WSL as opposed to any of the other country leagues. Top to bottom, the WSL is the strongest league, with four strong clubs at the top and a decent (or better) middle tier. The French and German leagues have two top-tier clubs, maybe a decent third or so (certainly Bordeaux is good--but now are in financial trouble)--but the bottom half of those leagues, I believe, are weak--some not even fully professional. You're simply going to get more bigger, competitive games in the WSL, which I'd want as a player. Who wants to play cupcakes in 70 percent of your league matches? Yes, it's nice to be assured of a CL spot every year, but I, for one, would want a strong competitive league environment. Now, if Lyon, PSG or Wolfsburg were offering to double my salary, that would be a serious consideration, too! And there's still no answer to the question of how Lyon would integrate Miedema with Hegerberg. It wouldn't be the same as Chelsea integrating Kirby, Kerr and Harder. I would think ManCity or ManU would be better teams for Miedema--they each need an elite CF now--though Arsenal wouldn't want to trade with its league rivals.
Her agent confirmed she does not want to leave this Summer... According to the Guardian, Vivianne Miedema could possibly be involved in a swap deal between Lyon and Arsenal, but her agent Leoni Blokhuis (flowsports) denies that.💬 "Vivianne will stay, as it looks now, at Arsenal next season."https://t.co/foLd4RCPKn— miedemastuff (@miedemastuff) May 27, 2021
PSG being PSG ie being stupid 🇫🇷 Le PSG féminin se prépare à un exode cet été.https://t.co/zoluiAh2N2— RMC Sport (@RMCsport) May 27, 2021 Losing Paredes to Barca, Endler and Bruun to Lyon and maybe Morroni to Bayern. And replacing them with De Almeida and Estelle Cascarino. Also not looking and extending the coach's contract too.
Also checked, that Lyon and PSG are playing against each other on Sunday, that would pretty much decide the winner.
Looks like Arsenal fans will be happy and able to see her again next season in person. But at the same time next year she will probably move on.

Not in terms of money as Chelsea, PSG, Lyon or Bayern are right there. Anyway it will become very hard for any club to win UWCL three times in a row again (forget about five). Barca still the favourite for 2021/22 ...unless Chelsea gonna hire a better coach. (sorry but I don't see Hayes winning UWCL)
Is Barca going to sell Oshoala to ManCity? She had 13 goals this past season but with Barca signing Rolfo it's getting crowded up top for the Spanish champs.
From what I've seen, Barça made a good deal: In my opinion Rolfö > Oshoala. Oshoala scored a lot, yes, but in the games I've seen she missed at least twice as many clear-cut chances as those she converted. And if you tell me any FW does that, I'll tell you that there are anyway more clinical strikers than Oshoala and that a lot of the chances I've seen her waste were actual sitters.
Not only that. Apparently, Oshoala is not happy with her role at Barcelona (very strange to me personally) which means there's no point to keep a player who is not happy with her team. In addition, she still has her contract until 2023 or something which means Manchester United (as I understand not City) already made an offer for her. Probably nothing crazy (transfer fee wise) but still you got something out of this situation. On top of that, you get Rolfo for free as a replacement. Good move. Same for Losada who is leaving Barca for Man City. As I understand Engen coming as a replacement, who is much younger both free transfers. Probably the same for Paredes, an amazing CB who will be playing with Mapi Leon (almost dream team duo CB wise). Barca would probably let Andrea Pereira go for free, or keep her for rotation (if Pereira is ok with that) and let Serrano go. The only loss will be Hamraoui who is still very good, but at the age of 31, I can assume you can let her go and bring in some players for rotation from the academy as they have a lot of good youngsters (even though probably for different positions). Personally can't wait to see how Claudia Pina will progress. Love to see her playing for Barcelona more consistently.
Oshoala is certainly not ideal for Barca's possession style but, with her pace, can be devastatingly effective on the counter, especially if you've got a second-half lead and the opponent is pushing forward. And that was her role late in the season for Barca. (I think she was starting more early in the season, no?) Explosive player--but, yes, futzes a lot of good chances. Barca will miss her pace--any team would--and I can certainly see why ManU would want her.
Yeah she tore up the youth ranks and her twenties could be epic. Paredes and Engen is a significant boost, and when you're the champion that makes your neighbours ears and eyes perk up. Should be interesting to see if anyone else joins the arms race.
Rumour. Hasegawa linked with Barca and PSG Sirene estere su #Hasegawa, in particolar modo Barcellona e PSG. La centrocampista del #MilanFemminile dal 21 luglio al 7 agosto sarà impegnata nelle Olimpiadi di Tokyo.— Luca Maninetti (@LucaManinetti) June 3, 2021 @blissett 's insight:
"Explosive player--but, yes, futzes a lot of good chances." Not the greatest fit then for Man United Women. According to FBref, they did have a notably smaller xG/xA than the big 3, which Oshoala may help to improve with her movement/pace, but the bigger issue was their G-xG compared to the big 3. Also, United Women had only the 7th best A-xA in the league (a negative value in fact) with the big 3 way ahead. They need a clinical striker who doesn't futze a lot of good chances, but it seems a bit unlikely such a striker is available. I'm looking forward to seeing if Russo can remain healthy/fit and replicate what we saw from her for a few matches throughout next season. Not against signing Oshoala though, and Russo staying consistently fit doesn't seem to be a guarantee at this point.
I'm not gonna rule this out since WSL now has a home grown requirement. Not sure how they qualify home grown as well (since a couple of the Arsenal players played in college in the US). Parris seems to qualify as home grown, and seeing as Arsenal might need another home grown player, I'm not ruling this swap out despite Miedemia/agent saying otherwise.
Homegrown is 3 years in the English system before 21. Arsenal have 8 of them right now. 6 English and 2 Scots so they make the mark just.
That rule is also valid for non British players there is a Mexican player Silvana Flores who counts as homegrown as she has done her 3 years in England after playing at ipswich, Arsenal, Chelsea and Reading.
