I'm not here to defend Chipotle or diminish the better-tasting, cheaper, and all-around superior local Mexican restaurants, but I'd bet dollars to donuts there are more antibiotics and other unnatural components to the meat at the hole-in-the-wall spots than at Chipotle

    ...and?

Sure, but did the hole in the wall place poison 650 people in one shot in 2018?
    ...and 55 in 2015 (11 states0?
...and in 2017 (California and Va.)?
    ...and in 2020 (Ohio)?
    ...and in 2021?

The answer, of course, is "yes," but not in those numbers and they were not reported.

I mean, if you want to prorate for the customer base, I'd be curious to see how it shook out

my point is that the hole in the wall is the better place, but use like 15 other better arguments than the "realness" of the food

Sorry to upset anybody with my comment about Chipotle.

Please, by all means enjoy this delicious Mexican grill and enjoy your local Chicago Dominoes and Little Caesar's as well!

Chipotle is great for vegetarians. Little Village? Not so much….

Disparage Dominoes all you like, I'll ride a 10 speed bike shirtless in a pair of Levis and work boots with a lit cigarette in my mouth to fight anyone who denigrates Little Caesars.

What you get with Chipotle is consistency. Sure there are locals that are much better and I’ve had some that are much worse. It’s the same with burger joints.

I’ve read conspiracy theories that given Chipotles process and sourcing compared to McDonalds, BK, Wendy’s etc, it’s statistically inconceivable for so many to have become ill. The argument being that’s it’s more likely corporate sabotage than employees not washing hands or contaminated produce. It’s a claim that’s yet unproven, so take it for that.

You are absolutely correct. This is the biggest drawback of some authentic restaurants in the city, and it holds true for Polish, German, Colombian, Chinese and Thai. Although I'd say you're pretty safe if you hit up an authentic Argentina spot.

To save lives, protect the environment and save small farms.

My goal for the second half of 2021 is to stop buying mass production meat.

I "officially" started my paid summer off yesterday. Our job for the summer is to source local food, beyond the farmer's market.

I am not ready to be vegetarian (my better half is), as I am not that fond of most vegetables. However, I plan to limit my meat buying to locally sourced non-factory meat.

I would rather pay more for meat, buy better quality meat and, subsequently, eat less meat.

We have largely done that with beer and cheese and eggs, so far.

Mass produced and subsidized meat is killing the planet with carbon dioxide. Tax it appropriately and consumption will tank.

  15. A few years ago my daughters in Sturgeon Bay decided to raise egg laying chickens. The one twin got tired of it and gave her hens to her sister with a family of 6. After a couple of more years she sold all the hens because they couldn't give away the eggs. Go figure.

We have been going back and forth about raising chickens.
So far, we have decided against it.

I guess this conversation should move to the food thread.

I'm the only patient my cardiologist has who, post bypass, he does not have on any prescriptions. I stopped eating critters and anything from them, eat good stuff (being vegitarian or vegan does not necessarily mean your diet is worth a damn) and take care of my body. It's actually easy.
Funny how doing something good for you can be good for the planet, and every last creature on it.
Oh yeah, my diet is a hell of a lot more interesting than it used to be.
    Allegedly.

  18. I'm about to take the final step into retirement and am considering participating in a study Rush is conducting on aging and diet. It's related to a Finnish study with the acronym "FINGER". The US acronym for the parallel program is "POINTER". I hope the combination of helping humanity and a structured assisted diet/fitness program will drive me to do right by my body.
Maybe it should move to the food thread, but the only folks in this forum lazier than we are are our ball sucking mods. Carry on!

Any updates on the Fire’s rebrand?

God knows the fans need something to look forward to because what’s on the field certainly isn’t it.

Boys, add some food references or GTFO! ;)

Really, I would like some announcement soon, just to break the monotony of the current malaise.

Although I have begun to "embrace the suck."
