Well, '20-'21 is now done and dusted and Wednesday are down. League 1 for '21-'22 is sorted, save determining the League 2 playoff winners - one from Bolton, Morecombe, Newport, and Forest Green Rovers - who will join Cheltenham and Cambridge in going up, and who will be joining Hull and Peterborough in being promoted out via the League 1 playoffs - one from Sunderland, Pompey, Lincoln City, and Blackpool.

I can't really say who I'd prefer to come up into the division, but of those wanting out, I'd think Sunderland going up would be the most helpful, in terms of getting a potentially strong team out of the competition; but I'd want Blackpool up, as playing Sunderland, Pompey, and Lincoln all have greater appeal.

Only two London away days (Wimbledon and Charlton) all year, which is something I always factor in when trying to sort my (when possible) annual trip over. And that's good news in and of itself - I'm counting on fans being back in, travel being allowed, and myself keenly scouring the fixtures lists when they come out in the summer.

It's been a shit conclusion to the season past, but I'm already excited for the season to come. Let Darren Moore get busy sorting his squad and getting on with it. I don't know who'll be staying and who'll be coming in, but I do know this: Wednesday will piss this division.

    Statement from the chairman:

Dejphon Chansiri club statement - News - Sheffield Wednesday (swfc.co.uk)

Pretty good statement from him, to my mind. Holds his hands up and takes responsibility. Backs Darren Moore. You had to know he would, but doing so within hours of relegation will put to bed quickly any speculation on that front. It sounds as though Chansiri's still quite 'involved' and motivated, which, with his enforced absence via the covid issue, had come under question. Very much a 'looking forward' statement, and all the better for that.

    Gonna be an interesting summer.

    Also, apology unaccepted.

And I'll never forgive DC for those hideous pinstripes.

That may sound a bit like a comment on League 1, but it's actually a standard trope amongst some groups of Wednesday fans that gets trotted out every summer. "We'll piss this league" is nothing more than a statement of positivity - whether it's genuinely believed or not. If anything, the worse things look, the more you'll hear it (which means it'll be said a lot over the next few months). Folks would be saying it if they'd stayed up, as well.

Frankly, it's been a very long time since any Wednesday fan actually expected to walk any division.

Say, mate, seeing as you're (apparently) over there, what's the typical Charlton fan's thoughts (if any) on Wednesday. I know some years back there seemed to be a bit of distaste amongst some Owls fans for some comments from Chris Powell (whom I've always liked) and there seemed a bit of bad blood between the clubs' fans - or at least from some Wednesday fans toward Charlton. Perhaps it was nothing and long since blown over, and I'm not trying to make anything of it, but is there any animus from Charlton toward Wednesday?

It rather surprised me at the time, because Charlton has always seemed a very 'friendly' club that most everyone tends to like. I've only been to the Valley a couple times, but I've certainly found it to meet that description.

Yeah, and I was being sarcastic.

I fully expect to be in League 2 by this time next season...

I'm actually Toronto based at the moment. But I've felt there's been a bit of toing and froing for both sides since the 2012 season (the season we both got promoted).
From what I can remember Wednesday fans took a dislike to Powelly because of the FA cup tie the following season. We won in a replay i think & Powell ended up hanging off the cross bar in front of the away fans. Wednesday didn't take well to it & we ended up playing (& losing) to your neighbors Sheff Utd in the next round.
Charlton fans were also a little peed off that you guys ended up with the points deduction this year rather than last year. Of course leading to our relegation. Think that's brought a bit of bad blood up again, so next seasons clashes will be interesting!

For me - I have a few Wednesday mates, so always look out for your scores. No distaste from myside that's for sure.

Think you might end up somewhere in between. Plenty of tosh in league 1.

    Cool.

It's always nice to meet other fans(of other teams) on here.

@Myshoe is a Miller fan and he's active on here as well.

Well, if I'd known you were being sarcastic, I'd've never repped that. For shame. Wednesday will piss this league, and you will eat those words ... er ... or at least rue confessing to their sarcasm.

HMS Piss the League is about to set sail, so pack your bags and get on board. You don't want to be stood on the pier watching whilst everyone else has a great time.

Stop that. **wags finger** Darren Moore has a strong reputation for spotting talent and knows this level. Given a summer to put his own squad together - even if on a shoestring - I have no doubts that Wednesday will be competitive in this division. I certainly didn't want them to go down, but I suspect this upcoming season will actually be more enjoyable than it would've been in the 2nd tier.

Yeah, well, beating Wednesday and losing to United are two foolproof ways to earn a Wednesdayite's animus.

The only thing I remember about that 5th round cup match v Charlton was just how incredibly shit Wednesday were for about the first half hour. It was televised over here. I was so stoked because, A) I didn't get to see Wednesday often back then, and B) it was a chance to get to a quarterfinal, against the pigs, who were still a lower division side, meaning that an FA Cup semifinal was distinctly plausible. How exciting was that?

Not very, to judge by their performance. Crikey, they were bad. I don't know that I've ever seen a professional football team look as awful as they did for most of the first half. I don't think they played a single ball on the deck for 20 minutes. They were better in the second half, and actually made a fist of it; but there was no doubt that Charlton were the more deserving - or perhap, less undeserving - side to advance.

Sam Hutchinson has triggered a one-year option on his contract, and will be an Owl for the upcoming League 1 campaign. There aren't many in the squad whose retention I'm bothered about, but Hutch is one. Good to know he's staying on.

Rumour going around he hasn't gotten a red card in league one and he wants to knock that off his bucket list...

Rhodes has signed on at Huddersfield. Obviously he was leaving Wednesday, and he's opted for his old club where he came to prominence by scoring boatloads some ten or so years back.

Never came good for him at Hillsborough, but good luck to him. I've always liked him.

Been up and down on him in the past but this season I really did come to appreciate him. Sad to see him go.

Being down on him hasn't been difficult. He will have cost Wednesday quite a bit in wages and he disappointed more often than not. Harsh on him, as Wednesday seldom played to his strengths, but the results just weren't there. But he put himself about, put in shifts when teammates did not, and carried himself well on and off the pitch. Watch an interview with Ross Wallace and then one with Jordan Rhodes ... you'll know which Scotsman I prefer.

I hope he pings 'em in like the old days at 'udders ... but that'll just make his failure at Wednesday that much more frustrating.
