If you could go back in time in your parenting of youth soccer, what would you have done differently.

    1. Make him try football freshman year.
    2. Change clubs 2 to 3 years ago
    3. Find a resource like this before joining first club to try to unravel the landscape.

I would have kept my youngest with her original club location (Sockers CL) and had her play with the boys until u11 - then moved to Campton United.

So overall - a few hicups but in general, she's a better person and player as a result of all her experiences.

I would have had my son switch from rec to our local club's little kid academy at U6 instead of U7. He learned so much more about ball skill there. The first couple years of rec U4 and U5 we got lucky with great coaches who had actually played college soccer. U6 his coach was terrible and had no idea how to run a practice. It was all about him and his son. It was a waste of a year looking back. After fall of U6 he didn't want to play soccer on the same team again, so he played t-ball that spring. Luckily he went back to soccer in the following fall and has stuck with it ever since.

1-I would have bounced once the numbers started shrinking in the club. Now, he has formed friendships and will be harder for him to leave.
2- Soccer camps were going to happen (darn you Covid)
3- Buy a more gas efficient car!

I put off new rear tires on our expedition and eventually stuffed it into a concrete sign and 2 trees on the way home from Soccer City. The roads were awful and there were 13 other accidents on that road that day alone. Would had put those tires on and had a paid off - very nice vehicle at this point in time.

2 years latter someone tank slapped us on the way to training in Geneva and that was our 2nd totaled vehicle.

May I ask - why would you make him try football?
