It's always been there, only that instead of being focused in an internal war, it's very widespread now. I think that a lot of variables are going in play, just to name a few: 1. There is no war as there was 10 years ago, people can focus more on other aspects of democracy and on the many shortcomings of the state. 2. In the previous presidency, even if it was not extraordinary, incomes and access to education and health improved; in the last two years these trends reversed. People can tell they were moving forward and now they're going backwards. 3. Duque's government seems to be oblivious to public opinion; he lives in an information bubble where everything is going his way, so he keeps pushing for unpopular measures and of lately, it seems that the protests are the only thing that will stop him. 4. Obviously, the opposition parties are pushing for these showings of force, and the government is taking the bait, pushing unpopular measures to the brim of revolt, then backing up, which in turn makes Duque look both weaker and more unpopular. The game is 2022 elections.

I think the situation in Colombia has deteriorated to such point like no point in recent history I think the Pandemic has truly exposed the failed state that Colombia is. When key roles are filled with bozos with zero experience it starts to show. I mean Ivan Duque and the whole election stinks of fraud and narcotrafficking money. what can we expect So not only was the Colombian economy entering a recession EVEN before the pandemic but the economy has tanked since and there is no real solution because we are in the hands of the people who puts us there in the same place. They locked everyone in, sold and stole everything and has not given anyone shit since the pandemic began I mean..people are at their breaking point because there is simply nothing else to lose Uribismo is done and they know that which is why i am afraid a coup will be attempted in order to replace a weak Duque
I am deeply disturbed by the brutal Colombian National Police (PNC) response to peaceful protests over the weekend. This is part of a disturbing pattern of excessive use of force, killings & human rights violations against protestors in Nov 2019, Sept 2020 & April-May 2021. https://t.co/zRzKwgRjr0— Rep. At least 19 people were killed and hundreds more injured in days of demonstrations across Colombia. Protests against a tax overhaul tied to the pandemic have morphed into a national outcry over rising poverty, unemployment and inequality. https://t.co/204vTzzT7A— The New York Times (@nytimes) May 4, 2021
