TFC sign a DP today. Wish we had that news article title. https://www.torontofc.ca/post/2021/04/26/toronto-fc-sign-yeferson-soteldo-designated-player
According to Atlanta fans on twitter, Philly played such a bad game of soccer in their CCL match up that it was a big set back for American soccer or just soccer in general. Philly beat Atlanta in Atlanta 3-0. Apparently, Atlanta held back 3 or 4 u23's from olympic qualifying so that they could focus on this CCL.
Also in CCL last night, Cruz Azul dominated TFC. Made TFC look like a bad team (maybe they are this year?).
closer to home, Chicharito is off to a flying start, MLS player of the week honors for two weeks straight. the last goal of his hat-trick this past weekend was particularly impressive. hopefully he cools off by 5/29.
MLS HQ loves it, great for ratings, AEG too, I’m sure those guys give Fish some shit like “when’re you gonna spend a little money bud and quit riding our coattails!?” Their DP moves have occasionally been a spectacular bust and sometimes they’ve won them titles. they’re definitely adding to the excitement bringing in players like Beckham, Keane, Gerard, Zlatan, Chicharito, etc., and raising interest and occasionally, quality. from what I could tell, last year (at $6 million/season and a $9.5 million transfer fee) Chicharito was a total bust but so far this year he’s showing what he’s capable of. Unfortunately he’s with LAG so I have to hope he turns out to be a complete flop.
I miss Patrick shoes. I normally wear a EE width, and Patricks are one of the few brands that didn't make my feet go numb. That said, I really hate wearing cleats and am happy that most of my games these days are on turf...
Man United vs. Liverpool delayed by anti-Glazer protests on pitch at Old Trafford (espn.com) I can understand fans wanting Joel Glazer out after all that super league money grab stupidity, but I was really looking forward to the second leg of this weekends' double-header...
The ESL was just the final straw. The Glazers have essentially taken up a massive debt to purchase the club and used the club profits to pay down some of the debt instead of investing into the team. Then a few years ago they essentially piles on that debt onto season ticket holders. It has been a shitshow over there ever since the Glazers took over.
Good job Inter on winning the scudetto! Inter Milan win first Serie A title in 11 years Fans don't seem to care much about Covid spreading at the Piazza Del Duomo in Milan do they?
Went to an Inter game, and the Duomo, while stuck in Milan in the week after 9/11. Warm spot in my heart for both, doubly so after seeing these photos.
I moved there exactly one month after 9/11 and came back in early 2005. It was cool to live and work there for a while then it got a little old....
They were popular when I left and it looks like it’s still there. I heard it went independent even though Blockbuster went under... Viale Papiniano, 8, 20123 Milan, Lombardia, Italy http://www.blockbustervillage.it/
Matt Doyle has made a nice summary of what the Glazers have done to screw the pooch at ManU I’m trying to understand the genesis of the protests vs. the Glazers:- took on massive debt to purchase the club in the first place- used team profits to pay off that debt (slowly) instead of reinvesting directly into the squad(Cont’d)— Matthew Doyle (@MattDoyle76) May 2, 2021
