LOL! That sounds a lot like how PSU has been playing this season.

Do these announcers know we can see the game? It isn’t radio. We’re watching too. We don’t need a play by play.

I don’t know how USC didn’t beat Ole Miss. those coaches aren’t sleeping tonight thinking about all of those missed chances.

    Especially after going up 2-0.
Ole Miss is a surprising confident side; you could see it in their faces.
USC had a penalty early in the 1st OT and it was blocked; that was the game right there.

USC didn't make it through? Oh dear, how unfortunate. I shall keep that school in my thoughts. :whistling:

The announcing is awful. They read from a narrative that repeats the same players over and over even if they are playing poorly. The lack of attention to detail in terms of names etc is bad. Also ends up being all about the “home” team. The tournament itself gets a pass from Covid but the announcers need to do a lot better to promote the game as opposed to doing PSAs for certain schools and PR for certain players irrespective of actual play.

All 5 ACC teams moved to the 16.
    I feel bad for WVU.
20-1 shot advantage including 6-1 SOG advantage, but they lose on a PK.
It's a stark reminder that in soccer, the best team loses occasionally.

Unfortunately, 3 of the 4 B1G teams lost in the 2nd round.
Only Penn State advances with a 2-0 win over # 16 Vanderbilt to face # 1 Florida State.
    Yikes!!

May 5th is going to be a full day of college woso.
Some really great matches; it should be fun.

No argument there. Soccer is cruel that way, although it does give hope to the losing team and its supporters who can at least take solace in the game stats proving that they were the better team even if they lost... in spite of the fickle Soccer Gods.

A common trick of the Soccer Gods is to pick a game of a superior team where the opposing keeper becomes a ball magnet and she doesn't even have to move (much less dive onto the ground) to corral the incoming balls. Or the Soccer Gods may command the weather gods to make the surface slippery taking away a huge advantage for the superior athletes. Or perhaps arranging for nearby lightning strikes to cancel or postpone the game such that motivation and skills have been lost to hunger or fatigue. Or maybe causing the opposing coach to craft an invisible bus parking lot in the penalty area, or sending either clearly biassed referees, or at least incompetent ones.

My all time favorite Soccer God intervention happened in the NCAA second round in 2016 where Santa Clara had gone over to Stanford to take a statistical shellacking. Stanford kindly obliged with 31 shots (14 on frame) but the ball magnet trick was working well and Santa Clara keeper had 14 saves going into the last 2 minutes of the second overtime. SC launched a long diagonal pass into the box where a lone forward chested it down across the penalty mark toward the right. The CB came up to defend as the Soccer Gods were deciding to pull the slippery card. Meanwhile the left back was positioning herself to block a probable shot and the keeper was anticipating the trajectory. Then... the defender challenging the SC forward fell down in an awkward tackle attempt and the left back about 5 yards away with wonderful balletic precision at the very same instant also fell to the ground leaving the forward a clear shot at the goal from about 12 yards out. The ball was struck cleanly but right at the keeper. However, the left back (lying on her back) saw the shot coming and desperately raised her leg to try to block the shot, but ended up deflecting it away from the lunging keeper just inside the right goal post.

    True story.

Very good points SH as always. That makes me feel bad for Stanford, and they are one of my least favorite teams.
FSU had one almost that bad in a less critical situation in 2018.
FSU went to play Miami in the last regular season game. We dominated possession, shots, corners etc.
Their keeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce (currently with the OL Reign) played a great game. It also didn't help that our finishing in the final third was not the best.
The game went to OT. At this point they had 0 shots, 0 corners and nothing resembling an offensive attack. I don't remember the details but they got a counter opportunity down the right side and the girl hit a cross to the opposite side of the goal and a player ran onto it and headed it into the net.
    MIami wins 1-0.
Shots 25-1, Corners 11-0., Saves 7 for UM and 0 for FSU. UM 1 FSU 0
Fortunately it was the regular season and FSU went on the win the ACCT with the announcers incessantly talking about us being the 7th seed.
Fate smiled on us as we won the natty that year.
Again, not as good as your story, but it is very true and very recent.

Only 2 of the 5 Pac 12 teams make it in...Washington and UCLA.

Sooo just a theory-- but seems that some of the conferences that did NOT play in the fall (Pac 12 and B1G) haven't done as well moving forward...thoughts/theories?

I know my DD (Pac 12) hadn't played a game in over a year and two months (crazy!) until Pac 12 conference started this Feb. (let alone being able to train together "normally" & properly due to quarantine rules)
It does seem the conferences that were able to play in the fall and then have the spring games leading into the dance- have more consistency, chemistry, not to mention fitness, etc??
It makes sense. Hoping this fall we see some more normalcy with ALL the conferences!!

Good luck to those moving forward!! Some exciting match ups coming up!!

100% agree with you on this.
The same seemed to hold true in the women's volleyball D1 tournament.
Teams that played in the Fall and had some Spring matches (Big 12, SEC, and ACC), all had good tournament results.
In Women's VB, the Big Ten and Pac 12 usually dominate, but this year they only played in the Spring.
The last time a final didn't have a Pac 12 or Big 10 team was 1995. Wow!!

Wait a minute, we are only in the 3rd round y'all! My Bruins started a little lackluster but they'll get better as the tournament moves forward. They have arguably the best offense in the entire country and experienced seniors that I've been watching since I graduated in 2018. Don't count them out just yet! :p

I know you're joking, but it was just a general observation.
Of course, any team can still win, and I'm hoping PSU can knock off FSU.

I hope all remaining teams play to their capabilities and that there are no injuries. Of course I want my team to win, but that does not always happen :)

Just looked at your roster. Do you know if any of your seniors are coming back for another year?
If not, in your opinion, will losing Abello, Tagliaferri, Schnurr and Coffey deeply affect your chances on the national level next year?
I remember Abello and Tagliaferri from 18. Y'all outplayed us in the first half. The second half was a different matter. Much respect. As I'm sure you know Mark and Erica have coached together quite a bit.
p.s. Did y'all lose anyone who would have been there in the fall, but chose to move on?
We only lost one, albeit an AA CB in Malia Berkely. Not crying b/c UNC lost 6 between injury and moving on due to the pandemic etc.

Yes, all except Schnurr; she is leaving. The other three have informed the staff that they will be returning.
PSU will be stacked top to bottom next year; there is an incoming 5-star freshman (she is already with the team, but have not seen her on the pitch yet).
PSU did not lose anyone after the Fall of 2020.

I'm hoping one of our best defenders starts in this next match (Kate Weisner) she was expected to be back from injury by this time for the tourney, but I have not seen or heard anything yet.
If PSU's defense can gel next season, they could make a deep run.

PSU should be extra tough next year. Definitely in the natty convo. Beat FSU and you are in the convo this year.
Good luck, but not too much.

I fail to see what you are referring to. I simply said, given that most of their seniors are coming back, they should be very good and in the natty convo.
Heck being in the16 is in the convo. Beat FSU and they are deep into that convo.

I was able to watch PSU beat Vanderbilt live last weekend. They look awfully tough. I haven't seen FSU play live in a while but if anyone beats the PSU team I saw Sat that will be quite the feat (feet? :) ).

    Question.
GSU plays PSU on GoHeels.com at 3 p.m. I will be at work.
If I wanted to watch a replay, is that possible? How?
