Women's Volleyball had every single match on one of ESPN's platforms and people were complaining that they didn't have announcers for every match in the 1st and 2nd round. LOL!
I'll add a poll after the Sweet 16 matches. Also, I'll post the results after each round. I'm happy to report that all 4 B1G teams have advanced to the 2nd round. Ohio State is still in progress, but with a hefty lead; they play Santa Clara in Round 2.
It’s not good enough, but every match is available to be streamed and is supposed to have commentators (every match I’ve watched has). Unfortunately, they’re on random websites but you can find them all at NCAA.com. Some are being hosted by the host school’s streaming service, some through the NCAA. Some commentators better than others, some facilities only one camera angle and no replay ability, but others have it. Not nearly good enough, but a start.
I agree that the lack of tv coverage is ridiculous! We’ve been streaming the games, but it’s unreliable and often glitchy. Who determines that ncaa vb and baseball/softball receive significantly more airtime than soccer? Is it ESPN or the NCAA? Is there a way to communicate dissatisfaction with the situation to the decision makers??
Curious if anyone tried watching any of the games live? I debated driving out to Wake Med park last night to watch Penn St, but wasn't sure how tight they locked down the fields (it's a pretty open soccer park with a cross country trail surrounding it).
If I am not mistaken ESPN only has the rights to the Semis and finals for women’s and men’s soccer. They aren’t responsible for streaming early round games, but I guess that means you could say they are responsible for why vb, softball, and baseball receive more coverage.
I had the same thought. There were parking lots on either side and it looked like anyone could just drive into them and watch from the sidelines. Although, who knows if they had security watching for that or if there was a vehicle inspection point for entry into the facility area.
Currently, some of the games are on ESPN3 -- which is a pay service, whereas all the other games appear to be free.
The games that are ESPN+ are being streamed by host schools who have deals or their leagues have deals with them. ESPN is not producing any if those streams.
I'm happy the UCLA IOWA match is tomorrow on ESPN3 which for some reason I have access to(shhh don't tell my cable provider)
I thought all 1st and 2nd round tournament matches were supposed to be free on ESPN3, but I could be mistaken.
Not by me, at last no using the NCAA-provided links. How are you getting access? Maybe I am missing something.
Looking forward to UCLA vs Iowa. StatBroadcast link: https://stats.statbroadcast.com/statmonitr/?id=349932 Wow! Iowa with a goal in the 6th min. leading 1-0. Sorry @McSkillz
WTF did I just watch? A last second header by Kennedy Faulknor was saved, and we go into the half down 1-0.#NCAASoccer | #GoBruins— UCLA Women's Soccer (@UCLAWSoccer) April 30, 2021
Based on such adversity against powerful Iowa, I predict we will take this momentum and take this to the end and win the Natty!
Huge mistake by Enneking (Iowa GK) to allow the first goal through her legs with 5 minutes left. It gave UCLA all the momentum, energy, and belief they needed to win, and deflated the Hawkeyes. Congrats to UCLA for fighting till the end. It would have been bad for the tournament to lose them this early. I don't think people realize how good of a team Iowa has morphed into this season. They are a well-coached team, and their players are very disciplined defensively. Iowa's shortcomings are that they are young team and lack depth. They don't have the offensive to win a big tournament, but they can make teams look bad. It took them a while to figure out their identity this season and gain confidence; they will be a challenging team in the future.
Yeah and boy did they make us look terrible today. If we didn't make that goal, we weren't going to win. Crickets chirping on our bench. They did everything possible to park the bus and play in their own half with a lone forward out there and we were off frame so many times, we played terrible in the final 3rd and thankfully after 1000 tries, we managed to get one in and use that momentum to get another one before over time. I don't know what it is with UCLA. They can look damn near scary lots of times, but sometimes they play awful and have no answers when they are down a goal.
Just here to add in on the complaints on the streaming and announcing. Unbelievable. but until the players and coaches start complaining and bringing it to light nothing will change. It only took hours for the ncaa to spring into action to change thing after the women’s basketball players started speaking up. Do women’s soccer players not know? Not care? And that some games are at parks is insanity. How many ncaa basketball games were at Rec centers? lastly. We need a National seeding system every year. The west coast gets royally screwed playing one another. Regional seeding for the most popular sport in the world is ridiculous. Watching teams from different regions play each other is refreshing and the exact reason for a National tournament. Why coaches and players don’t complain about this is crazy to me.
