He's been one of our worst performers for many matches now. I can barely remember when he was in good form. Edit: That thruball he just played to Auba is the one thing in his game that he still seems to be able to do from time to time. But that's not enough.
Looked too similar to the Capoue challenge not to. But yeah, this ref really wants to be the center of attention. Not a fan either.
FT 2-1. We play pretty SHIT football lately, but we are EXTREMELY lucky to go back home with that scoreline.
What a bizarre game. Emery did a great job of reminding us why he failed here, Arteta did a great job demonstrating why he's actively failing.
Allegri is going back to Juve, and Hasenhuttl is not that good. Gazump Spurs in the pursuit of Ten Hag, and we could be a Europa League team again within 3 years. Don't, and I could see this being a 5 year + stint with no European football.
They wanted Nagelsmann but with him off to Bayern they are supposedly looking at Roberto Martinez, Ragnick & Allegri in addition to Ten Hag. I wouldn't mind us looking at Ragnick & Ten Hag if we were to part ways with Arteta.
watching highlights . . . that handball to negate the penalty was . . . eh. there is legitimacy there but iffy. how in the holy ******** is that a 2nd yellow on ceballos? dude slid in on ceballos and he tripped on it. WTF is that bullshit.
First bad run of next season and he is gone. The only reason he hasn't been fired already is because there are no fans in the stadium.
If we can get ten Hag or Rangnick, by all means fire Arteta now. If not, I think it’s unlikely to find someone that’s going to make a big difference. Also, Edu will have to go at the same time. Does anybody think either of those names are possible?
Hiring Overmars (whom has expressed an interest in coming back to Arsenal) as DoF would likely help with Ten Hag. Ragnick supposedly turned down Chelsea before they snagged Tuchel so im not sure what we could offer that would entice him.
Some of his misplaced passes are exactly that, misplaced passes, but I get a sense that with some of the passes he is playing the ball to space for a teammate to run on to and his teammates are getting caught flat footed, waiting for the ball to be played to feet. It happened at least twice today, once with Chambers and the other time I believe was with Ceballos. You would think these communication issues would be worked out by now.
man, i feel you. taken as a whole, i cannot argue about deserving it. but on a play like that? it feels not much different than the play balbuena was carded on.
Yeah that's what I was thinking while was walking off the pitch. Actually he was arguing aggressively with the HR and if I was UEFA I might tack another game or two onto his ban for that. In any case, this seems to almost force Arteta to bring Xhaka back to MF, probably in a pairing with Partey, which IIRC wasn't too bad not long ago. And also, in my mind anyway, it would seem to argue for Cedric coming back to LB. But there seems to be more going on with Cedric that's keeping him out of the XI (on either side of the pitch) than we're aware of.
If Tierney is ready, he obviously comes in at left back on Thursday. If not I think they have to go with Saka at left back. They are going to need as many attacking players on the pitch as possible, to overcome the one goal deficit, and with 10 assists in all competitions last season Saka demonstrated that he can contribute to the offense from left back. Then Arsenal can start a front three of Aubameyang, Martinelli, and Pepe, all of whom have goals in them, with Smith-Rowe or Odegaard in behind.
I think we are very very lucky that Emery manages scared. We've seen the movie before, but if they kept attacking it could have been a massacre. Arteta is still a clown.
What about.... ------------- PEA/Laca -------------- Martinelli ---------------- Pepe/Saka ------- ESR ---------- OM ----------- --------------- Partey ------------------ KT/Saka - Gabi - Holding - Cedric
That's an interesting take... the offensive mindset. But when it comes to fullbacks, I tend to think of them more as defenders than attackers. And since we absolutely need to keep Villareal from scoring an away goal, I'd favor leaning towards a true defender at LB. Plus I've been all but sold on Saka being best on the right side of the forward line. Thus my thinking about bringing Cedric back at LB. That said, I don't expect my thinking is anything like Mikel's thinking (we can all be thankful for that?!). Plus the fact that Cedric has been MIA for so long makes me think he's not likely to come back anytime soon, or if we see him it'll be more likely at Newcastle for rotational purpsoses. We. Shall. See.
