I think they will be going hard after premier league. Otherwise, they wouldn’t let NHL go. Without premier league, they would have nothing from January to September since the only big things they have are NFL and Notre Dame football with their other events being once a year or every four years occurrences.

I'm fine if NBC wants to retain their rights to EPL.

I just wish they wouldn't shift most of the content, so as to maximize the size of their digital 'cock.

I'm obviously biased in my views on the value & performance of traditional TV+DVR, but maybe just maybe they might reconsider their plans to scrap NBCSN entirely??

Yesterday's game on Peacock in favor of 4-5 hours or whatever it was of auto auctions...someone out there has a boatload of money to be buying up all these damn cars.

Maybe it's all the people who were playing poker 10 years ago? :ROFLMAO:

It's definitely a money thing. They can sell more subscriptions by putting live content behind a paywall and then run commercials every few minutes on NBCSN when either show probably doesn't get noticeable ratings. Since "everything's streaming" it doesn't matter to that crowd...does it?

But hey, at least we got Rebecca Lowe.

Yeah. But I get the sense her time is coming to an end.

She's absolutely terrific in what she does. None of her replacements can hold a candle.

But I think she's probably a bit burned out, especially having to live bicoastally, when she's probably wishing she could be with her kids every day.

Her time has already been cut in recent years, and I figure it's going to zero one of these days, perhaps at the end of the current rights contract, a year from now?

That will be a sad day in my book. But I'll just add that to the demise of NBCSN, etc.

NBCSN TV has gone away (split sreen) from the NUFC-AFC match in order to cover the mayhem at Old Trafford.

I get it that the latter is a big story. BUT it sure would be nice if I could find a stream of the match I want to watch which doesn't show us in a tiny split-screen with no audio commentary. Alas no.

    Sad stuff, all around.

I didn't see the match, but judging by your post, I'm surprised they didn't throw it to Peacock or even "exclusive on the NBCSN app."

Would another channel like CNBC or USA have been an option?

The Old Trafford situation developed during first half of NUFC-AFC. It caught everyone by surprise, not least of whom the security team at the stadium :p

So NBC's production team would have to have quick & easy mechanisms to move the match to another platform. Which apparently they don't have or possibly just didn't really think it was that important. Understandably our match was 2nd or 3rd fiddle, at least to the general viewing public.

But to the fans of the 2 teams I'd venture to say that most of them were annoyed at the least. That their coverage was all but abandoned for: 10 mins in 1T, then HT, then 10 more mins in 2T (missing a beautiful game-clinching 2nd goal).

An easy ready-made solution would have been if Peacock carried every game in it's original international-feed format (without the NBCSN studio production)... the way that the old overflow PL Extra channels used to... or even Gold IIRC.

Oh well, I guess it could've been worse. They could've cut away to the mayhem for even longer. But I would hope that maybe it gives some of the NBC production team some thoughts about what to do if/when something like this happens again... to do some contingency planning.

ESPN switches games to different channels all the time, but that's probably planned for. When they have basketball games at 7pm and 9pm, it's almost a certainty that the 9pm game won't start on the designated channel.

Unless if they're worried about cutting into subscriptions for TV channels.

But even then, they could probably make it so you'd have to unlock the international feed via your TV provider login info.

I can't imagine it affecting ratings too much.

At least they showed it though. I can't imagine how FSW/FSC would have done it.

In one of these media threads we were talking recently about streams that are way behind actual live... 1 minute or more. And I have to say that NBCSports.com is doing that right now. It's 58 secs behind my cable tv dvr which itself is probably already 10 secs behind true live.

Other streamers aren't quite this bad, so I sure hope NBC is going to work on improving this delay for next season.

And while they're at it, could they give some thought to improving the speed and ease of transitions from a previous game stream to the next game?

I missed the first minute or two of the Arsenal-WBA match because I was watching the pre-game that came at the end of the West Ham-Everton match. Both streams were on the same platform: NBCSports.com. And I do realize that they were also aired on separate TV channels: NBCSN & NBC. But had I been watching on TV the switch would've taken 1-2 secs tops.

However on NBCSports.com it just jumped abruptly to ads at the end of stream 1 and I wasn't paying close enough attention until a few mins later it said "coverage concluded", then I had to wait for more ads to play before I could see the game on stream 2. That's a rough, clunky, user-unfriendly transition, and one that caused me to miss a few minutes of action, which for a serious fan is not really tolerable.

Thanks for looking into this NBC. I'm sure you're listening. ;)

Edit: Even within one stream they managed to botch the transition after HT. Screen said "coverage will resume shortly" then all of a sudden I found myself watching the second half at around 46:00. Nice.

Yeah, I think the days when we could set-up notifications on our phone for updates on matches are over.

Sometimes when my stream is over a minute behind I exit and re-enter the stream and I get a bit closer to live. Most streams seem to be at least 30 seconds behind though.

My NBCSports.com stream of today's AFC-CFC match crapped for 1-2 mins and once again it did it right when a goal happened. I came back to see the aftermath of Chelsea & Pulisic equalize. The only silver lining is that the goal was ruled out for offside. Phew!

But man this just exemplifies the drop-off in quality & reliability that surrounds streaming, compared to the traditional delivery model. I have no idea what the cause was, whether it was more on their side or my side. But that's the last thing that an average viewer or fan wants to know about, especially during a tense game. It should just work reliably, like cable TV has generally done for decades.

I understand the myriad of complicated factors involved in achieving this, but I can only hope that the streaming providers will spend a good amount of their effort trying to make it a much more reliable experience.

For example, even if my problem was something to do with my old laptop or my own internet/router, it would sure be nice if the UI would have some sort of metric that would warn me if the speed & quality of my streaming session was marginal. And maybe even better than that they could perhaps help me diagnose where the problem lies or what to focus on.

I moved and I now have Cox, which includes Peacock. I paid for the Premier League part of Gold, but I didn't pay for Peacock.

NBCSN has both of tomorrow's games (Aston Villa vs Everton and Man United vs. Liverpool). The Friday game (Newcastle vs. Man City) is on Peacock. Saturday has two games on NBCSN (Burnley vs. Leeds and Southampton vs. Fulham), the FA Cup Final at 12:15 P.M. Eastern when NBC sometimes shows the game, and Brighton vs. West Ham after that on Peacock. Sunday has three games on NBCSN (Crystal Palace vs. Aston Villa, Tottenham vs. Wolverhampton, and West Brom vs. Liverpool). West Brom vs. Liverpool is also on Peacock and is followed by Everton vs. Sheffield United only on Peacock. After Sunday every club will have two games left. There are four games on Tuesday May 18, six games on Wednesday May 19, and all clubs end on Sunday May 23 at 11:00 A.M. USA Eastern. Titles in Spain and France could be decided on the last day. La Liga has every club end May 23 at 12:00 P.M. Eastern, and Ligue 1 has every club end May 23 at 3:00 P.M. Eastern.

A few days later and a little comparison/perspective...

Now I'm watching FA Cup Final on ESPN+ and the stream is flawless, plus they allow me to rewind the live stream as much as I want. Same laptop, same Internet... the big variable that changed was the streaming platform (NBC->ESPN)

IMHO, NBC and all the other sports streamers should copy ESPN in what they do. That technology acquisition they made several years back has proved to me spot on.

And...you didn't have to go to another stream for the ESPN FC stuff long after the match ended.

    Today's schedule:

    1pm:
    Everton-Wolves
    Newcastle-Sheffield
    Spurs-Villa

    2pm:
    Palace-Arsenal

    3:15
    Burnley-Liverpool (Peacock and NBCSN)
    West Brom - West Ham

Everyone must watch the same Everton-Wolves pregame, regardless of what 1pm game they want to watch.

Compare that to NFL Sunday Ticket's streaming version. There's usually eight or nine games at 1pm. Some are CBS and some are Fox. The appropriate pregame show is simulcast across all streams, then they send you to your game.

    Example:
LA Chargers at Chicago Bears (FOX)
Philadelphia Eagles at Minnesota Vikings (FOX)

The Fox pregame show would be on both those streams.

    Peacock gonna Peacock.

Someone wanna explain why ManUnited are on USA tomorrow 10am, while Soton-WestHam is on NBCSN at that time?

The first match after Ronaldo's return to Manchester, and it's not on the flagship channel??

Even if it's because more households get USA than NBCSN, that still seems an odd decision.

Oh, I just realized the plan/rumor that they're phasing out NBCSN within the year... could that be a factor? Still seems an odd decision to me.

Yes they are trying to get people used to USA being the new home for the main 10am eastern game, its not a rumor NBCSN is dead before the end of the year officially.

    Is NBC Peacock down?

Can't start NOR-ARS match or any other Peacock only match starting now 10am ET.

Edit: Actually there are four 10am matches that show as having already started, and yet 3 out of 4 produce errors... only one (Brentford-Brighton) is actually working.

After missing the first 12' of the Arsenal-Norwich match, I found that it was actually working/streaming via the NBC Sports app, but still not via Peacock.

I wonder if that is how NBC usually does this? i.e. anything on Peacock is also available via NBC Sports? (I didn't think so) Or perhaps this was their way of scrambling to fix a failed Peacock platform, by switching it over to NBC Sports??

Ah... the quality & reliability of streaming...

This sh1t was virtually unheard of with conventional broadcast/cable TV.

They just announced that all games are on NBC Sports app due to technical difficulties.

I hope they have more technical difficulties from now on.

I presume you mean that they announced that on one of the broadcast TV channels like USA. Nice, but wouldn't it be more useful to put up a message on the Peacock app that instructs us to use the NBC Sports app instead?

Most of us Gooners missed the first 10-15 mins until someone shared the news that it was working on NBC Sports.

Also, what is the point of having these fragmented NBC streaming apps?

    Yup. USA.

And they keep it fragmented because it makes it harder to pirate I suppose.
