Wow.... 9 goals in his 1st ~1100 minutes in the Championship. Very impressive... and that goal?... simply fantastic. If all goes well we will have two dogs in the promotion playoffs: Dike for Barnsley and CCV for Bournemouth. Both have made big impacts for their clubs since arriving.
Looking at the table and the form of Reading I'd give them an excellent chance to make the playoffs. Reading are 6 points down with three to play. Reading basically need to run the table, and that looks highly unlikely. A single point from Barnsley would mean Reading need 7 to pass them.
A few of observations: Remember when American PBP commentators would be criticized for applying a hockey approach to calling a soccer match? Here is exhibit A for how a descriptive PBP philosophy is not unique to North America. That cross into the box was comical. Dike can take turds and turn them into bricks made out of gold.
That's an awesome goal but I really just want to see him run through a bunch of whiney Central American and Mexican defenders like they are bowling pins this coming summer and fall.
The match commentary is also available without video, so it needs to be that descriptive since it's essentially doubling as a radio broadcast.
This. This is what "moneyball" is designed to do and would be the most satisfying storyline IMO. Anyone can go to a big club and do Big Club Things but very few get to actually write their name in club lore like Dike has a chance to do.

Gotta love around 0:10 when Dike starts to move toward the goal, bumping into a defender on his blind side, and that defender immediately makes the decision that he'd better go get on the ball rather than track that particular man. (Granted, the entire defense did not exactly cover itself with glory, but that's not Dike's problem.)
That was great, watching Dike pick up the spare as he cut through, and I'm hoping with @RossD there may be strikes ahead. It's like he's rolling a Ten-pin ball on a duckpin lane. Now I'm trying to picture Dike picking up the 7-10 split.
I think that's the majority opinion, but not everyone agrees, and it's not the same every year. Plus, the teams rarely play one another, so there's usually not much more than the eye test and aggregate budgets to make the arguments.
Only by the English. You'll never guess what Italians think is the best 2nd league in the world. In all seriousness, it's BY FAR the most lucrative.
Some clarification on this — Daryl Dike's loan to Barnsley expires on May 31, but the Lions have the right to recall starting May 4.Barnsley plays its final regular season match on May 8, and the Championship final (for promotion) is slated for May 29. https://t.co/iYxwArq2qW— Julia Poe (@byjuliapoe) April 24, 2021
They have little sporting incentive -- and zero financial incentive -- to recall him early. He's already going for a chunk of change. If he scores the winning goal that puts Barnsley into the Premier League, he's going for a lot more. The 4/5/6 or whatever regular season games in that time are of little importance for Orlando in comparison.
I thought in Dane's interview that he said the Orlando recall option was based upon Dike's playing time at Barnsley. I think it's fair to say Daryl's gotten more than enough PT to satisfy Orlando so they can't recall him before the end of May.
