Miami will be facing sanctions soon for fielding 4 DPs during the 2020 year. No word on a punishment yet for Miami, which illegally fielded four DPs in 2020. MLS says that sanctions are on the way.— Sam Stejskal (@samstejskal) April 16, 2021 Guess Beckham isn’t as immune to rules as he used to be....
I'm betting we won't see Galvan for the first month or so. We're now past the roster compliance date and we still have one too many internationals. But Galvan is injured and if he goes on the Injury List he won't count towards our total number. But he misses a minimum of 6 games if he goes on the IL. By then we're probably betting we'll have one of the green cards done.
If we have to move some of the international players, I wouldn't mind seeing Wilson go - even if some of his long diagonal passes are nice - I would rather see Trusty play more sand develop. I also think Mezquida, though a good player, could be expendable (I would like to see Basset and Galvan get more playing time that Mezquida might otherwise have). I also wonder if Shinyashiki isn't as good as Rubio and if we could trade him. Again, I think Rubio is a good player, but his work rate and attitude sometimes rub me the wrong way. I would also like to see Traore, and Yapi get some minutes this year. I am also hoping we get to see Mayaka eventually (although that would be more likely if Acosta gets sold to Europe, or there is a center mid injury).
I doubt anyone is being released/moved at this point. I know some players are working on green cards which will handle the issue.
I hope Austin underestimates us as much as the Austin American-Statesman did this morning, talking about how the road gets easier for Austin this week going to Colorado, a team that didn’t make the playoffs in 2020.
When they really meant barely made the playoffs thanks to ppg average and didn't really go anywhere (other than the Twin Cities) in them. Speaking of which I like that metro area but glad I'm not there today. Also I think an Austin match thread needs to have alright, alright, alright, incorporated somehow. Love their tree themed badge (live oak?) btw. Okay, googled it, it memorializes the Treaty Oak which is a live oak and I typed that part before googling.
Except that if the league had ranked teams just by total points the Rapids still would have made the playoffs, just as the 8 seed instead of the 5 seed.
Since there hasn't been enough news on this free website today: #Rapids96 injury news: Braian Galvan has an ankle injury he sustained in the preseason scrimmage against SKC. Prior to that his OTHER ankle was injured. I was not given a timeline for his return to availability.— Matt Pollard (@LWOSMattPollard) April 20, 2021 No players who were international last year have obtained domestic status. Philip Mayaka is Generation Adidas and counts as an international. It's my understanding the club is compliant via him being loaned to Colorado Springs.— Matt Pollard (@LWOSMattPollard) April 20, 2021
The switchbacks have a shirt sponsor: ❄️ Iced out 😎#SwitchbacksFC pic.twitter.com/L7nrMq8Nln— Switchbacks FC (@SwitchbacksFC) April 22, 2021 The Rapids? Do not.
The Transamerica deal was first negotiated by the new local office in 2015. Then tied to Tim Howard the national office agreed on extending it through Howards contract (2016-2019). The team got it extended for an additional year in 2020 (don't know if that was the local office again or the bigger national push). Apparently TransAmerica is out now though, and nobody has taken their place. A notable failure by KSE.
This is tough and I wonder if the pandemic made it harder on both sides to negotiate and for the Rapids to then find another jersey sponsor. The main concern I have about the lack of a jersey sponsor is how it impacts the Rapids' ability to pay transfer fees and/or DP salaries. Or is this all dependent on selling some of the young players - Vines, etc., and then using that money for a transfer fee and salary?
Last Saturday Vines was out (as was Abubakar) and Fraser opted to use Acosta at left back rather than Beitashour. What happens if/wehn both Vines and Acosta get called up the Nats for the Gold Cup? Beitashour starts at LB and Warner in midfield? Left backs always seem to be an issue as there are very few who are good to great. So they're at a premium. With Vines a probability to go to Europe in the next nine months or so, I wonder what the long terms plan is to fill his spot?
We are one, of several teams (surprising to me) with just a single Designated Player on roster. Not sure if this proves anything.
I'm guessing the fact that most people in their local market will only see them on TV twice this season (and only if they watch the Spanish stations) had a lot to do with it. Not much point in advertising on jerseys if nobody can see them.
If they couldn't land a lucrative, multi-year shirt sponsor deal, then ok, they couldn't do it. But given that, why not then make a short-term deal with some low-hanging fruit? Get a local brand on there for a small amount of money. Or put the logo of the Colorado Fourteeners Initiative on there and make it just a charity thing. Maybe the league has standards you have to follow for shirt sponsors?
They do, there's some minimum amount that has to be met. Though the charity idea is a good one, you'd think the league could find a way to allow that.
I too like the idea of a charity shirt sponsor. Raise awareness, etc....that being said...Do we really see any charity going on the rapids jersey, other than Kroenke Charities?
Mr Kroenke has much more to worry about than shirt sponsors today. Thousands protested outside of Emirates Stadium before, during, and after today’s match versus Everton calling for Stan’s head. Not good scenes outside the stadium.
SKC is wearing a charity, The Victory Project, on their shirts this year but it is a charity, I think, of main sponsor Children’s Mercy.
