Tannenwald is reporting that rumor as well. Looks like if we sign him he wouldn’t be here til the end of summer though.

Is Bueno a replacement for Martinez? There are rumors that other teams have enquired about him.

Feyenoord would likely be a really attractive proposition for Jamiro given he grew up in Rotterdam.

Looks like we're going to lose two key midfielders in Monteiro and Martinez.

Wouldn't be surprised if the Union trade him within the league. Likely destination LAFC for a truckload of Garber Buck$ and possibly a player.

what is anthony fontana's contract status for next season?

and how do philly fans feel curtin has handled his development?

as a usmnt fan, im kinda disappointed that he broke out last year and only played very sparsely this season. he only got 2 minutes in the conference final despite philly missing 11 players. would like to see fontana go elsewhere if possible

I look forward to next year when the MLS media ignore the Union again even after they finish top 3 in the East for the 4th straight year.

The Union have the most points in the league over the past three seasons.....

He's not good enough, period. He got on a hot streak for a few games last season. He's not able to sustain that kind of form over 90 minutes game and game out. The Union have more talented young players who have forced their way ahead of him as well.

It's not up to Curtin as to how Fontana performs day in and day out in training. That's on the player.

That doesn’t mean much to the people covering the league. They’d rather talk about NY, LA, Atlanta, & Seattle.

Who cares? The people who "cover the league" don't actually cover the entire league. That's painfully obvious to anyone paying attention. The fact that NONE of the Union's back four was in discussion for defender of the year is a complete joke. The same will happen next season too. The Union will move a couple players on, bring in some talented yet unknown players and the pundits will predict that the Union will miss the playoffs.

All that is, is noise. And it doesn't matter. We know the truth. The truth is that as the Union get younger, they'll only get better. They'll be able to play that breakneck pressing style that Tanner envisions. We saw how they unsettled NYCFC on Sunday. They just didn't have the bench to keep it going do to the 11 players missing.

Philly's list of unprotected players for the expansion draft:

    https://www.brotherlygame.com/2021/...s-available-for-tomorrows-mls-expansion-draft

    • Matheus Davo
    • Joe Bendik
    • Jesus Bueno
    • Cory Burke
    • Aurelien Collin
    • Stuart Findlay
    • Ilsinho
    • Matej Oravec
    • Gino Portella
    • Alvas Powell

And not player related.....it's possible that Pat Noonan will be named the new Head Coach of FC Cincy tomorrow.

Also from The Brotherly Game, the Union received about $3.5 million in prize winnings this season, mostly from reaching the CCL semifinal. That money, plus 3 home playoff matches should mean revenue was higher than budgeted. I hope some of those unexpected dollars go toward signing a quality striker!

    Huh?

The Union have been the talk of the town the last couple seasons.

First trophy. First playoff run. Curtin. Aaronsons. Academy.

And even if they don't compare to the big cities in the league, it's still infinitely higher than the last decade. Now is a weird time to bring out the victim complex.

Surprised no one mentioned he was in concussion protocol for most of the season. He started out playing a lot (kind of out of position as striker) because of lack of depth, but i think it's still a little early to write him off if he can get healthy. I still like him as an 8 more than anything else, but I don't see him getting that time here. So it might be best for him to get a chance elsewhere.

Played 27 minutes since June and the midfield was the one place we weren't really hit by the covid.

To be honest, he never seemed in favor with Jim and really only played because he couldn't stop scoring.

They made him an offer, but I don't see him coming back next year. I do wish him well in the future!

I should probably put this in the "in the media" thread but I think I will drop this here. Tannenwald's Inquirer piece on the need for the signing of a striker:

    https://www.inquirer.com/soccer/philadelphia-union-transfer-news-mls-20211220.html

.... "But we still don’t know what the Union really are. Are they going to be long-term contenders, or are they going to be the Eastern Conference’s Rapids? This winter will tell us, perhaps more than any offseason in team history."

.... "The tasks at hand for the Union in this short offseason — training camp starts at the end of next month — are clear. First, figure out what will happen with Kai Wagner — and that comes first so Tanner can know whether he needs to sign a new left back. Second, get the visa situation for Jamiro Monteiro’s family settled, or at least do as much as possible within immigration laws and bureaucracy."

... "But if all Tanner can do this winter is sign two depth pieces, that won’t be enough. If the Union are to become an elite team, they must spend the money that elite strikers command."
