And then you file for an injunction. While the attorney's earn their fees the games get played. If the league wins its case they can strip the title. If they lose, they lose. But courts like to let things play on the field play out while they are sorting it out, unless there is a compelling reason not to. I don't see the compelling reason to not let the three clubs finish the tournament while litigation occurs.

Just let me referee one of those CL games and I'll teach 'em, the miscreants!

Where do you file it? The teams involved are from two separate polities and several countries, FIFA/UEFA is headquartered in Switzerland, as is CAS. I'm truly curious which court has jurisdiction over CL, and could make an injunction stick.

You could file this anywhere there is a TV deal I'd think.

My guess is it'd be the owners (naming themselves as the clubs) vs UEFA in the CAS.

There will be fillings all over the world. Anywhere there is a television deal, sponsor, etc. It won't just be clubs filling. CBS will certainly want to see the CL played out or their money back from UEFA.

Good point. Which would mean the UCL has to go on otherwise UEFA gets sued for expelling teams that still want to be there and still play in their FAs (or want to).

There's got to be some language in the contracts somewhere revolving around treason that would defend UEFA though, no?

I usually have Bloomberg on in the background during the day and it was amazing the amount of coverage it had on Super League throughout the day. JP Morgan dropping $4B to the participating clubs as a welcome bonus I guess can bring that kind of attention.

I'm worried about all of these fillings: Liquid center fillings, beef, potato and parsnip fillings, fruit compote fillings, peanut butter, caramel and nut fillings and, as a result, fillings in our teeth.

Eh it makes sense to me as a natural progression of where the sport is going and globalization. I get the romance of the pyramid and the pro-rel system - it's interesting and competition with actual stakes is great to watch. Seems to me like UEFA dug their own grave here not enforcing FFP though. The English fans are complaining about the rich getting richer but that was already happening? Chelsea fans complaining is especially rich - this was put into motion when Roman bought them 20 years ago. Not surprised the spanish league fans don't seem as bothered, at least RM/Barcelona fans. That's been a 2 team league forever without the same profit sharing model of the PL, so not much changed. The spending caps this league will put in place at least give some of these teams an easier time competing with the oil clubs for titles.

Also, it's not a coincidence City and Chelsea are the most hesitant to be a part of this. There will be spending caps based on revenue and apparently, salary caps. They can't continue to buy their way into titles like they can in the PL/CL.

I am not opposed to the super league, and can see the owners perspectives; but the thoughts and preparations put into this initiative seems rather amateurish to me.

JP Morgan paying the clubs $4B is probably a shade above amateurish.

    Back to futbol.

Chelsea has a real good chance to move into 3rd place today. I think Pulisic will start this one.

Just because you throw a bunch of money around doesn't necessary make it a smart investment.

How much did Murdoch paid for MySpace?

It honestly has the potential to really bite them in the ass if they don't already have the television contracts lined up.

In the end, people are bandwagoners and will watch (though I won't, but mostly because weekday soccer is just not something I am going to focus on with teams I don't care about).

But I'm don't think it is going to be this massive success they think it is. Are people really salivating over AC Milan - Arsenal? I think not.

I would fully accept any player bans levied by FIFA if our guys suit up for Super League teams after being warned of the consequences. Sometimes life deals you hard choices, and you have to take responsibility for the choices you make.

particularly when Everton, Aston Villa, Leicester, and West Ham are much better clubs.

but I guess Kroenke just had to insure that his investment had the max exposure.

a world wide fan revolt is really the only way to get the attention of the investors.

keep in mind that Glazers are behind the Buccaneers (Tom Brady and that show) ...

Fenway Sports is behind the Red Sawx (and that marketing show)

JP Morgan must have some good quants that have told them how much they will make here ...

and Kroenke made his money the old fashioned way - he married into the Sam Walton family.

btw - ever notice that all the teams Kroenke buys either are crap or turn to crap. Not quite as bad as Dan Snyder but close.

We do, so perhaps we can hit the pause button on the larger issues, or move that conversation to the ESL thread, at least for a few hours today.

Yep, these ownership groups are terrible. But we shouldn't let the Barcas and Real Madrids off the hook, either -- if one of them had opted out, this would be dead, and both are technically "clubs."

Kroenke is a special piece of shit because he married into the money and clearly cares nothing about winning. The Red Sox group at least generally tries to win ... although the Mookie Bets trade is a sign that they there's a point where they will ride off the brand for cash as well.
