During the first outbreak of the new variants this was mandatory for a short period in Brisbane. They had a short lockdown to assist in contact tracing and isolation of close contacts and made mask wearing mandatory when you left your house (limited reasons that you could leave also). Not sure if it was just an oversight in hastily drafted regulations or they just thought easier to police when you couldn't use the excuse of I just got out of my car and forgot to put the mask back on.
Given the severity of Australia’s overall response, I could definitely see that happening... In the US, none of the mask mandates that I’ve seen have gone that far, rather they largely exist to give cover to businesses so they don’t have people bitching about having to wear a mask inside the business.
As an attempt to avoid answering a question I'll rate that as 2 out of 10. See post 12845. That's my question. What's your answer?
@Yoshou 1 - Covid 19 - The Brits are still trying to seek their revenge on us 2 - Covid 19 - non-American Exceptionalism, Vaccine Edition
Since there still seems to be ongoing replying... I love to take issue with this cliché. In addition to what @chad said, what if the person is vegetarian? What is the person is allergic to fish? What if pollution has made the fish toxic?
I've done similar. I've gone to the store, and made a stop on the way home. Kept my mask on 'cause I couldn't be ********ed to take it off. I've also had my mask on in my building (which has high risk individuals) and when I walked in the door, I just started doing what I needed to do, and multiple times it was at least 15 minutes later than I realized I still had it on. I'm a heavy breather, but to me, I have accepted that it is just another piece of clothing. (And is a nice and safe way to keep my nose, lips, and chin warm when the temperature gets cold.)
Questions: You have said that news sources are unreliable (and personally said I was a CNN repeater, which is funny, but anyway...). You have subsequently said that you do your own research. Okay, fine. But where do you go to get your information? If the CDC or local heath advisory board puts out a warning with recommendations, do you follow them? Why or why not? Regarding the COVID recommendations, and your issues with them, how much education do you have in virology? How many research papers have you written (as lead, as secondary, as any) on communicable diseases?
I know I’m 30+ posts behind so I don’t know if it’s been brought up, but I have asked women who wear their masks in the car alone for a reason why and it was because taking it on and off was a bother, messing up hair and/or makeup. Men I have no idea.
Oh, really? You can damn well be sure that I don't want my hair messed up. Yes, I'm like that. So, yeah, I do have an idea. (No so much about the makeup, but that also makes sense.)
Well, you were all "shields up" in your first post in this exchange. There's really no reason for anyone to conclude otherwise, except that it's just too easy a call. I doubt anyone concluded anything about you until your cry for attention in this post. Why is "goal" in quotes? I don't know about you, but I'd like for as few people as possible to have to deal with this plague. Oh, for ********'s sake... I've done it almost every time I go to a store for anything. I go back to my car forgetting that I'm wearing a mask. Sometimes I remember down the road, sometimes it's not until I get home that I realize it.
Horseshit. Me too. "Goal" is in quotes because there are several possible specific goals. I'm sorry that the appearance of quotation marks upsets you. Good for you. I've not had that experience. Not a single time.
What do I do? Not that it matters, since whatever I say at this point carries zero weight...but I wear masks when the business I go into requires it, like the grocery store for example. I also got the vaccine. I also got covid itself back over Xmas. I had a very mild case compared to others...I am also not of the demographic that has been hit the hardest, no comorbidities, in good health, not overweight, etc, etc. We should all have a choice as to what we can do. Labeling people as "essential" is a f*cking joke. Everyone is essential. The government, especially here in this glorious state I live, has decimated everything...based on nothing but a power grab. Sure, the first month was an unknown, but adjust as things develop. Nope...let's double down and keep it shut, because that makes total sense. Oh, and guess what...our dear governor has decided that CA will open 100% on June 15th. Based on what? The recall. It's all turned into one giant scam. At no time were the hospitals over-run here...all the extra military hospitals and overflow stuff they set up, and spent millions on, went un-used. Empty. Can't speak for other places, I only live here and I don't watch network news (which is all lies anyway). So what do I do? I train 6 days per week, I eat very healthy, I don't drink, I spend as much time outdoors as I can (even when the f*cking cops were trying to arrest and/or fine people on the beach while releasing people from jail) , I never eat fast food, and I never drink soda. If fat America did just half of that, we would have half the deaths. But our so-called "experts" never make suggestions on how to get healthy, never say to avoid sugar or processed foods, never say to just go for a walk...Nope...wear two masks, make it three! Close down businesses for no reason...It's an epic failure on every level.
Why does it matter where I get my info? You will make up your assumptions, regardless of what I say... I don't pay attention to the CDC, for the most part...I typically look at numbers, but that is about it. Why do I have to keep 6 foot distance (or wait, is it 3 now...maybe 4.75) from someone else, both of us wearing masks, while in an airport terminal, but as soon as we board the plane and they serve us drinks or food, masks come off? Don't sell me the nonsense of the filtered air...the dude next to me that sneezes across the back of the seat did not get that filtered before I took a breath. The hospitals in this city were never over-run. They were busy, but they are always busy...except when the various doctors and RN's were laid off from the "elective surgery" floors, to make room for all the covid patients that never came. I haven't written a single paper about virology, lead, secondary, tertiary, whatever...I am sure you have, or you haven't...I don't care. One thing I have learned in my careers in a few different parts of our government is that the so-called "experts" are mediocre at best, the real experts are in the private sector. If this pandemic has done nothing else, it has shown just how mediocre the leadership and "experts" actually are.
Same here, when his co-host was the Poorman. Dr. Drew seemed like quite the sensible fellow in his youth, or maybe that was just my youth. And holy shit this thread is moving fast, you posted this two days and over 10 pages ago, damn....
@SamScouse @crazypete13 You buys doing okay out there? I see things are getting pretty damned dicey your way. We're not exactly sitting pretty either, but luckily we've still a fair bit of ICU capacity to go - for now.
