By your screen name, I assume that you're a UK person. Do you know if it is true that Carry's contract was renewed? Waldrum seems as if he might have Pitt moving in a good direction.
im not sure what his contract is. I know he signed an extension at some point but not sure when its up. I would think the seat is getting warm. They got played off the park by Pitt
Google answered that, July 1, 2020 his contract was renewed for 3 years. The entire contract is out there on the internet if folks want to google for themselves.
Jon Lipsitz was at Kentucky for 8 years and he had them going in a pretty good direction. He was let go after the 2016 season which I was a bit surprised about. They had a bad year that year but he had more than enough good seasons before that to not warrant a firing in my opinion. What I don't know for sure is if there was any other reason for termination and I would suspect there was. He was still paid through the end of 2019 as agreed upon in his contract extension. Not a good sign when you get let go 3 years before your contract expires. He was known for being an overzealous recruiter so maybe he got in hot water with something on that end. Ian Carry was part of Lipsitz's staff for a couple years before Lipsitz got terminated. He's gone 6-28-4 in the SEC since taking over. I was shocked to hear he got an extension this past June that takes him to 2023. Honestly that decision and a couple of hires in the Patriot League were the biggest surprises in this past hiring and contract renewal cycle since covid hit. Nope, just stating that a quick google search brought it up pretty quickly. I had thought it was posted somewhere in these forums but google was quicker to find. I personally don't want to post someone else's contract, even if it's public, but if others want to have a look it's there for them to look up and see.
It’s pretty widely known Carry went into the admins offices and threw Lipsitz under the bus. Saying he could do better, the team doesn’t respect the head coach etc etc. why they listened to him is beyond me and clearly he isn’t capable at the SEC level but it was a shady way to get Lipsitz out of a job.
Really? So an assistant coach goes into AD’s office and told him those things you mentioned, and AD fires a successful coach with 3 years left in his contract? I’m not suggesting that didn’t happen but I would think there was something else that made the admins to make that type of move? If I get fired the way you explained, I’d have a great case for wrongful termination.
If JL was fired for a recruiting violation, some other turpitude or something non-performance related it would have been for cause, and they would not have had to pay out the remainder of his contract, right?
Ian did sign an extension, I have no idea how. AD is a dumbass I guess, Ian hadn’t won but 1 SEC game in couple years, run off most his team to other schools and had to have open school tryouts, twice to get enough girls for the roster. Dumpster fire and he lit the match. Another down the road needs to be let go to at Morehead. Has never won anything other than his first year there with the previous coaches recruits. Way past due to retire him.
JL was not let go for recruiting/non-performance issues. Previous posters are correct that IC was instrumental in getting him let go.
I know from experience that I am 70% more likely to buy something from an infomercial if the pitch man has a European accent.
Many hiring decisions come down to the impression a potential employee creates. Are you suggesting that ADs are not well informed enough on College WoSo to make good decisions?
Equality would be caring enough to do the work required to make an informed choice. Title 9 added womens sports, but the real "cost" of maintaining these sports at a good standard was either underestimated or ignored. The WNT fight seems to be centered around their pay relative to the men, but the reality of women's sports is so much more. Coaching hires are sometimes more about being able to justify the inevitable failure by pointing to some credential the bad candidate you chose had, than actually putting in the work to get the right person. Not sure many ADs care that much given the relative importance of women's soccer.
Hard to disagree with you there. The tough part is that the coach is clearly the AD's guy. Already survived allegations of inappropriate behavior in his first two seasons, which the AD made sure got brushed under the rug. High number of transfers because of the staff, almost all moving to stronger programs, including the YNT keeper and CM's self-proclaimed "future of the program", who transferred to SEC and then quit playing soccer. Kulas was let go for not producing results, but his recruits actually played key roles in team's improvement during CM's first three seasons. First year CM has a roster essentially entirely of his making, and this debacle is the result. Most games, the team looks unprepared to play. They have no real idea how to defend, and it's tough to say which is the biggest problem: the forwards playing on the back line, the forwards playing in the midfield or the forwards actually playing forward. Supporters will point to today's result as "playing UNC tough", but that was about as one-sided as a 1-0 match can be. Villanova has now been outshot 59-2 in the last three matches, including 30-0 in SOG. With all those forwards on the field, it's surprising they can't even get off a shot.
Yeah it’s common knowledge in the coaching world that Iain threw Jon under the bus. Didn’t go down well with a lot of coaches as Jon was pretty popular. Not really sure what is going on at Villanova. There are times they look decent and times they don’t look interested.
Towson had their second win on Sunday against Deleware 1 to 0! Team morale is still not improving. Monday morning another Towson player enters the transfer portal! Unfortunately, Several more to come! SMH!
I would think that Towson is getting warm but not hot just yet. A 2 win fall this year and that could change though. I would not consider Delaware hot after a 12-7 record in 2019. That will have bought the staff a few years.
