If you're not satisfied, then don't subscribe. Subscribing and expecting perfection of developing technology is unreasonable. And if you think television was absolutely perfect at first, you're sorely mistaken.

Sorry it's not an option for me not to subscribe, when streaming is the only way I can watch. I've been watching footy and one team in particular for many decades. I'm not gonna to quit that.

And I'm not expecting "perfection". But the bar they've seemingly set for the quality of user experience is so far below perfection. And more to the point it's a lower bar in quite a few fundamental ways than the old delivery system.

So all I'm asking is that they raise that bar, and try to do the basics as well as the old delivery model did. I don't think it's asking too much at all. And it's definitely not asking for perfection.

CBS manages to give me a continuous stream, and as much as I love their coverage, they are not exactly cutting edge tech or Mouse level infrastructure either. Peacock is just trash, the best advertisement for piracy you will find today.

Rebecca Lowe mentioned switching over to the Newcastle match tile.

That was 45 minutes or so ago. I still don't see it on my Chromecast. After checking just now, it showed right up on my phone.

Ok, I apparently don't use it enough. It's there on both devices under "sports" but why isn't it there on "browse?" I still see the Leeds tile, even though that game is long over.

I think that's similar to the problem I brought up above, where on my Roku, the tiles aren't actively refreshed. I had to click away from the Sports tab and back to it in order for it to show the current tiles.

That's certainly annoying and bad UI programming, and one of the many "little" things the powers-that-be could do a better job on, to make the streaming experience as easy, predictable & reliable as the old TV/DVR model has been.

In the meantime we just have to use workarounds or live with the deficiencies.

Oh, I did all that clicking away business, even back to the main Chromecast (Google TV?) page.

This game also seems to be not the best picture quality, even for streaming, but maybe that's my imagination or something beyond their control.

I'm thankful this morning that for some reason NBC has decided to show the 7am ET match on TV. But no pre-game show on NBCSN... what's up with that??

Actually, since my housemates are sleeping near both TV's, I'm watching on my laptop via NBCSports.com and dealing with their 45 sec delay in the stream.

Oh well, I guess I should be thankful I don't have to use some risky pirated stream. And the bar gets lower.

Yeah I know. And part of me is sorry (to all of you) for ranting so consistently about this.

But TBF, I had very few rants about NBC over the last 10 years (or whatever) since they first won the bid for EPL. I generally gave them high marks for their production quality, blanket coverage, quality personnel, etc.

It wasn't until the shift to Gold & Peacock that things really soured for me. And they've now had several years of streaming under their belt, to improve the user experience, and yet I see little evidence of it.

In the back of my mind, I keep thinking that perhaps some day someone at NBC (or the other big providers) will read this thread (or the other similar ones) and be inspired and empowered enough to make positive changes.

I supposed that could be misguided, wishful thinking but still...

Speaking of gold, and this has probably already been discussed, but will it still be around in some fashion?

I'd imagine over the next few years, things will shift to Peacock, making NBC Sports Gold a sort of ticking time bomb.

PGA, Nascar/Motorsports, Cycling, and America's Cup are the active packages in NBC Sports Gold.

They have a Philly option for those who want NBC Philly SN content and live outside of Philadelphia and a Trailblazers for those in the Portland market where you can get 15 designated games throughout the season

The next one most likely to migrate to Peacock is is the Premier League Lacrosse package. The current subscription period ends at the end of March

Unless my eyes deceive me, this Liga MX game between Chivas and Pumas is on NBCSN. Obviously, it's delayed, but it is an interesting development to me. I wouldn't have guessed that NBC would opt for this, but I guess they can only show Ninja Warrior and poker so many times.

It's a Telemundo-based broadcast, but in English, using (I'm guessing) Telemundo announcers. I'm guessing (again) the game wasn't originally on Telemundo as English SAP.

I think this is the first time I've seen Liga MX in English on an English-language channel.

Hasn't ESPN and FS1 taken some stabs at ligaMX at various times in the last few years?

Without thinking about it a whole lot, and while not being particular hip to the history of Liga MX broadcasts in the US, to me it doesn't seem too surprising that after NBC shifted a big chunk of EPL "content" off of NBCSN and onto Peacock, that they might be inclined to backfill with some other type of footy content that you have the rights to?

But that said, the fact that they seem to have been pretty happy to fill up NBCSN with Mecum Auto, Ninja Warrior & Poker, in the last year or so... that may not exactly support my theory.

FS1/2 has shown Liga MX games, and the Tijuana home games have been on Fox Sports San Diego even when they aren't on one of the national Fox Sports networks.

To add to the bitching about Peacock I just had to hook my playstation back up so I can watch matches today and tomorrow on Peacock after moving it to the outside TV, that has a firestick, on Sunday so I could watch Liverpool with actual other people.

I know the absolute definition of first world problems but not sure it's good for NBC to assume your customers will religiously follow you and put up with endless BS to watch your product. I mean I will, and that's probably what they are counting on, but seems a crap way to grow your viewership long term.

Tim Howard's birthday today and they just did a cute/hokey cake celebration with a Covid-appropriate mini-fan to "blow" out the candles.

Overall it gave me the impression of a going away party. Hmm... wonder if this is his first/last season on their team. He's clearly the weakest link.

What's the deal with Men In Blazers? I'll keep forgetting about that show, then I find out it hasn't been on in a while.

Is it completely randomly, or have I just not figured out the schedule? It seems like it used to be on almost every week...or at least when there was a full weekend of league matches.

I seems to be a little random. Yeah there was a time when it was weekly or close to it. But that might've been pre-pandemic.

My DVR records it automatically, so I don't really focus on their schedule, and just deal with it popping up fairly randomly.

Over the years I've warmed to it. Roger Bennett is really a quirky but quite likeable guy. And quite a decent interviewer, even with his odd question lead-ins.

I think it was the World Cup in Brazil when I first was aware of them. For me, they don't seem to be as funny.

Good point about it being a pandemic thing. Even though they've been seeming to do it at home, I'm sure they have a good reason.

One thing that I already miss is the simulcast with natural audio. Did they even bring it back at the start of the current EPL season? I'll admit I don't watch a lot of EPL and barely visit the NBC Sports app, but the lack of discussion of this has been noticeable.

I assume they're just piping in canned noise?

I guess one benefit of them getting rid of NBCSN next year is that their crack production team will get a little less confused by their schedule? This is from today's game, one was before KO and the other at HT... note the channels:

Sports Business Journal (paywalled) reported that NBC is officially out of the NHL broadcasting business as of the end of this season.

This may be a sign for NBC seeking to retain the Premier League rights.

Since NBC owns the EPL rights through next season, i.e. June 2022, and the word is that they're pulling the plug on NBCSN at the end of 2021, thereby shifting the EPL to be virtually all-digital for the 2nd half, I presume they're currently sitting on the fence, between re-upping for the next contract or letting someone else step in.
