A shared amount of blame. Blame the managers for not giving the youth opportunities. Blame the youth for not taking advantage of those. Blame the vet for not realizing their glory days are long past and to make way for the next generation.
So a 29 year-old Jozy Altidore should have turned down call-ups because his "glory days are long past".
Never said he but in principle one needs to acknowledge it. I'm sure for Jozy, he still wants to deliver on an international tournament. Some think of his performance against Spain but that was 12 years ago. I suppose there is the hattrick against Bosnia but he never had a WC goal or solid performance that will burn a hole in our memory forever.
I disagree. Though of course Jozy has lots of rivals much younger than him so I'm sure he sees the writings on the wall though very few have proven themselves yet.
Well he probably does now but that's mainly down to persistent injuries but in 2017 he was a MLS all-star, MLS Cup MVP and US Soccer Athlete of the Year.
There's not planet where a guy having that year thinks he should step aside for any of the available options in 2017. People are trying to retcon a long decline in Jozy's play and skills but it just doesn't exist. His first bad MLS season was 2020. The guy doesn't stay healthy but when available he's good. I will be surprised if he doesn't come back and have a good year in 2021.
Toronto media think he's there too. "I still think that he is a very capable player and I also think that he loves Toronto. I just think that he still has a lot to give this organization." @lauraarmy on the Jozy Altidore exit rumours @WakingtheRed #TFCLive pic.twitter.com/fKuYFtmBea— Room 4-4-2 (@TheRoom442) February 16, 2021
Jozy has had a successful career as an elite MLS striker. 73 goals and 25 assists in 124 games worth of minutes. In 2017, following an off-season weight-loss regimen, he had a career year at MLS level. It was the only MLS season, and only his 3rd overall, in which he logged 2000 minutes. Since that season, his time has been riddled by injury. Physically, he looks to have more than gained the weight back. He has looked ponderous when on the field. In other injury riddled years his goals/90 productivity was still excellent. That wasn't the case in 2020.
It's when you rewrite a narrative later in longer storytelling. It's common in comic works and other long running works -- a character may suddenly have a new back story different than the one written a decade ago to enable some aspect of the story. Here, it's just meaning a rewritten history -- changing the narrative from what actually happened. (Sometimes, it's shorter and driven to fix mistakes or change seemingly minor things -- the most famous one that makes people angry is Greedo shooting first in the new release of Star Wars).
Well said, In this case, the retcon is of Jozy being at the end of a years' long decline in skill. The problem with that is I saw the games in 2019. 2020 is the first season of his career where he didn't look like himself physically and there were even a few good games sprinkled in. I'm not judging anybody, especially on a Canadian team based on MLS 2020.
Toronto FC hire ex-US men's national team fitness coach Pierre Barrieu as director of high performance https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2021...am-fitness-coach-pierre-barrieu-director-high Thanks to @Stuart95 for posting this. Pierre Barrieu was extremely well-regarded as I recall--and it was a disappointment when he left US Soccer. This might be of great consequence for Jozy.
Was he the fitness coach when Altidore was a mainstay on the uSMNT? If so then hardly think this is a good thing for Jozy's future.
I think Sargent and others have every chance to unseat Jozy, but I also think the last time he played for us in the Gold Up, our offense looked instantly more cohesive as soon as he stepped on the field. Of course, this long injury layoff brings up a bunch more questions about his long term fitness, but if he can get back into close to his top condition and form, we certainly have and have played worse options.
A native of Thionville, France, Barrieu worked as the strength and conditioning coach for the USMNT under both Bruce Arena and Bob Bradley from 2002-06 and 2008-11, spending the 2002 and 2006 World Cup with Arena and the 2010 World Cup under Bradley. He
Oh, so it's like that thing where everyone pretends Berhalter has made sensible decisions all along? I kid, I kid...
https://fbref.com/en/players/8db8ad1e/scout/365_mls/Jozy-Altidore-Scouting-Report These statsbomb stats in FBref pages are new to me but It looks like they show a lot of why Jozy is valuable to a team when on the field. 660 minuts is a paltry sample but in that he was ranked very high in passing, shooting and shot creation among forwards. The numbers definitely fit with what I saw on the field.
Might be a big year for Jozy. His contract is up in 2022 and the World Cup is coming. Maybe he'll push for a last big payday. https://torontosun.com/sports/soccer/mls/toronto-fc/tfcs-armas-altidore-being-a-professional-at-camp Armas has nothing but praise for Altidore, adding that the Livingston, N.J.. native has “worked his a– off” at camp. “When you see the way he shows up every day, I can just say this: I see a professional every single day that’s focussed on winning and preparing — a guy that’s running for the team and, again, he looks to get better every day,” Armas said Monday. “That’s what I’m seeing right now. And we’re off to a really good start in terms of a team (getting together) and then some of the relationships — player to player, player to coach, coach to player — that’s going to help us drive this forward. I’m seeing a winner every day and commit big-time to the team and to himself.”
Report: Toronto FC willing to pay $15 million for River Plate striker Santos Borre From the MLS site: "Toronto FC have reportedly offered a $15 million, three-year contract for River Plate forward Santos Borre" Borre is 25 years old... 24 goals in 71 games for River Plate, according to his Wikipedia. It was already tough to imagine Jozy playing in Chris Armas' system, it's even harder to imagine him staying in Toronto if they splash major cash on a striker, even if that leaves them at three DPs (Pozuelo, Jozy, new guy).
