Honestly, I'm just hoping that there are claims of American bias towards him, to start counteracting two decades worth of claims of Euro anti-Americanism.
Mostly info drawn from the interview linked above: "Aaronson said his family will come over to Austria in a few weeks to help him get settled there. He will wear the No. 11 shirt with his new team. The Austrian Bundesliga season resumes on Jan. 24. Salzburg will play three warmup scrimmages against other teams before then." “Hopefully I can play with the team soon and get on the field and show what I can do,” Aaronson said. “Salzburg play fast, direct and attacking football. That’s what I like to do, and I think that this just fits my profile really well.” {One first has to skip past coverage of the Steffen-Pulisic rivalry match.} https://www.inquirer.com/soccer/che...steffen-christian-pulisic-usmnt-20210103.html
And a TV coverage note from the same link: "Unfortunately, Austrian league games are hard to watch in the U.S. Eleven Sports, an out-of-the-way channel on Verizon and RCN cable systems – and streaming platforms including FuboTV – has the rights. Eleven occasionally streams games via its online platform For The Fans HQ. Hopefully that will happen more often now that Aaronson is in the league. The easiest way to watch Salzburg will be its games in the Europa League, since CBS All Access and Univision will stream them. Salzburg faces Spain’s Villarrreal on Feb. 18 and 25."
I get the feeling of Landon - Klinnsman - Bayern with this one. Different quantities obviously (Klinnsman was trying to stamp his authority in a position he proved woefully unqualified for and Landon was a known quantity who was accused of lacking the mentality to make in Europe already). Luckily this transfer seems pretty cheap overall and worst comes to worst they can probably sell him back to MLS for a nominal loss; getting the 11 shirt is another good sign as well. Also the idea of Sir Alex personally picking up Ronaldo who spoke, like, 5 words of English at the time is hilarious. I hope he didn't pick him up with a chauffeur; it was Sir Alex behind the wheel of a Geo Metro and a befuddled Ronaldo in the passenger seat "Git in the cah, kid!"
Part of the problem with the Landon - Klinsmann - Bayern situation was that no American-born field player had ever really established themselves at a club like Bayern Munich before, and nothing in Donovan's prior experiences in Europe suggested that he would be an exception. So some sort of American-favoritism was a natural inference for Bayern fans (and most likely players and management as well) to make. Couple that with Klinsmann's underwhelming coaching performance and the lack of any other notable transfer activity at the club, and that was always going to be a tough situation to enter into. Big differences here are that Marsch has apparently engendered a lot of good will at the club, and numerous Americans are currently succeeding at clubs at or above Salzburg's profile, so I'd imagine there's less inherent skepticism about the idea of an American playing there more broadly.
yeah i dont see many parallels at all. two totally diff situations....I expect aaronson to come in and do well.

Brenden Aaronson vs Vorwarts Steyr (01/16/21) https://t.co/V7ZtdtwGWA— FalseFullback (@FalseFullback2) January 16, 2021
He did look great in that highlight video. He had some very nice dribbles and passes. It looks like he also got an assist at the end to add to his goal. Nice debut even though it was a friendly against inferior opposition.
He looked refreshed and confident right off the bat. So at least a couple bridges crossed. Really needed at least a mini break. Feel great about his outlook the rest of the season between the leadership role he took and they gave him off the bat. Can't wait for his competitive and Europa League debuts. Circle those dates (1/24 & 2/18) on the calendar.
