While have no idea what the spend structures are like in Belgium, its the same Brugge team in UCL with an occasional visit from Genk in European soccer news. I don’t know what the rest of the top flight looks like. What I will say is that MLS has increasingly become a spend to win league. Hiring this guy away from a potential Europa League spot along with buying out his contract had to cost something. If they’ve spent on the coach, they need to spend a little more than they have on the playing roster. We were 200k from being a bottom third spender last year and the lack of depth showed. 200k, that’s less than a veteran deck chair. I don’t need to see a Toronto grade spend, but I think we need to move more firmly into the middle third of spenders in the league. Because they’re not releasing the salaries, we will have no idea what Crew had spent on their roster, but I’d guess they were close to a bottom third spender which would make them the first team since Colorado, 10 years ago to win a title from the bottom third. With more big spenders coming into the league in Charlotte, St Louis, Sacramento and anyone else Garber can drum up, is going to make the odds of winning on a budget harder.

Here's hoping the ownership won't let Benny and Chad (both of whom are still on the payroll) convince Losada to jettison his attacking style in favor of Bennyball.

I'm not talking about him having a lesser roster, I am talking about him understanding Calvinball rules of getting players. He can learn that but will it wear on him until he leaves?

Will Lozado bring his preferred assistant coaches with him, or will he make do with coaches still on the DCU payroll, i.e., Benny and Chad? I would not want his attacking ethos smothered by the inventor of Bennyball.

If he doesn’t clean house and bring in his own people, I’d be really surprised. I can’t imagine that he signed a contract to coach here without an agreement that he would have control over the coaching staff.

It would be extremely difficult to do worse. By the rules of the Olsenatti, we have to give this guy 10 years though to see if he can develop into something good.

DC has managed to genuinely surprise me with this pick and I'm very happy. It's a rare day in recent memory when I'm genuinely proud to support this club.

I wish him the best and hope they give him at least 2-3 yrs to build his roster properly. If it doesn't work out by then, no real harm done (can't possibly be worse than Ashton or Olsen were doing)

Depends in which direction , I need 15 minutes to get into Holland, 40 minutes to get into France.

It will be interesting for us Belgian football fans to watch how this turns out. I'm sure Losada got the attention of some of the bigger Belgian teams in the short period he was coach at Beerschot.
In fact, as things just got a little more difficult for Beerschot in the last couple of games, it would have been interesting to see how he coped with less favourable results.

Superficially, I like the hire. We're in a position where a high risk/high reward hire is better than low risk/low reward.

But digging deeper, this is a bit like Groucho Marx and clubs. I won't like any coach willing to sign with this shitty organization.

    You're apparently unaware of a coach's job.

And yet as an Olsen defender I have been told for years now, how HE ASSEMBLED a shitty roster.......................................................because HE HAD TO BE INVOLVED WITH KASPER on player acquisition.

WTF? Those who say Losada doesn’t understand MLS, do you think he is in an isolated bubble? Like he doesn’t use the Internet, or use a phone? When DCU FO approached him, I’m thinking he started checking out what was happening over here, if not before. Whether he could negotiate certain aspects of his situation with the contract, who knows. But he wasn’t entering into the agreement blindfolded.

Yeah...no. He just showed he wasn't willing to play the talent if they weren't all in on his defense 1st offense. I seriously doubt he had much say in most of the team other than ..."get me gritty".

Even Benny didn't play Bennyball during the few stretches when he actually had some horses. I don't expect a spending spree but if Levien and Kasper don't get some attacking talent for Losada we're going to see a lot of exciting losses.

    Huh.

In my time-space continuum, you've spent years saying it's all the GM and Ashton's fault.

I need to find that vortex....

No I readily admit that is my stance. Olsen had his flaws but Kasper and Ahston were the bigger culprits.

Oddly enough, the team was much more aggressive in the games Ashton coached.
