And yet we're talking human beings, not some kind of alien breed. And 8 out of 10 of them have been persuaded to believe in a totally baseless and made up story, that's been showed multiple times being untrue in courts, that are the places that, in a democratic society, should be recognized by everyone as the ones appointed to decree if a legal claim is correct or not.

There is something deeply wrong with it, that can't be easily dismissed by saying that they're Republicans, thus beyond caring. Because, even if they were not all registered as Republicans, there were anyway 75.000.000 voters who chose Trump. Let's pretend that this poll is quite accurate (although the margin of error that's declared in the Tweet, +- 7,5%, is quite huge): it would mean that there would be about 60.000.000 people out there who believed a blatant lie that's been built in cold blood and repeated with a straight face, despite the fact that it has about the level of credibility of flat earthers.

Now, of course it's impossible to eliminate flat earthers and every era of the history of the world will have its ones, but when the poilitical equivalent of flat earthers are 60.000.000 in a country of about 328.000.000, well, to put it mildy that's a problem. Just declaring that they're lunatics nutjobs is not enough, because at this rate it's going to become "Idiocracy" made real, instead of just a dystopia. I am not sure what can be done, but something must be done!

 

Actually, 19% is an improvement. If it can get to 30% by the Spring, I will consider that an achievement. Having Trump out of office and the constant limelight and w/out a social media platform may help.

What was interesting about the poll: it didn’t release the raw numbers for each group (GOP, Dem and Indep), but they did release margin of error by group. Based upon the MOEs, there were nearly as many GOP identifiers as there were Dem identifiers. The proportions line up pretty closely with what you’d see in a Gallup party ID survey at any point over the last few years.

 

I'd be interested in seeing a poll that asked Republican voters if Pelosi was an alien lizard creature pretending to be human, and Democratic voters the same question of Mitch. I wonder how the percentage of Yes votes would differ.

 

We'll split the difference and survey on "reptile creature."
