At least Nakajima and Moriah stay at INAC.

All this movement of players but no word on Utsugi. That is sad. It has been a year since she left Seattle - at least The Reign, she might still live there - and all quiet around her. Except for the Nadeshiko blanket presentation a while back.

Do we know if WE league has an actual salary cap or something? If not, I am afraid Beleza is done as a title contender... If you can't give enough money to keep the best Japanese keeper and one of the brightest talents in your team, that seems like another corporation focused on maximizing their profits and nothing else...

    WE League

Rules for contracts, registration and transfers
    (it's based on J League)

Basicaly it's: (as I understand it)
contract A starting around 50-65k $ per year with no upper limit
contract B starting around at 25k $ per year with no upper limit
contract C starting around at 25k $ per year with limit under 50k $

In addition there are additional fianacial benefits stipulated in there (training compensation, amateur->pro transformation, allowances, materninty leave pay, et.c.)

    • 15 out of 25 must be pro contracts
    • at least 5 contracts must be A
    • at least one executive must be a woman
    • within three years, women must make up at least half of the team staff
there was something about 5 foreginers - not as a rule but rather a strong suggestion (I guess for the future developement)

Now, assuming clubs will sign pro contracts with all of their 25 players (which how it looks like) then at minimum 800 000 $ in club budget has to be secured for players wages alone.

When FA WSL started clubs were needed to secure at least 800k £ in their budget in order to get the license.

I read somwhere that JFA will support each club by 400k $ (200k $ in direct money and 200k $ in other support) - I guess it will change from season to season.

On a good day, Beleza had a full bench, on a bad day, barely enough players to actually have a bench... Who will be among those 25 players... I assume kids from the academy?

How you can let Yamashita go is beyond me... Arguably the best keeper in a history of Japanese football... Sad times...

This is a good pickup for Niigata, especially if they can keep Kono. But I see she has not signed with them yet. Or did I miss her name?

She did have a pretty bad season despite JEF doing quite well. In her farewell address she basically said that she felt she was unable to contribute as much as she liked often being helped more than she could help others. This was due to the younger players maturing.

Anyway, she should be okay, because she works for a rather large life insurance company and should have a job for life.

hmm.. Tokyo Verdy (men's) market value dropped within a year by 32% Question is how (if) does it affect their women's section? These are poor times for playing football for anyone... let alone for starting a new league. Clubs cut expenses wherever they can in order to survive.
Is Yamashita - a marquee player - victim of such cuts?
I'd expect her to sign contract A (around 70-75k $/per year) was she offerd as much by Beleza?

hmm2...Perhaps Tanaka transfer had to do with money as well....

I was thinking the same thing. And with the Yamashita transfer, paired with the many transfers out of INAC Kobe, I'm REALLY nervous about Beleza also breaking up their roster.

It is a shame Albirex lost Ji Eun Kim, because I thought she played very well for them last season. She is a player that would be most welcome at Nojima. I feel Albirex need to add a few more players just to change up their squad a little.

Getting Michigami is good for the forwards, but I feel they need somebody a bit more dynamic added to midfield. I am glad Kono is staying with them.

The reality is that they have a lot of national representatives (Shimizu, Kobayashi, Endo, Miura, Ueki and Hasegawa) and they will all want a decent pay cheque. I am not sure what else Beleza can do at this point. They want to keep players, but they don't want to go bankrupt. It is really difficult for them, because they have a lot of good players.

As you point out the first season will be tough for most clubs, because of Covid-19. I think it is wise for clubs to cut back on spending money and just get through the first season. Once the first season is done then maybe be a bit more aggressive with spending once they know how much money they can generate.

First of all, props to @Lechus7 for the excellent marketing review! :) I must admit that I had missed or forgotten some details that now appear very clear with this recap.

Also, she was quite pretty, in my opinion: it will be sad not saying her beautiful face anymore on the pitch.
I mean, I am not supposed to connect with the life insurance company where she will work to stalk her! :x3::p

I am very happy that my good old friend Emi Yamamoto (I had the chance to talk with her in a pair occasions when she was playing in Italy) found a way to play again in the Top Division at age 38 (actually 39, since she's born in March, so her birthday should come before the beginning of the league). :D

The reality is, Yamashita are more important than any other player. All those players mentioned above can be replaced. The only player who can't be replaced is Yamashita, ok maybe Shimizu is important as captain as well but I rather lose Shimizu than Yamashita...

I guess Momoka Tanaka will be starting now (if she is not leaving as well)...

Well, I admit Yamashita is a big loss (although she had her blunder-days too), but judging by what I remember about Momoka Tanaka from youth NT games, she should be a more than decent GK, shouldn't she?

Well, Beleza has no choice now anyway... We should see Momoka Tanaka playing against big teams first in order to see how good she really is.

Yamashita by far is the best Japanese goalkeeper (possibly ever). If she would improve a few aspects of her game, she can easily be a starter for a big European club. Barcelona etc. whoever plays out of the back Guardiola style.

Given the level of keeping in Japan I agree that Beleza should have held onto her, but she may have left for any number of reasons. She may have just wanted a change, but as people have already stated it may just be about money.

The more I reflect on it, they have lost a lot of good players over the last two seasons.

Wow, the best eleven only made by Urawa and Beleza player, with the only exception being Mina Tanaka (that wasn't even the best INAC player, in my opinion), doesn't seem to reflect the variety of very good and interesting players we've seen at work last season (although, of course, it's understandable, since Urawa were the winning team and Beleza were the backbone of the NT).

Imo Haruka Hamada should be considered in best XI for 2020.
She really led MyNavi's charge in 2nd part of the season where they scored 16 points in last 10 games. Wouldn't mind to see her getting the call for NT tryout.

I guess Tanaka got listed ahead of her cuz of Beleza top 3 finish and their Empress Cup win.

I wonder if Iwabuchi is starting to regret her choice already. With all appologies to Villa fans - this team is outright weak. It wasn't one time bad performance against equaly weak Brighton last week. :cautious:

Tanaka also plays for INAC now.;)

Tanaka also scored fewer goals than Kobayashi who in my opinion was the standout striker this season. I am certain she played fewer games than Tanaka, yet was able to score more goals. Also she had the highest accuracy rate this season out of all players in the league. I had my doubts about Kobayashi, but I am a genuine convert after her performances this last season.

But you are right Hamada is pretty unlucky not to be selected, but you know she does not play for Beleza, Urawa or INAC.

I cannot complain about the midfield, because Urawa's midfield is pretty good at the moment. I am glad Shibata was picked, because I thought she was very good when I saw her play.

I know people rate Minami and Seike, but I am less convinced, especially Minami. She does some strange things in defence. You only need to look at the winning goal of the Empress's Cup to appreciate where I am coming from.

The thing is though, Albirex only let in seventeen goals this season, which was the lowest and the same number as the mighty Urawa. I doubt any of the Albirex defenders were considered. I thought Satsuki Miura and Hyokyeong Lee for Albirex in defence were very good this season.

Nota bene: In a previous post I mistook Ji-Eun Kim for Hyokyeong Lee. Lee was very good for them last season and they should try and keep hold of her.

The best eleven is made up of good players who all had good seasons, so I am not that aggrieved by it, but sometimes I wish they would choose one or two players from outside the big three.
