I am . . . bemused at the Putna signing. He showed last year he isn't a number one in a competitive MLS, and we kept MacMath so we don't need a backup whose ceiling we pretty much already know. A backup with a possibly higher ceiling? Okay.

Unless we think he can be a strong number one, it doesn't make sense. MacMath as the spot guy with experience starting, Ochoa to be groomed, and then that leaves Putna where exactly? I don't object to him but he is just another occupant of the same spot as MacMath.

I actually like Putna. I get the excitement for Ochoa but I'm not holding my breath. I I also don't get the need for 3 keepers on this squad.

I think keeping Ochoa and either Putna or McMath is better than all keeping all three and tying up a spot for another midfielder. Just kidding.

It's almost like this team has no one in charge and someone is just signing players willy nilly for the fun of it. Weird.

Baird was alright his rookie season.

If he can do that, and not drop off, he'd be a solid addition.

Agreed. Good rookie season, but Baird was terrible this last season.

Sobowale, a 19-year-old defender and Ireland U-19 international, has reportedly had initial discussions with RSL and is open to a stateside move, but is also on the radar of Crystal Palace and a handful of clubs in the English Championship: Millwall, Stoke City and Blackburn Rovers.

Why in the actual ******** would you come to RSL with those other options?

Baird was more than alright his rookie season. The kid (rightfully) won ROTY. The sophomore slump he had was more like a sophomore skydive

This'll be very interesting. Probably a good move for RSL and for Baird. I wouldn't be surprised to see LAFC being able to fit him in at a position that makes more sense than anything we've been able to do in the last few years.

Small tear, he autographed my boys' jerseys when we saw them play in Chicago.

Moving on, there's 4 senior roster spots and 3 international spots available. No DPs or major transfer fees any time soon. Draft is next week and they have a decent pick in the first round, up to four total if they want. Fill up the Monarchs roster?

There seems to be a need for a starting level CB, but the rumor is for a Irish U19, hmm. Although Pablo is showing that type of move can work.
Still don't know why Fall filled the roster with guys like Schmitt and Portillo. I don't see how the team is a couple pieces away like Freddy and Elliot keep saying. I'm not expecting the signing of anyone making more than the max budget charge.

I would really like to see the new ownership take advantage of the proposed young player rule.

Baird did better when the attention was off of him, and he has some flair. He'll do well as a piece of the puzzle at LAFC. And we'll do better with the compensation.

    Well done by Fall IMO.

I hate the trade. Feels like we conceded legit MLS talent for peanuts. It's not like we're swimming in players. For me it's hard to over-rotate on the shit-show that was last year. In that I'm not sure last year constitutes much of an actual data point - it was too wacky both globally and within the context of the RSL franchise mess. I think we'll regret this and he'll score against us every single year.

That is definitely a pretty good deal for RSL. Hopefully Corey will be able to do us a solid and meet the performance goals.

Hopefully they don't involve catching planes on time. Amirite?

I am glad to see him go and wish him well. Hopefully he can live up to the expectations people have for him.

I would only agree with you on one thing, Corey will score on us every single year. It just might be the only goals he gets.

If it's anything like the Brooks Lennon trade last year, I think it will be ok.
To be fair, Atlanta didn't have Josef, so maybe this year we'll regret it.
I'm fully expecting Corey to have a year more like he did in 2018.

I like this move for all parties, honestly. While $500K over two years isn't a ton of cash, it opens the door to get somebody just over the threshold.

I also think the tape is out on Baird in terms of what he can and cannot do. He is a guy who busts his ass off and can put himself into good positions. He is not a technically skilled player or known to be especially fast or anything of the like. As a player, in compliment to someone with those skills, he can make a great addition.

The international roster spot is a huge get for us, given how limited we are there. And cash that Fall can use, without an ownership in place, is a wise move by him. I'm good with this one.

All of that set aside, this move makes sense from what we saw of Baird last year in terms of his attitude and emotions. Something was certainly off with him. Whether Baird asked for the move or RSL/Fall did it themselves, it doesn't matter. Something there was off to the point of being almost toxic. I can't imagine a player doing this things Corey did was welcomed in the locker room warmly.

    Agreed here.

You could probably say this about every player other than our goalkeepers.

Mostly this says to me the FO doesn't think we just need to roll back out the same players and hope for a better result. That's positive.

eh, I think the realization was that, in order to address the remaining needs, we had to open up an international slot. Ashtone Morgan stands out like a sore thumb in this regard. The other players occupying international slots make sense, or at least you can make an argument to keep them around. Morgan, though? Just straight baffling.

Oh, and Fall admitted the club wasn't looking to move Baird. LAFC essentially just made an offer Fall couldn't turn down

"Corey has been an exceptional player for us over the last three years. He has contributed massively to our success on the field and in the organization. As a product of our robust Academy and development system, we are really proud of what he’s become,” said RSL GM Eliot Fall in a Real Salt Lake press release. “We weren’t looking to move him, but LAFC was extremely interested in acquiring him and were willing to make an offer that we felt as a club will provide us opportunities for the next players as well as strengthening our position to build our roster for 2021 and beyond.”

The cynic in me looks at this as the GM for LAFC realizing the deficiencies of the RSL roster better than Fall and giving him those in negotiations. Fall then going "an international slot? OH! AN INTERNATIONAL SLOT!"

    stupid tackles
    constant dissent with the ref
    overall sloppy play

I'm not saying players expect others to be perfect, but it was so consistent from Baird that, at least from my perspective, it had to have worn thin on the rest of the team.
