******** all of this. Freddy's decisions are just ridiculous. The guy was a great player, no doubt about that. And it is said enough that it must be true: great guy. But you cannot find anything to seriously state that this guy is a good coach. His one good record featured a bus parked in front of goal. The irony of that? The "defensive" focused assistant coach, Tyrone Marshall, is still with the club. So... um. Having a hard time getting myself motivated to watch this team in 2021
RSL Show synopsis: Dude Bros Catchup Mad at other news outlets actual publishing news and not just talking about rumors without saying said rumor Talk about the studio that we cant see but it is important because reasons Corey Baird Sucks studio (this was one of the best parts of the podcast) Jake goes to California for cars and such...? Rubio Rubin depth forward confirmed(ish) "Rumors" but nothing said, which should be the tagline for this podcast in general Corey Baird Suck Studios again, with excuses for Corey made that don't add up Apparently RSL sold the Glad signing like it was bigger news than it actually was. I dunno. Not on social media. Casually brush off the promise they made about the DLH/Andy Carroll/RSL investigation by MLS not being reported at the end of December. Which is just so par for the course with this club and the coverage of it. Even the league is like "meh" Ryan Smith still the frontrunner, but seems to be having problems getting others involved DLH is still involved, apparently. Thats... how? And then Pablo Mastroeni. This part was just hilarious. The hoops they jump through to make this make any sense make Q Anon believers look logical
My initial "okayness" with bringing Pablo on board is lessening by the day. It's just weird, with no significant upside over other people who could be the assistant instead. And plenty of potential downside.
hey hey hey, Jake said MLS circles say its a great move. We should all be so happy to have a failed MLS coach on our staff. I would LOVE for the new ownership to come in and just cut everyone, top to bottom. All jobs are open and those people can reapply, but there is absolutely nothing in this club that you can point to and say "yeah, keep that goin"
Kreis often talked about needing three years to really see the success of a coach. Pablo had that at Colorado. So, we can expect another year of crap from Freddy and then potentially a good season in 2022. Or, we can expect two years of crap under Pablo and a successful season in 2023. Either way, things are looking up for the future of the club!
I am all for the 3 years for a coach thing, but caveat it with recognizable growth. My documented frustration with Kreis was towards the end of 2009 when it felt like the team had stagnated. The run they went on shut me up real fast. I don't see that from Freddy's RSL. I don't see Freddy implementing a vision that is going to be successful
Srsly. And because it's gray and boring outside, I have to ask. Who would be a worse hire, coming from a hated rival perspective? I'm going with Steven Lenhart. That guy was just shit.
If Feilhaber is thinking about a coaching gig, I'd put him up there with Lenhart or Alan Gordon, just based on pure dickbag-ness. This might need its own thread.
Pablow made the RMC have bite with the infamous shirt tuck. He then showed himself to be a pretty meh to bad coach in MLS. Hiring him to our staff is nonsensical on so many levels. If the selling point is he brings intensity, there are a million coaches out there that have that on their resume. I'm sure there are at least a few who aren't (a) former cRapids managers who (b) performed poorly overall. I mean, this guys background is the cRapids and Houston, both in failing seasons but one. Why would we want that on our staff? Why aren't we calling up everyone at Seattle or Toronto and begging them to come in with some of their proven ideas? Whats next, we hire the San Jose (worst GA average last year) goalkeeper coach? We go get the worst assistant on the lowest scoring team last sea.... ah shit, that was us out West. I guess we could ask Cinci Oh, and not mentioned yet: how stupid it is that this club has the Monarchs and yet doesn't leverage them for coaching promotions, either. Not saying Olave or anyone on that staff deserves a promotion, but their resume isn't any worse than Pablo, if you ask me.
The only acceptable reason for hiring Pablo over all other candidates is his epic mustache. That's what Freddy should say: "Have you seen his mustache?"
It's not like the assistants from last year were anything to write about. Only TM is coming back (defense was pretty average, so?). Monarchs have two former GK coaches, so maybe one gets promoted? I'm not sure if this is a good hire or not, but the bar has been set pretty low. Maybe the other (presumed) coaching announcements will be better received.
I'm of the opinion that quality assistant coaches matter deeply. I believe a big part of the success of RSL under Kreis was the group of : Miles Joseph, Brian Johnson, CJ Brown and Jeff Cassar. That was a very talented group of positional coaches. Is this move a downgrade? Maybe not. But this team needs to be looking for major upgrades at every turn and in every aspect of the organization, and now would be a great time to do so with assistant coaches. In other words, Pablo just might be the Corey Baird of assistant coaches.
One thing that baffles me about professional sports is just how little the head coach seems to do in a lot of situations. While they are the final say on ideas, the execution of said ideas almost always falls to the assistants. Training sessions are typically ran almost entirely by an assistant, with the head coach acting as consultant. Warmups are always an assistant. Film review is an assistant. etc. My point is I whole heartedly agree with your statement. Quality assistants are underappreciated, but also there are folks that are MUCH better at that line of work vs the head job. I think Freddy falls into that, based on what I've seen. Cassar certainly did. He knew his role as an assistant and did a damn good job at it. The knock on Fraser for the longest time was the same thing. I think he's shown growth enough to be the head guy now, though. My point is we have a head coach who actually doesn't have what you would consider head coach qualities as his strong suit. And he's paired him with assistants that don't seem too great at that, either. This is a recipe for failure on so many levels
Houston is a literal crapfest of a city. There are few places that I have strong emotions about, Houston is one with negative emotions. It could be he hated it there, too.
Pablo brings bite and fight. He's like having roger Espinoza on your sidelines. The guy has the harriest of chotch and he won't hesitate to rub your nose in it to get a win. He is super easy to hate when he is not with you but I figure Pablo will fight for a role here. Vermes brought that pass and vinegar to SKC and we really look soft out there for long periods of time. Having said that, its a weird match given the history. The WORST part is that we gave up $50,000 in GAM for an assistant coach. Now, that is stupid. If its Bob Bradley, then perhaps. But this is for an assistant coach. In what Wizarding world do wanker assistants get player assets to swap teams? Failblog.org. Meet Elliot
