This team needs a bit of fight and actual experience in MLS. We had w assistants last year so as long as he is not one of just 2 assistants I think it could add something we don't have to the mix.

So soon it's going to be Pablo as HC with KB as the assistant?

Did you happen across any video clips of Pablo and KB5 playing in their band together back in their Miami Fusion days? I've heard there was one out there, but never been able to put my hands on it.

There was a clip in a pre-2002 World Cup special about the USNT with Pablo playing guitar and singing in it. I can't recall the song at all, but there was a Landon Donovan bobblehead on the coffee table and at one point in the song, Pablo pauses and knocks the bobblehead off.

Weird memory to have stored almost 20 years, but such is the Mind of Ismitje.

It's a good move for Pablo. Always better to try and follow someone who's been shitting the bed, rather than someone like Kreis, assuming Pablo is gunning for the top coaching job. No matter how bad a job he does, it probably won't be worse than what the last three coaches have done.

Not sure it's a great move for RSL, but we're getting pretty good at bad moves.

RSL is excellent at bad moves. Like heading into Detroit Lions like bad moves.

If given the choice I wouldn't take either Freddy or Pablo.

At least one of these guys can actually coach a team though. Pablo at least had an identity. His teams were incredibly tough on defense but just couldn't score if memory serves. Freddy's teams can't do anything with any consistency except suck so 6 of one half a dozen of the other but I would take the other.

Is it? Houston underperformed just as bad as RSL, sure. They have ownership woes too. But the potential of Houston is always talked about as the abundance of talent literally in the area around it. A bigger metro, with the ability (under the right ownership) to really make a splash and get his name moved along. And learning under Tab Ramos seems a bit better than Freddy Juarez, but what do I know...

Honestly, this move is one I am having a hard time stomaching if true. I got used to the idea of KB on the team and then fell in love with him. But his ability as a player was never the thing in question, it was just that he played for the rival. This guy played for and managed the rival, and did so really poorly. We're getting leftovers of the cRapids that aren't even good leftovers. Nobody wants the green beans on Black Friday...

I also wonder how it is possible without an ownership group. If Fall is truly in the dark as much as we are about ownership search, how can he go fill in coaching roles? I thought those salaries were paid by individual ownership, not the league.

Feels like Pablo is playing the long con. He can't stick it to us as a Rapids player or coach anymore so why not hop into the pilot's seat and be the agent of our own destruction?

Sleeper spy! He is being put into place to bring RSL down!

    Nah.

He could be there to KEEP RSL down though. It's tough to get any lower than we are right now. Ownership in flux, horribly run team with no philosophy of any kind to speak of, miserable coaching from a guy who cant' count to 5 and gets more leniency than a billionaire fighting a traffic ticket for all of his suckitude.

Here's a thought to wet blanket the start of 2021. What if the league doesn't have a buyer for RSL after January 8th? With all of the financial woe facing the league at the moment would it be more economical to simply mothball RSL for a season rather than try and run the thing without an owner for a year? Or even worse, just contract the team?

Hopefully things change for the better and RSL is bought by a capable and non misogynistic, non racist, owner/group and we all can all get back to bitching about an awful team trying to rebuild.

    Happy New Year!

do we need any help with that? Lest we forget, Freddy found a way for this team to lose 5-0 AT HOME to lose the RMC.

the players salaries are paid by the league. If the league made that decision, I imagine they would be left holding the bag on the stadium bond and other funding.

it makes too much sense to try and find a new ownership group that is willing to infuse capital rather than retract the team. The league went into retraction before when there wasn't ownership groups lining up to get in. We are not in the early 00's version of this league anymore

******** Freddy on this decision. All of the stats, and the eyeball test, point to Glad being the right option. This talk of "matchups" can go ******** off. Glad should be the first CB on the team, period. That Freddy wasn't absolutely grilled about this is just another notch in the many of how pathetic the journalists are that cover this team.

I've also heard from more than one person that Justen gets down mentally, beats himself up too much, and spirals. I don't know how that might factor into game day decisions or what that looks like in practice.

If that is the case then it’s just one more example of how incompetent Freddy is at motivating and supporting players.

This team needs a new owner that will completely overhaul it from top to bottom. Especially when it comes to coaching and culture.

Yes they are but if the league can void the CBA they could certainly use the same reasoning to cancel contracts. They could hold a contraction draft and if players aren’t taken they then become available to the other teams or something screwy that’s totally MLS.

I agree it makes so much more sense to keep the team and find a qualified buyer that will invest and turn RSL around but these are rather interesting times.

I really hope that they find an owner quickly. I would hate to suffer through a season run by the league and the utter incompetents that are in charge now.

It would definitely be rather entertaining in an incredibly morbid and self immolating way.

sounds like the qualities of a player you sign to a 4 year contract at big numbers to...

Not saying the it's untrue, but it's obviously not enough of an issue to continue to employ him at a very significant cap hit. It also speaks to the need, if true, of the club to have a better sports psychologist

How much of a cap hit was it? We usually don't see numbers for 6+ months.

Glad is super worth it. Pay the man. Play the man.

Word on the street... They are finally addressing this after years of brushing it aside. Cassar... Petke.... Freddy got it right.

It's really weird to consider that Freddy has been THE coach of a bunch of RSL academy guys under 22, and he didn't do a great job utilizing them in 2019. I don't know what that means, but it doesn't look good.

I'm on record saying I'd be stoked if we are lockstep with Dallas in cranking out academy projects for sale. We don't win many trophies, but we get to see elite talent on the rise.

I want to see some opinions on what RSL should do with their remaining roster spots. Right now, they have 25 players. I would be surprised if they have more than one non-senior roster spot available. One DP spot is available. They look to have 3 international roster spots available. Rubin makes 26. 3rd GK would be 27.

You can trade players, but be realistic (unless you're trading Schmitt or Portillo for nothing, that's ok) with what you get in return.

As much as I don't like waiting for player news, I think I'd wait for the new ownership to sign off on spending as much money as possible. To keep it simple, I'd use the DP spot on a high level striker, preferably a Mexican national team quality player. The other 2 spots would be a max TAM CB and LB.
I'd pay Montreal or Vancouver to take Morgan with a future 3rd round pick in return. We'd have one senior roster spot and international slot left.

I don't know what to do with the high draft pick (still don't know how Chicago got 6th and we got 7th, Chicago had worse GA, but better GF and GD) that RSL gets this year. I think we need all the talented youth we can get, but I don't know if we have a roster spot to use. Also, we don't have a good history with high picks. I think Beltran is the one good one. I would definitely take draft pick over Portillo and Schmitt, but I don't know if it's realistic to get those two off the roster.

it is purely speculation from me, but I would guess he is in the same ballpark he was before: $350K
