You already see a bond between the two has been established. I honestly think that if Mourinho moved somewhere in year or two hypothetically, Son will want to move with him

Well deserved. It was a world class goal. Vertonghen had a hilarious tweet about it.

Honestly I think his finishing is here to stay. Over the years we've been able to expect hot flashes of SHM and then he goes cold for long periods of time, but he's smart and technical enough now to have an impact game in and game out.

Imo the reason he won't get Golden Boot is that our midfield keeps getting run over no matter who we put in there. A bit of pressure and the team is completely rendered unable to hold possession and to make an attack. There's just no way this should be happening vs CP and weaker teams.

I thought Suarez would win but I think anyone could've taken it. SHM's goal is ridiculous tbh

Just came across Twitter feeds about Sonny's Puska award and as usual many sour butthurt South American fans all whining that Arrascaeta and Suarez were robbed.

It is so typical that the traditional footballing world still cannot get over the fact that Koreans are on the up. I say get over it and move on and stop being such sour little grapes.

    :p

If they bring in another mid (Mou asked for one), who would you have him replace in your opinion?

Its a fitting award for a goal that takes some inspiration from the great DM but with a modern take with speed and power.

Saurezs goal was pretty insane though. There were a few on the wider list that I thought were equally impressive.

suarez goals insane but messi or ronaldo has never done a solo goal from 80 meters/ near the own teams box. this is what makes it better than suarez. son has done a heel goal before. suarez curved it in but hey son can do that if he needed to.

I think a legitimate argument could be made that Son's goal, while looking impressive, was more due to abysmal defending than anything he did spectacularly (in the end, he did just run in a straight line). Suarez's goal though, how the fk can any defender/gk reasonably stop that?

You are saying as if it requires 0 skills to do what Son did. Have you even played football in real life in competitive matches? Running in a straight line? lol. It's pretty difficult to stop a player sprinting that fast. It looks easy, but not really when you actually play against one, esp when it is not expected at all.

I don't know which midfielder you're talking about, but Spurs have been linked to Sabitzer which I really like, he's creative and smart and has been huge for Leipzig. I've seen all of Leipzig's CL games and he seems like the real deal--only problem is that he's unlikely to move in January as the team is advancing in the CL. He's also the one who scored twice vs Tottenham earlier this year in their 3-0 win in the CL lol

Ahh you said that Tott's mid keeps getting run over and that they're looking to bring in Sabitzer. I'm assuming you would have him replace Siss since Hoj and Ndo seem to have locked down the other two spots? Siss brings a nice physical presence, but watching him pass is painful. Same with Dier (esp when pressed).

Don't think Mourinho would replace Sissoko with Sabitzer, the austrian is too attacking for that, Sissoko do an important job in Mourinho's system despite his flaws. I see Sabitzer if signed more as a challenger for Bergwijn/Lucas, and a squad replacement if Dele Alli leaves.
Sissoko can be upgraded if we find a similar physical player with better passing game and technique, and probably have to be sooner or later given he's 31. The closest player to him we've been linked with is Franck Kessie from Milan. Not sure what role he'd take, but many believe we'd show interest in Boubakary Soumaré from Lille again, as they and the french league overall is in financial difficulties. Maybe he'd suit us more than Harry WInks, who's talked about potentially leaving. Gedson already said to return to his club in january.

A challenge for the transfer dealings however is the rules for home grown players, we're already pushing the limit.

Yeah, I’ve played at an ok level (D1 college, but not a very good one) and the last thing you do is dive in when you can just control the space and keep him from accelerating inside. Those challenges were awful and it was really dreadful defending.

Look, I’m not saying the goal wasn’t great, but I’d honestly say that his recent banger against Arsenal was more impressive because there was really nothing that the goalkeeper could have done much better and I don’t think the defenders can be blamed too harshly for letting him shoot from that far out.

Suarez’s goal was incredible because I honestly can’t think of another goal like that, where a back heel just curls past the keeper from that far out.

Umm..son has scored goals like the one againt arsenal numerous times in his career. E.g. just check his bundesliga highlights and korea vs mexico. He hit one against Leicester too.

Its something he has up his sleeve and i wish he would try more often.

Nobody ever runs across the field in europes top 4 leagues and does what son did.

Yeah, I'm aware? I've been watching the guy play since he was at Hamburg. I'm saying that these strikes are to me more impressive than his puskas goal. This is an opinion.

There are a lot of great solo goals where players dribble past multiple opponents. I think like Bale's solo goal against Barca in the copa final (where he outpaces an injured Bartra), it's a great display of athleticism but I don't think it's super technically impressive (when compared to such goals from top top players like Messi, Robben, CR7 etc.).

Again, this is just my opinion as someone who played as a centerback in college soccer. I think it's far more impressive when he scores despite opponents not making mistakes.

it does take tremendous skill to pull off what Suarez did but it's more of a lucky ricochet and arrascaeta goal is awesome but he knew no one was around him...Wayne Rooney's was more impressive than his.

As for sonny, he turned nothing into something with pure speed and determination.

again, it's an opinion of mine

Burnley could have easily ended Son's run by doing a professional foul, and that's what most managers will tell his players to do. It was a surprise that he was allowed to run that far with a Burnley team in unbalance. When they don't foul him it's not easy to stop though, and there's certainly not many players who could do what Son did. That far, at that speed, without losing control of the ball. United fans are still talking about Ryan Giggs run against Arsenal in the 90s as best ever Premier League goal - and that was far less impressive and even worse defending.

I definitely agree on the Ryan Giggs bit. And I completely agree that it was still a pretty impressive goal from Son, and that there's only an elite few who can do that. I don't know how to make any more clear that it was still a great goal in my book.

I don't think Burnley had to necessarily stop him (although you would have definitely expected a professional foul, no idea why that didn't happen), but just stay on your feet, drop the line and force him outside. They gave him a super easy route directly towards goal by making those poor challenges (to be fair, they weren't the usual defenders since those guys were up for the corner).
I agree Suarez's goal was quite lucky, but I don't know why you're saying no one was around him? He had a defender on top of him closing down the shot, and he had the presence of mind to backheel it. The keeper was in good position to stop it too, but it had the perfect curve to beat keeper. It's pretty magical stuff IMO, and I don't like Suarez at all. But this is obviously a subjective award, and everyone has different opinions on what makes a great goal.
