Certainly devastating to his career. The absolute worst time for a year long injury. Just hope he can recover and have a decent career.

a 6-9 month injury is bad for sure and the timing is definitely brutal with him starting to make a breakthrough, but lets keep things a bit grounded here. players come back from these sorts of injuries all the time in 2020 and he has established hes eredivisie quality imo

In some cases an ACL tear is not a death sentence for a career. With improvements in surgical techniques, technology, and PT players can return to the player they were or even stronger than they were. Paul Arriola is a prime example. After 7 months out, he's return to the same Arriola we know. I hope with the tight community that is the USMNT, Paul and Richie connect. Richie may need some guidance and reassurances. I am so bummed for the kid but I have hope he'll be back stronger and batter than ever. It will just take patience and time.

  6. Nope, not necesary. Calvin Stengs returned as big a star as when he had a horrific knee injury.

Again, the injury itself? Not a *huge* deal. He should be able to be back at top level in a year.
    The issue is timing.
    -Olympics? Nope
-Wc qualifying? He’ll miss the first bit and then have to work his way into the team.
-Psv? He was just breaking in at 20. Will psv give him the same opportunity at 21 or incorporate 17-18 year olds? Who knows. But we all know who’s more valuable as a player/prospect.

If he's good enough for PSV at 20 he'll land on his feet fine somewhere if he can keep growing as a player despite the injury.

If he's good enough for the improving national team he'll have plenty of time to integrate with the team by December 2022 if he's back by September 2021.

Best of luck to him. This sucks.

The problem is that like Zelalem he didn't have a lot of margin to work with athletically. Hoping for the best but this is a major setback for his career. He'll play again but the range of outcomes for his career just got a lot worse.

Guys come back from these injuries all the time. It certainly isn't assured that he will get back to the same level of athleticism but I think the chances are good. The major issue for Richie is that he is missing giant opportunities both with his club team and w/ the USMNT and/or U23 Olympic Team. Poor kid. IMO, his ability to deftly touch the ball in tight spaces is top notch among our young players. He will be missed.

some players rely a lot on athleticism and some don't. Wingers do but playmakers don/t-but they must have great vision and technique. Richie MIGHT be one of those.

    Heartbreak. Really sucks.

  22. Indeed.
The coach was criticised for his substitution actions.
It now has become clear he did it with a clear view on the current idiotic schedule clubs/players have. So no matter what the situation around the 60 minutes mark was, he was going to sub a bunch of players to protect them.
Given this Richie was going to see alot of minutes as a sub.
    Shame this happened to him.
