...estará en casa pronto". El técnico luso respondió a la pregunta de cuando volverá a las canchas el delantero azteca: "Dejémosle descansar y ya veremos".— José Juan Vázquez (@josejuangelmx) December 4, 2020
Heard he's back home now from hospital, wish him well. As a risk manager I can't help but think about who we can call up in case the worst happens, who should we think about potential contingencies to replace him in NT? Start grooming a young player? go with proven players (hernandez?), my preference would be for somebody young. Risk manager's motto, plan for the worst, hope for the best.
I’m assuming he’s not returning. There’s no replacing him at this point so unless someone really steps up it’ll probably be a collection of guys getting chances. I like Henry Martin.
If Mexico played today, Martin would be starting, both based on form and that he's been the main backup for Raúl in the last few games. Behind him, the options woulc be Pulido, Macías (if he recovers his form, he leapfrogs everyone), Vega, Giménez and if you, like, really wanna reach, I guess you also have Chicharito's mortal remains, Ormeño or young guys like de la Rosa and Eduardo Aguirre. And we also have to femember that next year you'll also be able to call-up Funes Mori and Furch (though the latter's stock is fading fast).
Being fair, Henry Martín has been playing well for Mexico lately, a better supporting cast than Chivas' could potentialize Macías (which could happen with Tecatito and Chucky) and Funes Mori would fit well with Tata's system.
Just spit balling here, but how far down the pecking order would Tata have to go before he plays Tecatito Corona in Jiménez's position? He's played all over the place for Porto (not always with great results and he certainly doesn't have Raúl's aerial game). See here: https://www.footballcritic.com/jesus-manuel-corona/player-positions/24794. Osorio got crucified for playing guys out of position, so nail me to a cross for even saying this. But if Martín, Macías, Vega, etc., are so bad that we are going to lose anyway, then what do we have to lose?
We can score from the wings and outside the box. Martin should be good enough to put away goals. No, we won't have the poste distributor unfortunately and our attack will be one or twwo tricks, but we should be able to win with an average scoring forward.
Considering even Tecatito has publicly stated that finishing is one of his worst attributes, we'd be playing one of our best players in a position of weakness. I'd say we would have to be really far down the pecking order in order to utilize him there.
Agreed. People hate on him for that one friendly. Alexis, Ormeño and Macias are also great options off the bench. And eventually Chaco's kid.
If Jimenez doesn’t play again, we cannot rely on Macias or Gimenez or none of these younger guys for now. I think that if Funes Mori becomes an option, we need to call him up and have him be the starter. We need to have a proven and “veteran” striker and Funes Mori isn’t a bad player. I’m not a huge fan of Martin, but he’s not bad as a backup. I definitely don’t want Pulido, since he’s not an aerial threat.

Tbf, Martin’s assist a few weeks back was stupid good. The vision and touch was half the goal. I didn’t know he had that in him.
I'm just tired of having short strikers who can't win a dam single ball in the air and who are forced to fall over to get a foul when pressed by the opposing defenders disrupting the flow of play.
