Any time I've watched its clear they are one of the only teams in the league that has been able to maximize the downtime Covid presented. Other teams seem to have not been able to create a focus in that time, while the Crew became very very organized and figured it out.

I hate that it is Porter who is running the show, but kudos has to be given. They are far and away the best team in the league. Though, TFC and Philly are showing signs of revival after disappointing MiB Tournaments by what was expected of them.

Ironically, New York and Utah are pretty similar in Covid-19 cases. That's not taking into account the number of people in the respective states

I hate SKC. Absolutely despise them. Yet, this play serves as an example of how bad the MLS officiating is. The GK obviously grabs the SKC striker and pulls him to the ground. The Referee missed it. But, hey, we have VAR to review and correct these things. Right? Right? Nope. No VAR review. RSL was the recipient of two bad officiating decisions last night. In our minds, “Well, those offset the bad decisions that didn’t go our way against “X” and “Y”.” My take is that every MLS fan, player, and staff want accuracy. Why can’t PRO give us that?

Reggie Cannon’s replacement at Dallas is 3 years younger and already better. And when Reynolds eventually goes to Europe, his replacement, ‘03 Justin Che will probably be even better.

Whether or not you agree with me about this forecast, it’s the “03” part that hit me. Damn, I’m

    This one confuses me too.

As for the two in our game, my referee friends said that however they were called on the field is how VAR would have responded as they were grey enough that the "Clear and Obvious" standard would not come into play to overturn. Had Putna been called for a penalty, it would have stood; not being called a penalty also stands.

(I get no commission fro The Athletic, they just have loads of good MLS coverage.)

Here's an insightful, entertaining article from The Athletic about the life and times of our expansion brethren at Chivas USA. Terrific piece.

If you haven't seen it yet, go watch the Orlando/NYCFC shootout. Really you just need to pick it up at the 5th kick. That was... just wow

That shootout was wild and got crazier as it progressed. Definitely worth the watch.

I happened to turn the game on at the 2nd spot kick or so and felt pretty lucky about it.

I think I'm going to have to buy a Rodrigo Schlegel jersey. What an experience!

Also, this will never happen again after this year, since keeper's won't mandatorily be awarded yellows for coming off the line, I believe. Right?

Two things really: 1) yellows from the game won't carry over to PKs, and 2) you get a warning before getting a yellow. So a keeper would have to do it three times to get red carded.

Wow! And to think, most all Northern Hemisphere leagues are already on those rules, but MLS isn't because it starts in March instead of August.

I am slightly annoyed by this because MLS was given a perfect out, with how the 2020 season played out, to make an exception to that self imposed "we're using the 2019-2020 laws" shit. In a normal MLS year, yes, that would be a bit unfair to implement. But this season? Come on. Be smart about it.

What annoyed me, personally, was the commentators just dragging Allen Chapman for mismanaging the game. Chapman certainly holds a lot of the blame in this one, but when the commentators don't know the nuance of the rules and also celebrate Orlando winning without actually being ahead in sudden death... well it loses it's validity.

The wild thing for me is just how long it took for VAR or whoever to get into Chapman's ear about not being able to make a sub in the penalties. And who thought you actually could? Like, that's not a new thing. Refs make a big stink about "make sure the guys you want to take penalties are on the field in over time" because of it. Why did they all have this massive brainfart and think you could sub? Nobody in that building was going to blink an eye at it. Not the refs, not the players, not even NYCFC. I was so confused when they all were just like "yeah, sure, why not, lets do a sub now" and let it go on for THAT long.

The wild part was they let the sub on the field twice. Not just once and realized the error. Rowe got into goal, was pulled off the field, got into goal, and then pulled a second time. Watching Orlando's staff and the AR scramble to read the rules on their phones was just icing on the cake for the whole sequence.

I watched the Orlando v New England game today, and a little of the CBus v Nashville game. Watching the Orlando game made me realize how bad RSL was this year. Oscar has Orlando passing and moving so well, kind of reminded me of the good RSL teams. Hopefully we don't suck quite as bad next year. If not, EMBRATSU!

New England is looking like a tournament juggernaut. Curious if they'll get past Columbus. If they do, I have them as favorites to win the whole thing.
