Biden is President - filling out the cabinet and beyond

He seems to have turned a corner. Still hospitalized, but off oxygen.

Meh.. not a fan.. if only because a Republican controlled Senate would never approve his replacement.

 

Lisa Monaco or Sally Yates at DOJ. I would prefer Yates but Monaco is solid as well.

Mitch is signaling that the courtesy that historically is given to first-term Presidents in naming their cabinets is gone. The nominees will need to please the taste of the Senate.

What's more, the worse that Republican politicians behave, the greater the persecution complex that Republican voters will have, and the more likely they are to primary any GOP politician who dares to work with Democrats, in any fashion.

I don't see any way out of this tunnel, except for electing enough Democrats so that the Republican politicians become unnecessary. I am open for suggestions, but I don't see how they can be reasoned with. The more that Biden gives, they more that they will request, and he won't get anything back in return.

 

One option would be for the House and Biden to directly attack Republican interests. Like, zero out farm subsidies for grains. Yes, there are farmers in blue and purple states like Cali and Vermont and Georgia and North Carolina, but they don't grow grains in those places. Write a bill changing the highway funding formula to favor densely populated states over empty squares. No, the Senate won't pass them, but a) it would be a shot across the bow about what the world might look like in 2023 if the Dems get the trifecta and b) moves the Overton Window on budget negotiations.

Yep, Tony Blinken seems to be the next SOS nominee. Joe is placing one close ally at State. TBF he is extremely qualified as well.

Jake Sullivan, an other Biden long time aide is going to be the NSA. Solid pick as well.

I've been thinking the same thing. There must be some stuff Biden can do by executive order to withhold money from Kentucky, South Carolina and any other state with an obstructionist senator.

 

Problematic is to put is mildly. I am seriously questioning the judgment of this Squad folks, at least 3 of them seems to be off their rockers. I still can't comprehend her point about the 1st Amendment. Who the F*** is going to trample on her rights to speak? She is a congressperson, FFS. Plain stupidity.

Funny part she was responding to a tweet by Faiz, Shakir, Bernie ex campaign manager, praising the nomination. Matt Duss, Bernie foreign policy adviser was very supportive as well.

This is a good choice. Tony has the strong confidence of the president-elect and the knowledge and experience for the important work of rebuilding US diplomacy.

I get that concern as well but still believe that minority while loud is not and will not take over the party. Biden's election is a clear sign they are a fringe. No doubt their voice is important but realism and pragmatism have prevailed this year and will likely continue for the foreseeable future.

 

Haha.....The party as a whole has been moving to the left. That is a slow process but it is happening and at the same time we need to keep people like your wife inside the tent. This is a balance that the Dems need to maintain to stay in power,

Agreed. It looks as though she is skeptical of the new pick. If she meant it to be a dig at the current guys and making it all about herself and her cause, then it still falls flat.
