He seems to have turned a corner. Still hospitalized, but off oxygen.

This would be so sweet, when he prosecutes the Trumps, LadyG and half the cabinet:

Meh.. not a fan.. if only because a Republican controlled Senate would never approve his replacement.

Lisa Monaco or Sally Yates at DOJ. I would prefer Yates but Monaco is solid as well.

“The Biden transition team is weighing attorney general contenders led by Lisa Monaco, who held key national security posts in the Obama administration, and Sally Yates, who gained fame when she was fired by President Trump,” Bloomberg reports.

“The choice of either would help President-elect Joe Biden achieve his goal of having women represented at the highest levels of his administration.”

“Monaco and Yates both had extensive careers inside the Justice Department and previously held positions that required Senate confirmation. But her history of tussling with the Trump White House might make Yates’s approval harder if the Senate is still controlled by Republicans.”

Mitch is signaling that the courtesy that historically is given to first-term Presidents in naming their cabinets is gone. The nominees will need to please the taste of the Senate.

    https://news.yahoo.com/republican-resistance-looms-senate-bidens-150817442.html

What's more, the worse that Republican politicians behave, the greater the persecution complex that Republican voters will have, and the more likely they are to primary any GOP politician who dares to work with Democrats, in any fashion.

I don't see any way out of this tunnel, except for electing enough Democrats so that the Republican politicians become unnecessary. I am open for suggestions, but I don't see how they can be reasoned with. The more that Biden gives, they more that they will request, and he won't get anything back in return.

One option would be for the House and Biden to directly attack Republican interests. Like, zero out farm subsidies for grains. Yes, there are farmers in blue and purple states like Cali and Vermont and Georgia and North Carolina, but they don't grow grains in those places. Write a bill changing the highway funding formula to favor densely populated states over empty squares. No, the Senate won't pass them, but a) it would be a shot across the bow about what the world might look like in 2023 if the Dems get the trifecta and b) moves the Overton Window on budget negotiations.

Yep, Tony Blinken seems to be the next SOS nominee. Joe is placing one close ally at State. TBF he is extremely qualified as well.

Jake Sullivan, an other Biden long time aide is going to be the NSA. Solid pick as well.

I've been thinking the same thing. There must be some stuff Biden can do by executive order to withhold money from Kentucky, South Carolina and any other state with an obstructionist senator.

Problematic is to put is mildly. I am seriously questioning the judgment of this Squad folks, at least 3 of them seems to be off their rockers. I still can't comprehend her point about the 1st Amendment. Who the F*** is going to trample on her rights to speak? She is a congressperson, FFS. Plain stupidity.

Funny part she was responding to a tweet by Faiz, Shakir, Bernie ex campaign manager, praising the nomination. Matt Duss, Bernie foreign policy adviser was very supportive as well.

    I was being VERY understated.

It's a real problem. My wife and I were talking about this last night. She does not share my optimism that eventually the political moderates (Note: I'm making a distinction between being politically vs. ideologically moderate here) will come out on top. She fears that the progressives are the wave of the future. With the GOP already in the grip of Trumpism for the foreseeable future, that would just about seal the fate of the Republic if BOTH parties were fully committed to my-way-or-the-highway ideological bomb-throwing. A future in which the majority of Americans would be essentially shut out by both major parties would not be sustainable.

I get that concern as well but still believe that minority while loud is not and will not take over the party. Biden's election is a clear sign they are a fringe. No doubt their voice is important but realism and pragmatism have prevailed this year and will likely continue for the foreseeable future.

That was my case, but my wife thinks it's generational. I think she's wrong but in fairness my wife is kinda naturally a moderate center-right person who votes Democrat because the GOP is insane; she has a tendency to project everything she hates about American liberalism onto the Democrats as a whole. :)

Haha.....The party as a whole has been moving to the left. That is a slow process but it is happening and at the same time we need to keep people like your wife inside the tent. This is a balance that the Dems need to maintain to stay in power,

Tlaib is talking about the BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanction) movement which targets investment in Israel as a tool of helping Palestine. The current Secretary of State (Pompeo) and the current administration have been calling the BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanction) movement illegal. Several US states have passed laws outlawing BDS - basically saying that if you are invested in Israel, you can't un-invest if you disagree with their policies. That's clearly in opposition to the first amendment, even if you don't believe that money is speech - the US government or a state government can't tell you that you must continue investing in Israel if you don't want to any more.

Anyways, here's what current Secretary of State Pompeo had to say about the BDS movement this week (summary: he said the movement is anti-Semitic) (spoiler: it's not):

    https://www.nytimes.com/2020/11/19/world/middleeast/pompeo-bds-golan-heights-west-bank.html

This is what Tlaib is responding to. Is it still problematic?

She's University of Chicago in theoretical physics, who had to help to pay for her education because her family wasn't loaded, so she fixed cars at a Hyde Park auto repair shop while she was a student. I love it.

All good but besides her point....What does this has to do with HER 1st Amendment rights? She is a congresswoman, FFS. Does she think the new SoS will put a sock in her mouth? Not to mention the timing of this bizarre outburst.
As I mentioned above, even the Bernie team was praising the pick, starting with Faiz himself, who is a muslim american. It is beyond problematic, it is ill timed, ill conceived and totally ridiculous.

Agreed. It looks as though she is skeptical of the new pick. If she meant it to be a dig at the current guys and making it all about herself and her cause, then it still falls flat.

Twitter isn't the best place to put a comment like that out there. There's a bunch of nuance around the statement, and we just don't seem to be equipped to handle it.
