I don't know what hope to hang my hat on. The Supporters' Shield curse? Philly being perfect at home and due for a setback? Blake perhaps not ready to go? Sixth time the charm? Our DPs all being healthy and seemingly in form? All of the above? I don't have big expectations for an upset, but at the same time I wouldn't be totally shocked if it happened. The boys will have to be near perfect to pull it off.

I'm not ready for the season to end. Fingers crossed.

What's the story with Bye and Büttner? I thought I heard a mention of an injury to one or both during the broadcast, but I'm not sure. Bye was a disaster against PHI last time, so I feel like they have his number.

Of course, no word from the Revs about Buchanon. If he's not able to go, that's a big blow and if Bye and Büttner can't go ... Rowe at right back?

There was a report that a Rev's starter tested positive for Covid, one of them maybe??

Based on all available info it seems like Buttner is the player positive. Diego was called a healthy scratch during the broad cast and Bye was mentioned to be dealing with a hamstring issue.

Buttner is the only other player regularly making game day rosters that didnt have any explanation for not being included

I read somewhere (and can't find it now) that Diego wasn't even in the traveling squad for this one. So yeah, he's gone after this season.

A few things that may work in our favor -

    • Blake is said to be ready to play, but it hasn't even been a month since the date of his injury (tomorrow is 4 weeks). I can't imagine the bone(s) is fully healed yet. So let's test him. This is the type of situation where we could sneak in a goal after a mishandled shot.
    • PHI hasn't played since Decision Day against us - more than two weeks since a competitive game. Can we get an early jump on any rustiness they may have to work out?
    • Although Bunbury is on a cold streak it feels like historically in playoff matches he seems to pull of some ridiculous goal/play. Please repeat this pattern.

Really hoping we can finally get the better of PHI!

Yeah, but a guy who has barely played all season makes me pretty nervous. The one time he did play, didn't give me a lot of confidence - not that it's a knock on him; it's impossible to stay in game shape w/o games.

I wonder if anyone from Revs II is eligible to be brought into the squad? At least for the bench.

I agree with the approach - we have to attack. And, to do that, we have to find ways to get Gil the ball as often as possible.

    ---

The Revs game preview expected lineup has Buchanon at right back again - so, hopefully that means he's fit and available.

Im nervous of any combination of Polster, TMac, or Caldwell at DM. Has not worked at all in all the previous attempts against Phil, and it won't work today either. We have zero attack when we cannot move the ball forward and none of those 3 can create anything. I'll probably get attacked on this but I wanted to see Bou bumped outside and Lee as AM. Yes I'm a Lee fan but I did see the game turn around when he came on the field last Friday. Those that want to see Gil get the ball more? We all know who can make that happen. At AM, he could focus on passing and creating and not have to worry as much about defense.

I do know that if Arena doesnt do something bold, we're done tonight. Making no changes will be a mistake if thats what he does. If he truly does leave Diego off the roster... another dumb move. We saw how poor Polster was outside last Friday and if Tajon can't go... Diego would be a better option. Not now apparently

Polster+Tommy looked great last week. They were doing amazing moving the ball forward. It fell to pieces when they moved Matt to RB and asked him play like Tajon (he cant), and then had Caldwell next to Tommy (too defensively soft).

I think Lee as an 8 definitely makes us more attacking, but Lee + Caldwell is a recipe for disaster against the Union's narrow diamond. The formation is already at a deficit trying to defend 3v4, but having those guys specifically feels like the least solid group against Martinez/Monteiro/Bedoya/Aaronson.

seen the starting lineup and I guess you can say about Arena...if something doesnt work, just keep trying it. Pretty close to the definition of insanity
