Perhaps not as nice a beach though.

Kudos to Vålerenga for their consistency and Rosenborg for never tasting defeat. Both very worthy medalists if it spins it that way. After this season you get the feeling the skies the limit for next season as well, anything can happen. And likely will.

And kudos to Stabæk and Medkila for their consistency as well. Stabæk could be a big part of that unpredictability next year as well.

You have to figure LSK will handle Kolbotn. Can Røa find a way past Arna-Bjørner to setup a one game loser take all? If Røa escape the drop it will be at the final breath after spending the entire season in the basement.

It would be quite the comeback. And if not, they'll go the route of their cousins to the west and retool and reposition for promotion in 2022.

Madness ensues in the penultimate round.

Winners and losers. Think I have this right but may have slipped a brain cell...

    Winners:

Lyn, a magical 3-2 upset of Vålerenga. Talk about a statement. Too legit to quit. Up to 6th place! The darlings of 2020.

Kolbotn, holding LSK to a draw and ensuring/cementing their status in the league in 2021.

    Losers:

Røa - held to a draw by the Bergen Bears and relegated. Røa struggled to score all year and it was one of their Achilles heels along with goalkeeping. Josephine Ervik was back in the pipes today and had yet another clean sheet, but the damage was at the other end of the field. If she re-signs and stays healthy, they just need to address their striking and should be back shortly.

Vålerenga - victims of the Lyn serendipity. Had the title in both their hands but have now taken a hand off. If Rosenborg win next week, Vålerenga need full points next week against Arna-Bjørnar or they cough up the crown.

Rosenborg - held to a draw by Sandviken. The highlights were wave after wave of RBK attacks but they were unable to finish. Emilie Bragstad got skinned by a reaching header for an own goal but she's a quality player who with good development and coaching will have a bright future and could be an important piece going forward for club and country.

The final match was a 3-0 win for Avaldsnes at home against Klepp. With a win next week combined with a tie or loss by the frontrunners (Vålerenga and Rosenberg), Avaldsnes can get to Europe. And given this weekend, it's not far fetched.

@law10 has already touched the big topics, but wow, what a season we are having. Toppserien is pretty much the only joyful thing about 2020. Experts nationwide agree that this is the most entertaining season ever.

    TOPPSERIEN 2020 – 17th Matchday

    Arna Bjørnar 0 – 0 Røa

It’s over. Røa, one of the culture clubs in Norwegian woso, are relegated. They have won five Toppserien titles and five NM Cup titles after twenty years in the top flight, but things have looked bleak pretty much since day one this season, and I’m not sure Røa are going to bounce right back up like Stabæk did. Røa are short on resources and therefore not a very attractive club to sign for compared with a few other Oslo clubs. Røa have to settle for second and third string talent, and even more so in the second league. And will the Geir Nordby coaching dynasty survive a relegation? This was a match between the two weakest forward lines in the league and quite fittingly it ended in a goalless draw. Arna Bjørnar must breathe a sigh of relief that their Toppserien contract is secured for next year before they travel to Oslo for the Vålerenga game next week.

    A-B (4-4-2): Edrud 7 – Erman 5, Gloppen 5, Lövgren 5, Takle Eide 4 – Brummel 5, Myrseth 5, Jåstad 5 (Risnes -), Bjelde 5 – Abrahamsen 4 (Rijsdijk -), Laupstad 6 (Ervik -).

    RØA (4-2-3-1): Ervik 6 – Lyshoel 5 (Aabel -), Suphellen 5, Masdal 6, Harviken 5 – Birkeli 4, Jørgensen 5 – Svastuen 5 (Roche -), Huseby 5, Fuglem 4 (Holum -) – De Courcy 4 (Espås -)

    Avaldsnes 3 – 0 Klepp
    1-0 Andrea Norheim 6
    2-0 Olaug Tvedten 50
    3-0 Holmfridur Magnusdottir 67

Avaldsnes boss Arne Utvik has still not offered coach Thomas Dahle an extended contract and that is a big mystery considering the team’s development and the great season they are having. It raises further question marks about what’s going on behind the scenes at that club with frequent changes of coaches. A comfortable win in the Rogaland derby today against Klepp has now brought Avaldsnes back in the title race before the final weekend. Olaug Tvedten had a top game and scored a brilliant goal from long range. Hanna Dahl, Toppserien’s assist leader and one of the most underrated players in the league, set up two more goals today. Also a first goal since 2017 for comeback queen Frida Magnusdottir. What a story it would be if Avaldsnes snatch the league trophy on the final day when Vålerenga and Rosenborg are all we have talked about this autumn.

    AVA (4-3-3): Esson 6 – Dahl 7, Decker 5 (Enlid -), Polkinghorne 5, Utvik 5 (Arnesen -) – Tennebø 6 (Magnusdottir -), Tvedten 8 (Molin -), Norheim 7 – Dirdal 5, Thorsnes 5, Ajibade 5 (Løvås -).

    KLE (3-4-3): Gay 5 – Østenstad 5, T.Hansen 5, Pedersen 5 (Brunes -) – S.Jensen 4, Andresen 4 (Aune -), D’Anjou 5, Sikora 3 (Skretting -) – Rogde 5, Karlsen 3 (H.Hansen -), Terland 4.

    Kolbotn 1 – 1 LSK Kvinner
    0-1 Ina Gausdal 3
    1-1 Jenny Norem 86

LSK are now on a four game run without a win in Toppserien. How are they going to cope in the Champions League in a few weeks when they struggle against all kinds of teams in Toppserien? Norway will send mid-table also-rans against the cream of Europe. Kolbotn managed a point and secured the relegation play-off spot. They avoided that potential nerve wrecking battle for survival against Røa next week. Substitute Jenny Norem scored an emotional equalizer after only three minutes on the pitch today. She has just come back after more than two years on the sideline with a double ACL injury.

    KOL (4-3-3): Ervik 6 – Orgill 5 (S.Haugland -), Nordahl 5, Hørte 4, B.Lund 6 – Eckhoff 5, Pirisi 5 (Brandt -), Holmen 6 – Hegg 6 (Christiansen -), Klæboe 5 (Norem -), Fridlund 5 (Elvebakken -).

    LSK (4-2-3-1): Norstrøm 5 – Dahlström 5, Gausdal 7, Vanhaevermaet 5, Woldvik 6 – Bachor 5, Ellingsen 6 – Kyvåg 5, Eide Lie 5 (Dekkerhus -), Haavi 6 – Haug 5 (Pedersen 6).

    Lyn 3 – 2 Vålerenga
    0-1 Janni Thomsen 44
    1-1 Camilla Linberg 58 (pen)
    2-1 Runa Lillegård 74
    2-2 Dejana Stefanovic 86
    3-2 Runa Lillegård 89

Vålerenga suffered their first defeat since the season opener and are now league leaders only on goal difference as this hiccup wasn’t taken full advantage of by Rosenborg. The biggest and most passionate Oslo derby had everything, but most people thought Vålerenga had the win in the bag when they took the lead right on half time. Lyn did everything they could to sabotage Vålerenga’s title bid, and they had the tools available to do it – on the bench. Lyn’s equalizer on a penalty looked like a mistake from the referee. Sigurdardottir tackled the ball, but there were no questions about the two goals from come-back substitute Runa Lillegård. Two superb individual goals from the 19 year-old on counter-attacks as Vålerenga pushed everybody forward. I rate Lillegård as the biggest Norwegian forward talent since Ada Hegerberg, although she is a different type of striker. Experienced Vålerenga defenders just couldn’t deal with her pace, power and dribbling 1v1. Lyn stay up and climb to sixth place. Didn’t see that coming before the season.

    LYN (4-4-2): Odden 7 – Bølviken 6, Jensen 7, Olsen 7, Closs 5 – Tunes 5 (Lillegård -), Gashi 5 (Bækkelund -), Hernes 5, Godø 6 – Linberg 7 (Tandberg -), Löfwenius 6 (Søyland -).

    VIF (4-3-3): Tompkins 4 – Thomsen 6, B.Pedersen 4, Sigurðardóttir 4, Tomter 5 – Spitse 7, Stefanovic 7, H.Hansen 5 (Njoya -) – Madsen 4 (Nygard -), Markussen 5 (Ildhusøy -), Jensen 5.

    Rosenborg 1 – 1 Sandviken
    1-0 Guro Bergsvand 18 (own-goal)
    1-1 Emilie Bragstad 45+1 (own-goal)

A bizarre match with two own goals in the televised NRK match. Rosenborg missed Cesilie Andreassen through injury in this game and moved Julie Blakstad into her position right behind the striker. Elin Sørum limped off injured too. Is Rosenborg’s non-rotation policy going to bite them in the back in the run-in? Blakstad had a very good game, and hit the inside of the post on one occasion, but didn’t score today. Yet another disappointing draw at home for Rosenborg, their fifth in nine matches. There were some big chances wasted which made the scoreline even more bitter when the result from the Vålerenga match was announced.

    RBK (4-2-3-1): Nøstmo 5 – Næss 5, Bragstad 5, Vårhus 6, Minde 7 – Sørum 6 (Døvle -), Joramo 5 – Utland 5, Blakstad 7, Fornes 5 (Hernes -) – Clausen 4 (Nergård -).

    SAN (4-4-2): Bogstad 5 – Ryland 6, Spord 6, Bergsvand 5, Hjelmhaug 5 – H.Jensen 5 (Neset -), Veivåg 4, Naalsund 5, Hasund 6 – Engesvik 5 (Veglo -), Raa 4.

    - Avaldsnes coach Thomas Dahle has indeed extended his contract for two more years. I missed a news update yesterday. Good for Avaldsnes with stability in that department for a change.

    - Vilde Bøe Risa was crowned Swedish champion in Damallsvenskan with Kopparbergs Göteborg yesterday after a 7-0 win away at Linköping. Vilde scored two goals. It's her first league title.

    - Big day also in the second league today. Medkila grabbed the promotion play-off spot after beating Amazon Grimstad 1-0 away because Hønefoss and Øvrevoll Hosle both dropped points in their games. Kolbotn and Medkila will battle it out over two legs for the remaining Toppserien contract for 2021. Dates yet to be announced.

    - Stabæk pummeled bottom club Fart 6-1 including another hat-trick from Melissa Bjånesøy. It will be interesting to see what the newly promoted team can do against Vålerenga when the Toppserien leaders come to Nadderud for an NM Cup quarter-final on Wednesday night.

Two NM Cup quarter-finals played today:

    Avaldsnes 1 – 0 Arna Bjørnar
    1-0 Thorsnes 12

A-B have sent a protest to NFF hoping for a re-match regarding an incident in injury-time. The referee blew her whistle for time-wasting when Avaldsnes keeper Victoria Esson kept the ball in her hands for too many seconds, but instead of giving an indirect free-kick to Arna Bjørnar in the penalty box, the referee dropped the ball for Esson who picked it up again like nothing had happened. Everyone was confused. The referee later admitted her mistake. NFF’s verdict in this case will come within a few days.

    LSK Kvinner 1 – 0 Rosenborg
    1-0 Justne Vanhaevermaet 6

A first ever loss for Rosenborg in a competitive match. They missed a couple of injured key players (Emilie Bragstad and Elin Sørum) and reshuffled some positions a bit in the starting line-up, but created very few scoring chances. Disappointing game. May be they had Sunday’s big league showdown in the back of their minds. Finally an uplifting result for LSK after much despair lately. LSK were very aggressive in this match. You could almost see it meant more to them tonight.

    Tomorrow's quarter-finals:

    Sandviken – Røa
    Stabæk – Vålerenga

Well, a similar incident sent USA in the final of Olympics 2002 at the expense of Canada: different standards?

I think it was 2012 and Christina Pedersen. And yes, good memory, they shot and I believe it hit someone's arm close to their body but it was called handball and the penalty was the winner.

Sorry, sorry, guys! I typed a 0 instead of an 1 and see what happens!!! :notworthy: I am doing this kind of mistakes more and more often lately, probably due to the fact that I can't stand anymore having to work from home through my PC during this pandemic.

I meant 2012, non 2002! London Olympics! I was referring to the incident when Canadian GK kept the ball for too long in te semifinal and Wambach counted the second in referee's ear, thus prompting her to call an indirect FK in the box for USA that revealed crucial for their comeback.

And the two remaining quarter-finals today:

    Sandviken 2 – 1 Røa
    1-0 Rakel Engesvik 5
    2-0 Ida Holm Neset 18
    2-1 Ragne Svastuen 35

Sandviken’s second goal was controversial. It is questionable whether the ball crossed the goal-line or not after a goal-mouth scramble. None of the cameras available confirmed that it did, but the referee trusted her assistant referee and gave the goal.

    Stabæk 1 – 2 Vålerenga
    0-1 Ajara Njoya 7
    1-1 Ingibjörg Sigurdardottir 35 (own-goal)
    1-2 Sigrid Heien Hansen 40

The champions in the second league hosted the Toppserien leaders. Well fought by Stabæk against Vålerenga, who seemed more determined to sit back and protect their lead and save energy for Sunday than to play entertaining and attacking football. A beautiful long range goal by Hansen secured the win in the rain.

    Semi-final draw:
Vålerenga – Avaldsnes (or may be Arna Bjørnar if there is a rematch)
    LSK Kvinner – Sandviken

Matches to be played 21/22 November.

The Euro qualifier Norway vs Faroe Islands (Nov 26) is cancelled according to NRK. The guests have nothing to play for and Norway are already qualified, and with covid-19 also an increasing problem in Norway, both federations agreed to cancel the match after consulting UEFA.

Edit: The Faroe game is postponed, not cancelled. The England friendly, due to be played December 1, is sadly cancelled, so Norway's WNT will not play any more games in 2020.

    Last matchday of Toppserien postponed!

It was only a matter of time, wasn't it? Six Arna Bjørnar players in quarantine as they await test results.

Only Røa - Kolbotn will go ahead as planned tomorrow because it doesn't influence the top.

    TOPPSERIEN 2020 – 18th Matchday

Only one match played today due to the corona postponements. New dates for the other games on the final matchday are still not out.

    Røa 2 – 0 Kolbotn
    1-0 Ragne Svastuen 21
    2-0 Tuva Espås 45+1

Nothing at stake but pride in this game between two historic giants in Norwegian woso, but who in recent years rather have been part of the supporting cast in the Toppserien show. Relegated Røa signed off from top flight league football with a win against a toothless Kolbotn. This might well have been the end of the 23 year long Geir Nordby epoch at Røa. The veteran coach has hinted of leaving, but is still hungry for another job opportunity and might have a new club lined up behind the scenes. A Toppserien season without Nordby barking out orders on the sideline would be very odd. Kolbotn might have the Medkila play-offs in mind, but the performance today hardly built up any confidence before the two upcoming games for survival.

    RØA (4-4-2): Nilsen 6 – Masdal 6, Suphellen 6, Aabel 5, Harviken 6 – Ness 6 (Fuglem -), Jørgensen 7, Huseby 5 (Terry -), Espås 7 (Haugen -) – Holum 6 (De Courcy -), Svastuen 6 (Arnesen -).

    KOL (4-3-3): Ervik 4 – Elvebakken 4, Nordahl 4, Hørte 4, B.Lund 6 – Brandt 4 (Møller 5), Eckhoff 5, Kizer 5 (Jørgensen 5) – Hegg 5 (Sørbo -), Klæboe 5 (Christiansen -), Fridlund 6 (Norem -).

The pro/rel play-off dates are announced as well:

    22 Nov (13:00): Kolbotn – Medkila
    25 Nov (19:00): Medkila – Kolbotn

Arna Bjørnar’s appeal for an NM Cup QF replay against Avaldsnes has been turned down by NFF.

New dates are out for the last Toppserien matchday and cup final. Barring other postponements, the Norwegian fixture list will look like this for the remainder of the year:

Nov 19 (12:00): Gintra - Vålerenga (CL qualifier 2nd round)
    Nov 21 (16:00): LSK Kvinner - Sandviken (NM Cup semi-final 1)
    Nov 22 (16:00): Vålerenga - Avaldsnes (NM Cup semi-final 2)
    Nov 22 (13:00): Kolbotn - Medkila (Pre/rel play-off 1st leg)
    Nov 25 (19:00): Medkila - Kolbotn (Pre/rel play-off 2nd leg)
    Nov 26/30: International week
    Dec 06 (13:00): Toppserien MD 18
Dec 08/09: Champions League Round of 32 (1st leg)
Dec 13 (13:00): NM Cup final
Dec 15/16: Champions League Round of 32 (2nd leg)

Certainly not ideal with the CL games jammed in between cup final and Toppserien climax.

Vilde Bøe Risa with the Damallsvenskan trophy which Kopparbergs Göteborg won for the first time. Looks like stolen property from the geography room in school to me! :p

I've seen worse trophies. Not many, admittedly, but this one is maybe not the absolute bottom of the barrel. :giggle:

Youth football in Norway between 13-19 comes to a standstill:

"The Oslo City Council on Monday decided to ban indoor leisure activities and grassroots sports for young people.

    * Prohibition of indoor organized leisure activities for young people between 13 and 19 years of age. This means that activities in, for example, choirs, corps, theater, scouts, dance and organizations must cease. The ban will not apply to children of primary school age.

Prohibition of indoor grassroots sports for young people between 13 and 19 years. This means that training in, for example, football, gymnastics, handball, volleyball and athletics must cease. The ban will not apply to children of primary school age or outdoor sports. The ban will also not apply to those who do top sports, but are under 20 years old."

The girl she flattened in this clip was Emilie Lein, the daughter of Rosenborg's coach. Lein is some kind of star on social media with roughly two million followers on TikTok and came on as a late sub in this game. I guess Ballisager wanted to make a statement. :D

Two million followers! Wow, what a payday.

Klepp captain Tuva Hansen and Elisabeth Terland transfer to Sandviken. Nick Loftus has his work cut out to fill those big gaps next year.
