This is possibly one of our biggest league games since Burnley away under Pochettino when we had a chance to close a gap to two points in February 2019, rushed Kane back too early, and lost. We have more players available in our squad now. Despite injuries and playing in Europe, no reason why we can't win 1-0.
West Brom have been a bit of a bogey team for us. We have only lost 4 of the last 24 against them, but there have been 11 draws during that stretch, including a costly 1-1 at WHL late in the 2015-16 season, a result which killed our title hopes. I know everyone goes on about the infamous Battle of the Bridge at Chelsea, but it was really the result against the Baggies that killed us. And the last season we played them, 2017-18, we only took 1 of a possible 6 points even though they got relegated.
A draw is a possibility, as is a loss, but if Mourinho can't win these games then it is pointless hiring him as manager. Goal difference says we ought to be winning it by 2 but I'm going 1.
We're a confident lot, aren't we? And we know what that usually portends. I too remember multiple disappointments against the Baggies, including a ridiculously unfair loss in 17-18 when they were fighting relegation. I wonder if home/away advantage is going to be different without fans. You'd think it would, but there is still the travel of course for visitors and the familiarity for the home team. But when I predict I think a bit more positively about away games than I would. Someone will do a PhD on it, I'm sure.
For a few hours at least. This was the all-star line up pretty much, and still it was a struggle. We have to be better against teams that sit back.
Imagine a contest where your opponent looked to have the upper hand early and you had to wait... ....and wait... ....and wait to get satisfaction. Glad nothing else like that happened this week.
Teams have adjusted against us and are sitting back - we are missing Lo Celso to control the game. We looked more dangerous in attack once he came on. I know he has been recovering from injury, hopefully he can get back up to speed.
