He accused a political rival of paying a woman $1Million to file a false sexual harassment claim against him. This was later proven to be untrue. That’s a big, bright red flag. https://www.sltrib.com/news/politics/2018/08/13/utahs-biggest-individual/
yeah, this isn't DLH 2.0, this sounds like someone else who says a lot of terrible things in a public setting
https://kutv.com/news/local/utah-ja...mISN8dgqcGpEvmOjMJJvkn7TR_bDNuHV9po4bKhXJVo9o Well son of a bitch. Ryan from Qualtrics buying the Jazz. Would he buy RSL too or is this an FU to DLH.
Well... I guess now there's no conflict of interest if the Millers want to buy RSL now? What a year this is, I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.
******** 2020. RSL deserves to be owned by a quality owner. We deserve a quality owner. FU DLH you racist piece of shit and horrible owner who could have sold to Ryan from Qualtrics but you dicked him around and now he's taking a dump on your coin collection. Come on! There aren't enough episodes of Ted Lasso to get me through the rest of the year.
The Millers still own the Bees. We could become part of their minor league empire now. Talk about an RSL-related kick in the shins.
Does Smith have deep enough pockets to buy both? I don't think Smith was ever going to be presented with a better opportunity to buy an NBA team. The Miller Family is struggling with how their businesses are setup. The league TV numbers were down this last year. It was perfect for him. I can't blame him for buying the lambo compared to our ford focus
I read the sell included the Bees For a fun reminder in doing your homework before commenting, read through the comment section. jesus christ...
Hmm, the KUTV story says this: "Larry H. Miller Dealerships, Larry H. Miller Real Estate, Prestige Financial Services, Salt Lake Bees, and Megaplex Theatres will remain part of the LHM Group."
Hmmmmm... KSL & KUTV have never gotten anything wrong before, so who knows? KSL article says "a management agreement with the Salt Lake Bees." So I guess Miller's still own it, but Smith's group will run it? Probably due to the real estate value. Also, this is definitely a "screw you!" to Dell Loy. Sadly, a well-deserved one. He just cut out several potential investors with this move.
Oof. Seems like troubling news to me as it potentially pulls the 2 most likely local owners off the table.
A key thing on the Smith buying Jazz/Miller Group stuff: Smith is majority owner now, not FULL owner. The Miller's are staying involved, just not as heavily invested/in charge "The Millers have agreed to sell the Jazz to Smith for $1.6 billion-plus, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported. The Larry H. Miller Group will retain a minority interest." Also, this quote brought to light something I didn't know: "The deal also includes Vivint Arena, the Salt Lake City Stars, as well as a management agreement with the Salt Lake Bees. Smith will also be purchasing The Zone Sports Radio Network in a separate transaction. The deal is not finalized but is expected to be done by the end of the year." DLH owns Broadway media which includes ESPN700. So... yeah, this is Smith really going at DLH and telling him to ******** off
This makes me sad. One billionaire trying to ******** over another billionaire who then tells the first to eat a bag of dicks and now we might lose RSL.
it begs the question what the ******** is taking the league so long with their "investigation"? If the league was in charge, hard to think they would have told Smith no a month or so ago. The Miller Family is out, no way they're flipping this cash into RSL - especially if it benefits DLH. Who is left?
Ryan flies his private jet to NBA games all the time, has for years. He loves the NBA. He's very passionate about it, and he's a very good leader who gets better every iteration, he'll make the Jazz even more competitive IMO.
Is there a chance that Kimball (interim Utah Soccer president who was president of Vivint Arena) convinced the Millers that RSL is a better investment?
I seriously doubt the Millers have interest in RSL. This move looks to be to shore up a business group that’s probably been pretty beat up over the pandemic. Anyone been to a movie lately? My wife and used to go to one or two a month and haven’t been since February. Not going anytime soon either. If RSL doesn’t get an owner like Ryan from Qualtrics, who I’m sure isn’t hideous, I will be even more pissed at DLH and just the thought of him makes my skin crawl now.
Interesting numbers. Ryan Smith had a reported net worth of $1.3B prior to this transaction. With a sell price of $1.6B, it would appear he's fully leveraged. Note: when Miller purchased the Jazz he was similarly leveraged. Clearly no room for another acquisition of reportedly $500M for RSL. Makes you wonder who is out there (left) that could pull this off. Can't be a long list.
That would be quite the walkback from his comments about selling... but so very on brand for DLH. I also think that the league will eventually step in if DLH hasn't sold... or at least I hope
I'm waiting for more details. He didn't buy the whole team as the Miller's are still minority owners. I'm sure his purchase results in the team being valued at $1.66B (I know he bought more than the team and arena).
His estimated net worth pre-purchase was around $1.3B. Let's make the conservative assumption that he owns 50.1% of the Jazz which is $831.6 million. That put's him in a highly leveraged position. I doubt he could get the funds to purchase RSL on top of that (not to mention that rumor has it he already tried to purchase RSL so there's probably some bad blood between Smith and that racist misogynistic piece of shit DLH). Best case scenario, MLS forces a sale in February and he purchases RSL with a group and owns 50.1%. Worst case scenario MLS forces a sale to the highest bidder and the team moves leaving Herriman and Sandy holding the bags for the Stadiums. I'm more on the pessimistic side and think RSLs game against SKC might be the last time the boys play in Utah.
Tony Jones says the Gail Miller is retaining a 20% stake. Makes the numbers harder to understand unless Mr. Smith is worth substantially more or there are more partners.
