Not according to the tech, which isn't shown on the broadcast and is all that really matters here. I definitely agree with this, but again this is built in. It does need adjustment, but it's the difference between something established to be ruled on automatically and is binary, vs something which is inherently subjective.
It's not beyond the realm of belief that Duncan "King Yard Dog" Ferguson reminded the Everton players to play to the edge and leave a foot in etc. That's the first derby in a while I can recall them committing so many bad tackles. I definitely understand playing hard, giving it you all etc. - but I wasn't impressed with the shit they did today.
My eyes didn't deceive me - we battered and dominated them only to have a victory stolen from us. http://www.soccer-blogger.com/2020/...-17-2020-expected-goals-shots-map-efc-vs-lfc/
What's more shocking is that on replay - and I mean the realtime version of a replay - there is Pickford and VVD. No one else - the ref has a clear view. VAR has a clear view. Pickford is well known as being rash and reckless - he leapt at VVD with his leg well off the ground in some sort of weird starfish effort and scissored VVD at the KNEES. The KNEES. How VAR didn't find that a red card is mind boggling. How Michael Oliver didn't see it in real time is embarrassing. https://theathletic.com/news/jordan...erton-liverpool/7tGZAZiHXnnl?source=twitteruk The subjective part of VAR is great, isn't it? Maybe let Oliver take a look at that one too and let him see the play on the pitchside monitor?
This game will go down in history as the example of why VAR is broken from its original intention. VAR is a thick condom. It's "safe" at the expense of the sheer joy we get from this game.
Everton - not only top of the table after 5 games but they also lead the league in xHT. *xHT - Expected Horror Tackles
Is that really crazy that's not a straight red? It's awkward sure and a possible red... but seems plausible this could be called a yellow to me. They should have checked it either way, refs ********ed that up. Yet again.
For me, as well as everybody else who had their eyes open at the time every crappy reporter who saw it. Even the motor mouthed comms Arlo White and the never wrong ex Arse pundit. Oh and Me! Called it a red card. Arlo White said it looked worse each time he saw it. I have yet to see any report by any pundit who thought it was less than a Red Card and a penalty. NBCSport. Pickford so lucky to not see red, as Liverpool sweat on Van Dijk injury: He should have been sent off and the PGMOL have admitted they didn’t check for a red card challenge as they were too busy looking at offside for the incident in question. Pickford was a lucky boy and Liverpool will now be sweating on Van Dijk’s fitness. He walked off on his own, so that’s promising. When it come to Pickford, if he had sworn at the referee at half time or when play had stopped he would have been sent off, so why wasn’t he sent off for that horror challenge on the pitch.
Are you kidding?? Launching feet first in a completely uncontrolled way knee height at an opponent... could plausibly be a yellow?
If any outfield player did that he'd see instant red. And if he did it in the box it'd be a pen 100 times out of 100, regardless of anything else like an "offside". If the Prem had any balls they'd review that and ban Pickford for 3 games. Like that's gonna happen .....
Shocking stuff, so much so I feel the need to come here as a Chelsea fan and express that. I thought I'd seen it all with some VAR calls but today takes the cake. If that Mane decision is what to expect going forward, just cancel the sport ffs.
Yes I think it could plausibly be a yellow. Because it was very awkward and resulted in a bad injury doesn't mean it's an automatic red. I don't know how, you can't give a pen for a reckless tackle against a player who is flagged offside. But I agree about outfield player vs keeper doing this exact same thing, the reckless challenge... mostly since there's no reason for an outfield player to be making themselves bigger like that in a way that could be technically/plausibly seen as trying to stop the ball from getting past him.
I just took another look... I personally think it's less a red than the studs up bullshit Richarlison did, but it's a really bad challenge. So maybe I was overly minimizing it; anyone, even a keeper, doing that and staying on the pitch is pretty lucky.
Let’s see: Off the ground Two footed Scissor tackle High speed Out of control Any one of those is potentially red, never mind all of them together!!!!!!!!!
VAR is the greatest scientific leap forward this world has seen so far. Its Star Trek-like scanners, recorders and cameras can easily see the flagella and mitochondria in the thumb of Mané so distinctly, leaving us with no doubt of his transgression. But can’t see a serious assault causing on GBH.
I’m probably not at the level of VVD - probably, though the jury is still out - but I did my ACL a few years ago. Definitely worse than VVD’s as it immediately swelled up and I couldn’t really walk. But, and here’s the thing, while I definitely didn’t receive the level of care that VVD has, the MRI technicians, doctors and surgeon all said the same thing. It takes a minimum of 48 hours and often up to 6 weeks (due to swelling and fluid retention around the injury site) to see the nature of the damage. Any reports of VVD being out for the season, 8 months, 6 weeks or whatever are nothing more than speculation at the moment. Perhaps informed speculation, but speculation nonetheless. As he walked off under his own steam, my guess is that swelling and occlusion will not be a a major problem and we’ll have a statement Monday or Tuesday.
why? you think he deserves an attaboy coz he's suddenly realized that his relentless pro-VAR "I know more than you lot" posting is starting to piss off even more people?
I don't mind him defending VAR, it just feels like he's being a contrarian for the sake of being the contrarian. Not that I want everyone to agree with everyone else and this turn into one big echo chamber. Just feels off.
Pickford could be punished by the Football Association, according to the Daily Mirror, dependent on refere Michael Oliver's report of the match. The FA have the power to take retrospective action on incidents missing by the official on the pitch. The Mirror say Oliver did not have a clear view of the challenge and if that is corroborated in the ref's report, Pickford could face a ban for serious foul play. If Oliver and Coote admit they missed the incident then the FA could take action. https://www.express.co.uk/sport/foo...rdan-Pickford-FA-ban-Liverpool-Premier-League
