I actually like Jose a lot now but I can't support Spurs winning league, obviously, but man, I do not dislike him at all anymore. Jose is a winner.
lol when he returned to Chelsea, won title, very next season, after losing couple games...."I can't do anything with the players they give me" team turned on him so fast
He was always a great finisher, but now he’s playing through balls like he is Totti. If they keep this up they will be legit contenders. The player that surprised me the most is Calvert-Lewin, he has turned into a superstar all of a sudden. Him and Haaland are bringing the classic striker mould back in fashion.
The same West Ham fans calling him finished a couple of weeks ago will now be raving about him. Funny how that works.
Sounds like Van Dijk’s season is likely done. Tore his ACL. Even just for his safety, Everton should sell Pickford as soon as they can.
With Project Big Picture dead, there’s apparently now new talk of going the European Premier League route. United and Liverpool, once again leading the charge This I feel like is an inevitability.
This time it’s supposedly being backed by FIFA, who hate UEFA. Real Madrid, Juve and PSG are also in support of it. Throw in the top 5 - 6 teams in England as well, and you have half a league right there. Rest will be lining up.
A pan European league that has an American setup like east vs west with play offs. Then having a promotion into the league via league champions and sending last place teams back to their domestic league. Would probably bring in big money.
I’d be surprised if there was relegation. I’m assuming it would be exactly like American sports, where it’s a closed system that is controlled completely by the owners. That way owners can invest as little as they want into their teams without having any negative consequences. If there was relegation then they would have to spend money.
In my opinion United and Liverpool are doing this, especially the former, because they fear getting irrelevant at some point now or in the future, as they both were until recently, and United still are. It's their way of ensuring that no matter how poorly they invest their money, they'll be able to make a killing from EU competitions and put 8-9 figures into their pockets every season. It'd be to the expense of everyone outside of this system as CL revenue would drop drastically, even if CL remains as a competition after this.
Let the oligarchy at it. The fans will switch off after a few years and it will die on its ass. They can reenter at the bottom of the league pyramid. The big european cup nights are special because they're hard to come by. Playing them every week it will dull very quickly from a fans perspective but these corporate goons only see cash signs. They dont understand football. Fcuk them.
At this point, that’s where I’m at. Even though the quality will drop, and teams like Roma and Valencia would probably be at serious risk with the loss of funds, you’d still likely end up with the normal leagues being much more exciting. 4 or 5 team title races in some cases.
Shaktar-Madrid had me clenching hard lol. Bet pre-match at shaktar +1200 and went in big (for my account) at 3-0 and -475.
Agreed. It feels like killing the golden goose. Each country's FA's would have to be paid off to allow it. Someone's gonna be the whipping boy of that league, and who will Juve and Bayern scoop all their talent up from without the clubs they bully? Only England comes close to revenue sharing. The other super clubs get ridiculous portions of their league's TV deal. How much more money is there to be made?
Got stuck watching the Champions League equivalent of NFL Red Zone, because who has the CBS streaming service? It wasn't terrible.
I'll be honest. I paid for CBS' streaming just for reliable streams for when I'm betting. For example, I was able to stream Atalanta-Midjtiylland reliably and not in total potato quality when normally all good streams would be focused on bayern, city, liverpool, etc. It's also much easier if I want to stay in my wfh office on my work laptop (hooked up to two extra monitors). I don't have to deal with shitty streaming sites crushing my work laptop's resources or sites getting blocked for copyright infringement by whatever lists IT uses on our vpn network. Lastly, my gf will stream Big Brother or some other crap while working sometimes. However, their site navigation sucks and the studio show/analysis is whatever. Also, you should really be able to do picture in picture/multi-screen at this point, especially for concurrent games. ESPN+ manages it.
Unfortunately I think this would be a money making guarantee. Football “purists” (or anyone that cares about the spirit of the game really) would be turned off like you say, but the money they’d make off of casuals and international fans that care more about big names would far outweigh their losses. It would bring football closer to the American sports (in a negative way) but I have no doubt it would be a massive commercial success.
