What an earth was Maguire thinking!

If and when we lose this, the worst thing is Southgate won’t admit it’s due to the system and simply due to the sending off so he won’t abandon this system anytime soon.

 

That wasn't a penalty in a million years, seriously it's the worst decision I've ever seen.

 

We look better playing with a back 4 with 10 men than we do playing a back 5 with 11

Well the fact Maguire dropped a 1/10 performance shouldn't distract away from the fact the way we set up encourages us to make mistakes and ultimately Maguire looked extremely uncomfortable all game so hopefully this will not just be put as an individual mistake and on the system.

I doubt it though. I don't understand Southgate's ideological fixation on this set up. We do not look better in any aspect of the game. If you're system requires multiple players playing out of position it is not a good system.

It's also clear Maguire shouldn't be part of the squad right now. I'm not sure when or if he will recover but its clear his head is not in the right place right now and its not doing him any favours to keep him in the spotlight piling more negativity on him. Some people thrive off adversity, or can at least separate their private life from their professional one - Maguire clearly is not one of those people.

Yeah thought the same better with 4 at the back instantly, also can’t be a coincidence that we’ve given away 3 penalties in the last 4 games playing this system.
